Theme # 29: Music Words: 480 Title: Music Room
Delicate fingers flew over the tightly strung strings, coaxing out a haunting melody that sent chills down Link’s spine. He stood in the shadows, transfixed as he watched the young woman sitting alone in the music room, her back to him.
He had come back to the music room after school, having forgotten his ocarina. All he hand intended was to grab the case and his music folder and hurry out to catch a ride with his friends, but he had stopped cold when the beautiful harp music had drifted through the door to meet his ears. Now he stood in a daze, unwilling to disturb the girl who was creating such a mystical sound.
But she seemed to have sensed his presence, blinking as she glanced over her shoulder, fingers stilling on the harp strings.
“Oh, I didn’t know anyone was here,” she said hastily, a blush spreading across her pale cheeks, setting the harp upright as she stood, nervously smoothing her gold hair back from her face. “It’s Link, isn’t it?”
“Yeah. And you’re Zelda, aren’t you?” Now that he was looking straight at her, he recognized her immediately. Though usually soft spoken and polite, Zelda was not the kind of girl someone could easily forget.
She nodded slightly, still seeming flustered. “Is. . . is there something you needed?”
He blinked, confused for a moment, then remembered his mission. “Oh- right. Yeah, I just came to get my ocarina and music folder.”
Zelda seemed to perk up, her shyness forgotten. “You play?”
Clutching his ocarina case he grinned, rubbing his head sheepishly. “Yeah. Not as good as you though. What was that you were playing? It was incredible.”
“Oh- it was um, something I’ve written,” she admitted, gesturing to the music stand where a sheet of paper rested, a pencil nearby in case she needed to make adjustments to the notes. “I’m trying to get it right for the recital next month.” Zelda paused again before continuing, her sky colored eyes lifting to meet his. “I’ve actually written an accompaniment piece for the ocarina to go with it. . .”
His eyes lit up and he came forward, taking the piece of music she held out for him to examine. “This doesn’t look too complicated,” Link told her, his eyes scanning the notes. “I think I could do this. Would you mind if I tried?”
The smile she flashed him was enough to make his heart skip a beat. “Not at all. Let’s play it together.”
Heart still doing odd little jerks in his chest, Link sat down beside her, watching as she pulled the harp towards her, placing her fingers lightly on the strings.
“Ready?” she inquired, glancing at him.
Nodding he held up the ocarina. “Hey, Zelda?”
“Hmm?”
“What’s the title of this song?”
She smiled slightly. “I’ve been calling it the Song of Time.”

For You, My Zelda SirJoshizzle
So I've been writing a song, just for my girlfriend Zelda.
She's been bugging me for quite a while, "Write me a song, Link!" So trying to be the best boyfriend I could, I wrote. It took me, oh I don't know... three days. At least.
See, I've been playing piano for about twelve years, since I was five. Plus, I write a little bit of poetry... But I'm horrible at writing my own melodic compositions. But Zelda's my girlfriend, and anything for her, right?
I sat her down next to me while I was on the piano bench.
“This is for you, my Zelda.” I smiled charmingly at her. She beamed widely and giggled softly in reply.
I turned my attention to my terribly messy hand-written sheet music in front of me and began playing on the piano and sing the lyrics I wrote.
My love You’re all I want in this world
I was about to sing the next line... but then her cell phone rang--and she just had answered it. “Hello? …Hey, Malon! What’s up?’
…Why can’t you put this call on hold? I sang, a noticable amount of irritation in my voice. I raised an eyebrow at her, trying to signal to her to please ask Malon if she could call back. But she didn't even seem to notice that I changed the lyrics on her. She just started laughing into the mouthpiece and continued to talk to Malon.
“…He did what!? You’re kidding!”
I shook my head slowly and looked back to the keyboard and went on playing, going on with the song and the original lyrics.
My one true love You’re the only one in my life You make all of the wrongs right
But she just kept talking to Malon, completely oblivious that I’m even playing still, even after I raised the volume of my voice and pressed harder on the keys. “…I know, right!? Ilia’s such a whore! I heard she’s been sleeping with…”
And I… I wonder why you have to pick up your phone Every time it rings
I sighed softly and looked up from the keyboard and watched her talk on from the corner of my eyes. I changed the lyrics again, just to see if she noticed.
Ohh, and you know… That you can set vibrate on
But she didn’t even look at me.
“…And then she’s like, 'I only slept with him because he has money!' Who does that!? Only Ilia! Hahaha…”
So I just decided to end the song with the last few lines, since it doesn't look like she's going to start paying attention to me anytime soon.
But no matter what, you’ll be Forever, my true love
I gradually played softer and finally slowly end the song. I exhaled noisily and put away the sheet music I made in a manila folder, tucking it into the magazine rack next to me filled with sheet music and songbooks I got from the internet.
“Okay, okay, got to go, Malon… Yeah, yeah, yeah bye.” She slid her phone closed and put it in her pocket and she turned to me.
“Okay, you can start now.” She smiled sweetly, as if she didn’t even notice that I was even playing.
I just stared at her, frustration written blatantly all over my face.
That was the first and the last time I ever wrote a song for her... But oh well. Anything for my Zelda.

Title: Observations on Music Theme: Music Wordcount: 266 Genre: General/Humour Setting: AU HeadCanon Rating: PG
Link was very partial to music, and this was for many reasons. One of them was that music was a form of communication, but unlike written or spoken language, which conveyed thoughts, music conveyed emotions. To him, music was a far more pure means of communication, because while you could lie while writing and talking, you couldn't lie about emotions in a song. And that was another thing that Link liked about music, the universality of it. If you listened to a song about heartbreak, though you didn't understand a word of the language, you would still know you were listening to a song about heartbreak, because the emotions would come through loud and clear. Another reason he liked music was that he enjoyed watching how people reacted to it. And a prime example was sitting across from him in his kitchen, working on her homework. The radio was on, filling the comfortable space with music, and Zelda was reacting to the music on an almost subconscious level. For some songs she would tap the beat out with her fingers or pencil, while for others she would actually write in time to the song. Sometimes, if a song was particularly lively, she would tap her foot or half-dance along in her seat. But for songs she knew the words to, she would either hum or sing along with them. And as luck would have it, a familiar guitar sting sounded, and cracking a grin, Zelda began to sing along. "It's all good, it's all right, eve-ry-body gets laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaid... tonight!" Yes, Link was very fond of music.
