This one was more entertainment than actual seriousness, so excuse the weirdness.

Alphabet (277 words)
Adventurous. A woman could live her whole life without finding the perfect man.
Brave. But, thankfully, she was not part of the unlucky few.
Curious. Crazy, she thought. It was crazy how she wanted him.
Dedicated. Desire and affection melted together and made her ache for him.
Educated. Even when she thought her mind busy, it echoed with the sound of his laugh.
Friendly. For years, she’d thought it was a hopeless venture.
Good. Gods knew how long she’d hidden it to little avail.
Handsome. How often she’d come close to admitting it.
Inventive. It was a secret to no one how much she loved him.
Jovial. Just as she’d resolved never to speak the truth, she saw him.
Kind. Kissing him had been pleasant, but no nearly as pleasant as being kissed back
Light-hearted. Link surely had to know what he did to her.
Musical. Maybe he’d been playing with her all along.
Natural. Naively, she’d assumed her feelings were not reciprocated.
Optimistic. Or maybe he’d simply been unaware.
Patient. Perhaps, yes, that made more sense.
Quick. Questions had been swift in coming.
Reliable. Rounding up his answers in one sentence, he’d declared his affections.
Strong. Surely you can imagine what followed.
Thoughtful. To this day, the maids dare not speak of it without blushing.
Unique. Unless it is, of course, to praise the hero’s bare features.
Valiant. Very soon, the whole kingdom was celebrating their engagement.
Wilful. With bright smiles, they’d taken their vows.
Xenophile. Xs had been drawn in lieu of kisses ¯there were too many to count.
Yearning. You can see how such a story can be easily summarized:
Zealous. Zelda loved Link.

Zelink Theme #18: Letters
Title: An Unsent Letter
Words: 205

Dear Link,

It’s been four years since I last saw you...four years since I gave you the Ocarina of Time.

Many thing have changed since then. My father is dead. Ganondorf has only just started his reign of terror. Impa and I have hidden ourselves in Kakariko Village.

Impa has been teaching me the ways of the Sheikah. She believes it will be important in the future. Let’s just say that I’ve gained more respect for my attendant’s race.

If you could see me now, you wouldn’t recognize me anymore. I’ve taken to disguising myself as a boy for my own protection. My once fair skin now has a slight tan.

I feel that things are only the beginning. You’ve been sealed in the Sacred Realm for four years now. Only the goddesses know what will happen in the future.

Sincerely,

Zelda

Zelda set down her quill and looked over what she had wrote. She wasn’t actually going to sent Link her letter--she doubted that the Sacred Realm had mail--but she had felt the urge to write something to Link.

Strangely, or so it seemed to Zelda, she felt better after writing her letter. She folded it twice and put it in her trousers’ pocket.

Title: Letters of the Heart
Words: 505

She kept hers in a secret compartment in her vanity table. His were tucked safely in his waterproof saddle bags. Each sheaf of parchment had been unfolded and refolded so many times that they had become worn and tattered, though the words scrawled across the pages remained. Her handwriting was elegant cursive, his print and slightly messy. At least once a week they exchanged these bits and pieces of themselves across the vast distances that separated them, a way to keep their hearts connected.

I was so relieved to know that the postal service was able to locate you, even outside of the Kingdom! At first I feared that I might not be able to hear from you for so long, but when I received your letter I nearly cried out of happiness!. . .I’m glad you are enjoying your travels. . . hearing about that waterfall took my breath away! I wish I could have been there with you to see it. . .

You would have loved it, I know you would! I’ll take you there someday, or maybe someplace even better!. . . There’s so much out there in the world, Zelda, so many places to go and so many things to see. . . Yet even though I’ve seen so much, nothing can compare to Hyrule. It will always be my home.

. . .glad to hear that you are enjoying yourself. . . the festival of the Goddesses is taking place next week. . . I decided I wanted to take part somehow instead of just sitting there being entertained. . .wish you could be here for it. . .

. . .never realized how lonely my life was without you until I left. . . do you ever feel that sometimes the loneliness will overwhelm you. . . feel that you don’t belong? The only time I ever do is when I’m with you. Is that weird?

. . . not strange at all . . . so much we went through together. . . so much others can’t understand. There are things I can only tell to you and no one else. I trust you with so much, knowing that you won’t judge me or ridicule me for what I say. . . promise me you’ll be safe? I worry about you when you are so far away. . .

. . .there are things I can only tell you as well. . . old friends are so removed from the world were we did battle against Ganondorf. To them it’s only a bad dream, or so unreal they can’t really comprehend anything. . . promise you if you promise me. You can be so self-sacrificing if it’s for the good of Hyrule. Don’t deny it, you know it’s true! . . .Zelda, this may not be the best way to tell you this, but I care for you. So very much. More than anything . . .

. . . As do I, Link. As do I.

Theme #18: Letters
Word Count: 229

Dear Link,
How have you travels been lately?—

Zelda tore up the piece of paper after she had written those words down. Her hands met her forehead and a heavy sigh passed her lips. She sat at a desk in her grand bedroom with crumpled pieces of paper surrounding her. Zelda had written Link countless times while he was journeying, but this letter she would write was different—she was to tell him the murmurings of her heart…

Zelda lifted her head, a new determination crossing her mind, lifted the quill pen, and dumped it in the ink well. This letter had to have the right words… the right beginning…

Dear Link,
Things have been busy here at the castle lately—

Zelda stared at the paper for a moment, and then crushed it in between her hands. A thud echoed throughout the room as her head hit the desk as she fell forward. Silence, and then another sigh. These were words that she desperately wanted to say, and the more time that Zelda held them in, the more her spirit became stretched. Once again she sat upright and dipped the quill pen in the ink well. Then as she closed her eyes, her heart began to say,

Dear Link,
The longer you are away, the more I realize that I miss you. I no longer can suppress this feeling…

Title: Learning Letters

”I can’t believe you don’t know your letters, Link,” Zelda chided gently as she pulled a book from the shelves.

The Hero of Time flushed. “I do know my letters! I can read! How else do you think I found everything in all the Temples? I had to read the maps!”

Zelda sighed as she sprawled on the nearby comfy lounge. “Link dear, those don’t count. Maps have pictures too.”

Link felt his blush deepening. “I still had to read them,” he said grumpily, folding his arms and looking away from the Princess.

She sighed, settling herself into the cushions. “Whatever you say Link,” she said dreamily, opening her book. However, his dark mood was throwing off her concentration, and she closed the book again after a few moments with a sigh. “Link, yes, you might be able to read, but you can’t read very well, and you can’t write at all; you have to admit that,” she said gently, moving over to place her hand on Link’s arm.

Link remained stubbornly looking away from her. “I can read just fine,” he said crossly.

After a few more moments of silence, Zelda sighed and used her hand to move his face so that he was looking at her. “I’m sorry Link. I know you didn’t have the opportunity to learn – I am just surprised because nearly everyone else around me can read and write,” she said sincerely before pausing. “If you want, I could teach you.”

Link’s reply was silence. Zelda sighed. “I’m not that bad a teacher, Link. It could be fun.”

He remained silent, and Zelda grew frustrated. “Come on Link!” she said, almost whining (after all, princesses never whined).

He sighed and turned around. “It’s not like I have a choice, is it?” he asked darkly, but his expression revealed that he wasn’t that mad at her.

She beamed. “Of course you don’t Link dear!” she said brightly, leading him over to a nearby table set up with quills, ink and a teaching book from when a scribe had been teaching his apprentice earlier. “Now sit.”

Link obliged, looking amused. “Why this sudden need for me to be able to read and write?” he asked.

Zelda hovered over him, also smiling. “Well, I refuse to be a princess that doesn’t receive letters from her hero on his long journeys just because he can’t write. So get going,” she ordered, a faint blush hovering on her cheeks before walking over to the bookshelf. “Copy that parchment onto the blank one.”

Link smiled, shaking his head at her. “Yes Princess,” he said as he pulled the practice parchment towards himself. He could read well enough, but had never written a word in his life. Frowning, he began to copy the strokes of the first letters, slightly appalled at how bad they looked in comparison with the ones he was copying. Sighing, he looked over at the reading Princess. “Should I learn poetry while I’m at it?”

She nodded, absently turning pages. “Sure, why not? It would be a nice touch, as it would make things more interesting.”

Link glared at the parchment and inwardly groaned. I just had to ask.
