Zelink Theme #7: Green, White or Yellow
Title: A Dress for the Ball
Words: 103

“Link, I can’t decide what dress I want to wear for the ball tonight.” Zelda pulled a green dress, a white dress, and a yellow dress from her closet and showed all three of them to Link. “This, this, or this?”

“Why are you asking me?” Link wanted to know. “Why not Impa?”

“Impa’s busy,” Zelda answered simply. “Besides, you seem to know what looks best on me.”

Link smiled slightly at her compliment. He looked at the dresses, then at Zelda, then back at the dresses. Link smiled again as he came to his decision.

“White.”

Zelda beamed. “White it is, then!”

Link glanced up from the book he was reading as he heard his wife’s frantic voice enter the library. “Link!”

Sighing, Link put his book to the side. “Zelda, what is it?”

His beautiful wife then came into view. “I can’t decide what dress colour Maia should wear for her first public appearance! She looks good in everything!” she wailed, sounding distressed.

Link chuckled. Normally his Zelda wasn’t one to obsess over tiny details like this, but since the birth of their daughter she nearly always found something small to worry about, particularly when it concerned little Maia. “Well, Zelda, have you narrowed your choices down at all?” he asked, allowing some of his amusement at her distress to leak through his words.

She frowned, looking unimpressed with his amusement at her predicament. “Link, don’t laugh! This is serious! Everyone is going to see her today, and she has to look nice! I do not want my daughter looking anything less than perfect today!” she said, narrowing her lovely blue eyes.

Link sighed. “Zelda, firstly, I am sure Maia will look wonderful in anything, as she has inherited her mother’s beauty. Secondly, why are you asking me for fashion advice, particularly for a young girl?”

Zelda seemed slightly mollified at his first statement. “Because she is your daughter as well, Link. You need to have some input. Now, come with me,” she said, giving her husband little choice as she physically dragged him to the nursery, ignoring his weak protests.

Link sighed again as Zelda hurried into the closet to find the dresses. He then smiled as he caught sight of his daughter. He moved over to Maia’s crib, and looked down at the little girl. Her wide blue eyes stared back up at him as he gently moved one of the locks of golden hair out of Maia’s face. He then picked her up, gently holding her in his arms. Maia glanced up at him once, and then closed her eyes and went to sleep.

As he watched his daughter, he became aware that Zelda had entered the room again and was talking to him. “Well, I’ve narrowed the choices down to green, white, and this adorable yellow one. The other colours looked nice, but I didn’t like the dresses......and now I can’t decide between these three,” she said in an almost despairing tone of voice.

Link took his eyes off his daughter for a few moments. “Well, I think it should be green” he said, turning around to face his wife.

Zelda paused. “Why green?” she asked, placing the green, white, and yellow dresses neatly on top of the others on the bed.

“Green represents new life – the colour of plants, and the forest. It seems fitting for our new daughter to wear green as the public celebrates the beginning of her life.... and as we celebrate our love for each other, which, though far from new, still remains green like the older and more beautiful trees in the forests,” he said, smiling at Zelda.

“That’s so sweet, Link,” she said before grinning. “And the fact that green is also your favourite colour has nothing to do with it, right?”

Link chuckled. “Well, that too. But mostly for the first reasons. Green is more symbolic than the other colours, even though white is traditional for little girls. Besides, we’ve broken enough traditions as it is – what’s a few more?”

Zelda smiled. “True. But why eliminate yellow and white? Do you think they will clash with her hair or something?” she asked worriedly.

Link just looked amused at her tone of voice. “Well, she doesn’t need to be wearing white or gold because she already has that in her skin and hair,” he said, moving over to his wife to nuzzle the blonde hair over her neck.

She swatted him away, being careful not to jostle Maia. “She gets her colour from you too you know,” she said as she took Maia from him and returned their sleeping daughter to her bed.

“I suppose, but she definitely gets her beauty from you Zel,” he said with a grin.

She sighed as she blushed slightly, tucking her hair over her ear. “So you keep telling me Link. So, are we decided on the green dress then?”

Link nodded. “Yes. So with the green dress, she will be green, white and yellow.”

Zelda raised an eyebrow. “Green, white and yellow? Are you saying our daughter is some sort of oddly-coloured person?” she asked, laughing as Link wrapped his arms around her and spun her around.

Link smiled at his beloved wife. “Well, as her mother is the most beautiful person in the country, it’s only natural that her looks would be different to everyone else,” he said with a grin as Zelda swatted him again.

“I’ll take that as a compliment, you rogue.”

(I'd just like to point out that I did not copy this idea from Angel Zelda. I wrote my drabble before I read hers)

The steady tap tap tap of a pencil against paper was something that most people would find annoying, but Link liked to consider himself a fairly unflappable individual. However, when the tap tap tap evolved into a whump whump whump, he felt it was time to intervene.
"Anything the matter, Zelda?"
"Oh no, everything is fine," came back her sarcastic reply, "I just have no clue as to what I'm supposed to draw."
"Art project?"
"Yes, and the theme is Green, White or Yellow."
"So why don't you draw some flowers, then?"
"Because everybody is going to want to draw flowers, because that's easy. I'd like to have a little originality in my work..."
"Well, what else can you think of that's green, white or yellow?"
"Plenty of things, but they're all rooted in pop culture, and I'd like to reiterate that I'd like to be original. And this is all your fault!"
"My fault?"
"Yes! You with your fascination of pop culture, filling me in on all these little nuances. You're a very ba-" Zelda stopped, looking like she just had an epiphany.
"Bad influence?" Link supplied.
"You!"
"Yes?"
"You're fond of green, I'll draw you!"
"You flatter me,"
"Naked."
"What?!"
"I'm going to draw you naked," Zelda repeated, as if explaining something to a particularly dense child, "With green pencil, because then it will be both artistic and green!"
"I'm not posing naked!"
"But I'd like to use white and yellow as well..."
"Zelda, listen to me, not naked!"
"Ah, your brothers!"
"My what?!"
"I can use yellow for Charon, and white for D,"
"I'm not posing naked with my brothers!"
"Hm, but you can't really draw in white..."
"I'm not doing this!"
"Unless I use black paper? Yes, that's it! A tryptic! I'll draw you and Charon on white paper, then D on black (thus enabling me to use white), which will leave me with something original, artistic, as well as using all the colours in the theme!"
"Zelda," Link said, grabbing his friend by the shoulders, "I am not posing naked with my brothers for you!"
"Why not? I need you to for my project! Besides, I wouldn't draw your naughty bits, if that's what you're worried about...?"
"No, I'm worried about what your teacher will say when he sees you're drawing your friends naked!"
"Oh Link, my art teacher has probably drawn hundreds of naked models in his time," she said flippantly, "But if you're so dead set against this, then I'll go find D. Being your twin and all, I can easily get him to pose like you,"
And while Link digested that brain-breaking image (because D would pose like him, if asked, the bastard), Zelda got up to go find his twin.

Title: Colors of Her Hero

Zelda tended to think of her beloved hero in terms of colors.

Green. It’s the color of the beautiful lush forest, the wide fields of Hyrule, emerald like the sparkling glow of the Great Goddess Farore. The color that symbolizes courage and life itself- a force he wields and what he has sworn always to defend. Green is innocence and courage, both reflected in his bright eyes.

Yellow. She thinks of the warmth of the sun on her face, summer days of childhood long past. It is bright desert sands where he once roamed, and golden hay that he gives to his beloved horse. Yellow is home, yellow is comfort, yellow is kindness. It is the golden color of his selfless, loving heart.

White. The color of the soft billowing clouds in the heavens, the radiance of pure light, and of the first snow fall. It is pure, brilliant, unwavering and untainted, just like the brightness of his noble soul. White is what she feels when he looks at her; white is the color of his love.
