I'm on a roll!

Smile (275 words)
“What are you thinking about?”
The question was innocent enough. Link figured he would be safe enough to admit it.
“I’m thinking about you.” There. Safe, polite, flattering and as honest as it would get.
“Me? Just me?” Oops. “Me doing something?”
Damn. He’d have to be forthcoming with details
“Well, you’re smiling.”
“I’m smiling now. Why imagine it when you have me right here?”
“Because I like thinking about your smile as much as I like looking at it.”
She giggled with pleasure, before inquiring, “So, why am I smiling?”
“I’m sorry?”
“In your daydream. Why am I smiling?”
Could he tell her? Could he say it, just like that, with nothing leading up to it? Wasn’t that a little sudden?
“Link? Hello?”
“You’re smiling because you’re happy.”
She laughed. “Well, of course I’m happy. But why am I happy?”
He teased. “Isn’t it enough to be happy just because you want to?”
“Link,” she warned, “don’t avoid the subject. There must be a reason you imagine me smiling and happy.”
“Well, I suppose there is.” He shot her a gentle smile. “But I’m afraid if I tell you, my daydream won’t come true.” He could feel that fear knotting his stomach up.
Softly, she leaned forward and suggested, “Try me.”
He smiled and took her hand. Her eyes widened a wee bit, if only because of his shaking fingers. He drew a shuddering breath.
“Well, Zelda, when I think of you smiling and happy, it’s because you only just accepted my marriage proposal.”
She was silent as she deciphered his anxiety, but then said, brightly, “Oh, I have every reason to smile now!”

Zelink Theme #2: Daydreaming
Title: A Girl’s Fantasy
Words: 129

The sun was shining brightly in the afternoon sky. Zelda was standing in Hyrule Field, a gentle breeze blowing around her small frame.

“It’s so peaceful,” Zelda murmured. “So pretty...”

“Not as pretty as you,” the young Princess heard a boy’s voice tell her.

Zelda turned around quickly, and came face to face with a pair of blue eyes.

“Link!” Zelda’s face flushed.

Link simply smiled and took her hand. Zelda blushed harder.

He was coming closer to her. Any closer, and he’d be--

“Zelda! Anyone home?”

Link’s voice snapped Zelda out of her daydream. She was back in the castle courtyard, and Link was looking at her in confusion.

“Are you okay?” he asked. “You kinda zoned out for a minute.”

Zelda blushed furiously. “Yes...I’m fine, Link.”

Theme 2: Daydreaming
Words: 325
Title: In Her Mind

Locked in a tower, there was little to occupy the Princess’s time. Her captors were not interested in entertaining the royal that they were ordered to guard, and so she was left to keep herself from going insane.

For a time she had worked on a little bit of embroidery on a tapestry that she eventually hung on the wall when it was finished. Though lovely to look at, more importantly it helped a little with the chill that seemed to have permanently settled over the castle.

She also spent time reading the few texts that she had been allowed to have. They were large, musty old tomes that she had poured over often in her youth, legends and fairy tales from all over the realm. But being a fast reader, there was only so many times that she could continue to relive the same tales over and over again and soon the books were left piled on her small wooden table.

But what Zelda used to most occupy her mind and time were her thoughts and idle imaginings. For with her own thoughts she was free, free to fly away from the cold tower and wander in the bright sunshine once more. In her daydreams she rode on a horse across Hyrule Field, her long blond locks unbound, tangling in the wind. She would laugh and play games, speak to whomever she wanted, eat what she pleased, and go wherever her heart desired.

Most of her fantasies, however, all included the same young man at her side. Link’s blue eyes would always sparkle when she looked at him, his smile warming her even despite the chill that often settled into her body. Whether she imagined that they were swimming in Lake Hylia, watching a play, or simply sitting side by side on the banks of the fishing pond, they were together. She prayed that when peace returned to Hyrule that it would be so.
