Wii version, where Link is a righty: Nov. 19th.

GCN version, where Link is a lefty: Dec. 2nd.

Here are my thoughts (copied from my blog):

QUOTE

Dear Nintendo,

I must commend you. For a moment, I thought that you didn't care for finances over great games, that you were patient, that you knew what to expect of your loyal fans and worked hard at meeting those expectations, while showing true respect and affection for them.

Thank goodness, you proved me wrong today, didn't you?

I swear, Nintendo, you make being one of your fans a true, harsh, difficult challenge.

It seems to me like I have waited forever for a decent try at both versions of Twilight Princess (let's face it: that's what gaming is all about--the Legend of Zelda). I had it all planned out. I had my whole furniture rearranged, monthly supplies of food ensured, the works.

The plan was lovingly conceived, too. I was to try the GCN version first. It was to be my closure on what had been, to me, a wonderful gaming platform, one I had loved, one which killed many hours of my life through sheer enjoyment.

I was then going to purchase a Wii, and with it the other version of Twilight Princess. Now, this may seem like an unneeded statement, really, since the Wii is so very inexpensive (with at least two hundred dollars less than its concurrencing consoles) and I was unlikely to resist the temptation of trying out the Wii version of TP. My curiosity would have been understated otherwise.

I thought I would be free to do this. Free to enjoy what was sure to be a true work of art. Free to go through this delicately thought-out plan of mine, which I have been caringly cradling since December 2005.

But no, Nintendo. It just couldn't be that way. You just had to make the mistake all the other big gaming companies made long before you: you assumed what gamers wanted.

Hardly satisfied with launching both versions on the same day, you chose to launch only the Wii version on November 19th. Three weeks later, when all the plot details were unveiled, you would half-heartedly release the GCN version, even though TP was intended from the start for the GCN. Congratulations. You assumed that gamers would OBVIOUSLY want the remixed title over the original, intended one, and that they would willingly dish out roughly 250.00$ plus 50.00$ to get it, else they should get all the spoilers. Not to mention that this remix has Link being a righty instead of a lefty (OUTRAGEOUS!).

Now, I'm not saying that assuming what gamers want is usually a bad thing. You've always had a special knack for rewarding your faithful gamers. Gamers who, under most any circumstances, are so addicted to you that they are helpless to do what they should have from the start: run away as fast as they could. You always knew how to treat them with delicious snacks. A fighter here, an FPS there, everything was just dandy.

But there are times, Nintendo, where you have to use your head for things other than being a little garden of joy. There are times when you have to understand that all your treats have made your fans rabid for more.

And rabid fans are not a pretty sight, nor are they a force to underestimate.

That's why I'm writing to you today, Nintendo. I'm writing to thank you, oh great gaming tycoon, for ruining my beloved plan. Thank you, Nintendo, for making your fans bleed. Thank you, Nintendo, for suddenly showing us that, even to you, games are only as important as the money they rake in. It was an eye-opening experience, and I will make sure never to forget this day.

I hope you think about your fans a bit more from now on. Not, I realise, that you will (or should I say Wii-ll? It looks like you enjoy forcing your products on the consumers, also known as your titled biatches).

I would have bought both versions, Nintendo. BOTH.

Just thought you should know.

Love (still),
CM

P.S. What is with making Link a righty? He was a lefty, and it made me happy. It reflected me. But now he's a righty, and my leftiness is, rightly so, feeling left out. I hope you give us the option, at least, to make him a leftie if we so please.

P.P.S. Actually, I'm warning you: that game better be worth all this anguish.

Your thoughts?

Whoa, whoa, whoa, I think your overreacting a bit, CM...

I know it's hard for all the people who were planning on buying a GCN game first- I was even one of them- but you have to remember something: Nintendo is a company. They have to make good business decisions. They did not try to assume what gamers want, they simply made a smart business move. The GCN version of TP would have threatened Wii sales (not good!!), so they had to coax people into buying the Wii version by delaying the GCN version. That's all there is to it. It was probably a hard decision for them to make, considering that's not usually Nintendo's style.

But you know, I think I would have gone with the Wii version anyway. It's seriously the coolest thing! The controls allow for incredible interaction! It's better than the GCN version, in my opinion. Before you start telling me "don't fix what's not broken" just try to open your mind a bit. I used to be rather closed minded and uncertain about it, but now I think it looks really exciting!

As for the price, yeah, it is rather high. But have you even looked at all the stuff that comes with it? The Wii interface is just awesome, and when you get both of the controllers along with a Wii Sports game, I'd say $250 is pretty accurate. It's still much cheaper than it's competing systems.

As for the righty/lefty thing, do you even know why that is? They didn't just go crazy and randomly change it. It is directly connected to the new control system. People are going to be moving the controller in the same directions Link swings his sword. Since most people are right handed, it would be difficult for them to adjust to the lefty point of view. Nintendo made that change for those players' benefit. There may be an option for lefties like you, but I'm not sure. You could even still consider Link a lefty because he still is in the GCN version. Link will always truly be a lefty. smile.gif However, you could also just go ahead and call TP Link a righty, and have our beloved OoT Link (and TWW Link, I suppose) be the special lefty. Whatever you prefer.

You really should go learn more about the Wii and the Wii version of Zelda, because it's really not all that bad. It's a shame you're seeing it from such a negative viewpoint... sad.gif

I know. I'm in complete accord with everything you said. happy.gif

Really. I know the situation pretty well and everything. I check a dozen of gaming sites daily. I know all the specs and everything. I watch plenty of media, I download stuff, etc. I'm not alien to the gaming world at all. I'm more connected to it than you'd believe.

But I really wanted to play both versions, starting with the GCN one.

And they said they'd be released together. It's not like I wouldn't have bought the Wii anyway, y'know?

I seriously think the Wii's a great concept. I know it didn't come through in my post, but it's true. I really want to purchase one and everything. How else could I play more LoZ?

I HEREBY SWEAR I LOVE THE WII. Just not their way of marketing it.

As for Link's righty/lefty thing, I wish that they could at least give us lefties the opportunity to play Wii Link with our left hand! I hope they'll make it an accessible option. Seriously. I thought Link would get rid of all the handicapping we lefties had to endure. ;_;

Since it's just a mirroring thing, hopefully we'll get to choose what interface we want.

Here's to hopin'.

Urg blink.gif Maybe its just me, but I'm not overly fond of the Wii. The control system kinda bothers me, and now I'm really hacked that I have to wait until December to get the GCN version!!! ARRRGGGGGHHH!!! angry.gif I don't know why the Wii control system bothers me so much. It just does. Too complex, in my opinion. I like the GCN controler, very simple and easy to play with. *sigh* Maybe I'm just too particular.

If you're unsure, wait for one of your friends or relatives to get one and try it out there.

Then decide. ^^

I love making use of people. Great fun. giggle.gif

Nice prose. Unfortunately you lost me. Precisely because I am a gaming fan. Not a Nintendo or Sony fan.

But yes. When will they release it here? In Australia? 'Cause it's pissing the ((*&& out of me! They've only just got KH2 cases! NOT EVEN THE GAME! SEE THAT SUCKS!

Well, we can all safely assume that the release dates have already happened... considering that most of us have a copy of Twilight Princess in English as I'm typing this.

But speaking of release dates... *suddenly gets off subject*

Does anyone know if Nintendo announced a set release date for Phantom Hourglass?
