I didn't say that. I said that Link had more opportunities to visit her. That doesn't mean he automatically fell for her. That only means that Malon was his friend and he chose to go spend time with her. Out of all the girls in OoT, Malon is the only one you don't have to go to see. You are only obligated to help her one time. And after that, you can choose to forget her. But obviously, Link didn't. Because he has her horse in Majora's Mask. That suggests to me that Link was the one who went out of his way to befriend her again, not the other way around. So she may not have struck a chord with you. But she did with Link. Otherwise, I don't think he would've gone back to see her.

And I don't think Malon would just up and abandon her ranch when things were going so horribly. The ranch was her home and abandoning it, when she knew Ingo could very well beat the place into the ground doesn't seem in her character. Leaving when everything is okay? Yes. Leaving when everything is not? No.

As for TP, I didn't say I personally believed Link was a descendant of Malon. I am undecided at this point. I simply stated another fan suggested that Ilia could be a descendant of Malon. Could Link be their descendant? I think it's possible (But I don't necessarily believe he is). Link already knew Epona's Song and was already in possession of a horse named Epona. It's never explained how he came into these things.

And if Link was only helping Malon because he was going to get a reward, that makes him very shallow.

But I think this is really all I have to say about this. It's getting to the point where we're both just beating a dead horse. Neither one of us is going to change our mind so there's no point in continuing. Thanks for a great debate :3

Not necessarily. How do you know he didn't go back just because he wanted his horse? I doubt it was merely that as Malon IS his friend...just I think if we were meant to think more was the case, we would have seen a hint/reference or something, like the scene with Zelda in the beginning of MM. In MM, the only thing that mattered was that he had Epona, not the events leading up to him getting her.

Random theory: who says anyone taught Link Epona's song? maybe the grass actually makes that sound, like the hawk-grass, which even a monster can play.
It's possible Malon's mother may have liked the sound of the grass enough to compose a song based on it. Either way, it's a gameplay device, so it's not important. Same with him having Epona..his horse would likely have looked like her and been named the same where-ever he started out: it's a reference.

You missed my point for the second part: I think Link would help Malon reward or not, he's a hero and her friend. My point which I likely phrased badly was this: the game doesn't feel we need to be rewarded for saving Zelda, ( multiple incarnations )
maybe because she is the reward. Or her happiness is..it obviously matters to Link.

And as for TP, the creator said that it was not based off of previous games; it's like a game with a mixture of all of them intertwined into one. Well... except WW. Anyway that's it for me. Yup. Just need to point the long hookshot at the broken bridge and you're on the other side. I love Epona, though, so that's the only reason why I tend to visit the ranch during my gameplay.

Same here. When I first played the game, all I cared about the horse. So some red-headed girl was there to tend her, so what?

It was only once I found that gossip stone that I realized Malon might have a thing for Link...but it was still "oh well"...that put her on par with Ruto and Saria. The thought that Link might choose Malon over Zelda never even registered here.

I don't like the LinkxMalon pairing, but I don't have anything against Malon. I think Malon's a kind-hearted character who, like anyone else, is misunderstood.

Malon should not even exist in all Zelda history. Whenever I read a Malon story I quit imedditely (spelled it wrong). What makes Link attract girls? I mean the game is about Zelda. Thats why it is called that. Oh, yeah I made a poem for her.

In Twilight Princess you can name your horse thats a good thing. So you don't have to be forced with the name Eponsa over and over.

Is this really necessary? There are some of us here who like and happen to be fans of Malon. And really it's kind of spamming, you know?

*sigh* The ZeldaxLink pairing is my favourite (obvious), but I don't hate Malon. I think she's pretty cool, because for one, she's definately an animal lover. I can relate to her in that sense because I adore animals, and horses happen to be one of my favourites alongside cats.

There's really no valid reason to hate her. I mean so what if some Zelda fans prefer Link with her than Zelda? That's certainly no reason to hate her. Just enjoy what you enjoy and give that same courtesy to other people who enjoy something different without the senseless bashing. It just gets people riled up and really it's a waste of time.

And I'll get off my soapbox.
