I tend to think that it's a little of both. Ganondorf is kind of a bastard, after all, and we know he's not above taunting Link with pretty much anything he can think of. But I agree with the bit about him capturing Zelda for political reasons. In most of the games, it's either her or her dad running the country (her mother is dead, I assume, because I don't ever remember hearing mention of Zelda's mum being alive in any of the games...), so capturing the ruling monarch, or the heir to the throne (depending on the game) is formidable leverage. And if worst came to worst (in Zelda's case, at least) he could always force a marriage with Zelda, thus making him a legitimate ruler (and can just do away with Zelda later so he's the sole ruler). If I was a megalomaniacal male bent on world domination, I know that’s what I’d do

Well, I'll make a note to watch out for you then if I ever become a princess I agree with the political reason, but i think its a bit of the zelink reason too. Remember at the end of OoT (which I think is the first in the chronological order of the 'main' games) he curses them both etc? Well, maybe in future incarnations, he goes after Zelda both to overthrow Hyrule and to hurt link for beating him up all those years/incarnations ago. Its a sort of revenge thing against the person who stopped him (well, Zelda did play a big role in his capture, but I think we can all agree that Link did most of the work, thereby making Ganondorf want more revenge on him - afterall Zelda couldn't seal Ganon away without Link's help). So, Ganon knows Link likes Zelda (and we all know it too ) and so goes after her to get revenge on Link (and as a bonus, gets to overthrow Hyrule. Must be his lucky day )

I agree in that its both political and a Zelink thing. We know that by having control over Zelda, Gandondorf has control over the country, hence making his grasp on power more solid. Ew! If Ganon ever tries to marry Zelda, I hope Link stabs his eye out! *shudder* Poor Zellie, being forced to marry that evil green skinned freak! But being the evil freak that he is, Ganondorf would be keeping a close eye on both Link and Zelda, trying to find a weakness. Like, in OoT when Ganondorf takes Zelda, he says, "If you want to rescue Zelda, come to my castle!" He didn't say, "If you want to save the future of this land by rescuing its ruler, come to my castle!" Granted, the last one sounds corny, lol, but seriously, you get what I'm saying. Ganon always uses Zelda to lure Link in, and get him right where he wants him. He uses the bond between them for his own evil ends. Suspecting the connection between the Princess and the little boy in green, Ganny follows Link to the Temple of Time to find a way into the Sacred Realm, and he waits for seven years, knowing that eventually Zelda will reveal herself to Link. Ganny may be dumb, but he's not that stupid! He KNOWS Zelda and Link have a special relationship, and he does what he can to use it to his advantace. So, yes, perhaps Ganon does ship LxZ.
