Somehow that doesn't seem like something that would have stopped Nintendo.
 Maybe it's just that they wanted to appeal to male gamers first, before they realised that there were plenty of female fans too. |

I still go with my original thought on this, but Luna has also made good points. Zelda is always a central figure in the story, so deeply imersed, even from the begining. I just adore the girl

She whoops more ass than most Zelda bashers realize, for not only is she a princess with magic powers and pointy ears (which are always cool), but she has also been a pirate (Tetra) and a ninja (which is pretty much what Sheik is). No little sissy girl is going to hide in plain sight for seven frickin' years while the biggest bad of the generation is tearing up the countryside looking for her!
*smacks a Zelda basher in the face, just on principle* |

Okay enough of that, but yeah, Zelda whoops ass. Especially when the games that are named after her, don't even feature her! Majora's Mask, and Link's Awakening (it was awakening?) |

Yes. When you think about it, Zelda is the ultimate answer to the age-old Ninja vs Pirates debate. She was both (like Wesley from the Princess Bride--he was totally a ninja-pirate), therefore it is possible to ally the two parties.
