Hmmmm.....Well, since Luna of DOOOOOOM always says everything perfectly, little devil's advocate I'm happy to announce I have no more to add! Except, maybe, that if Zelda was so 'weak', WHY, exactly, would she be in every freakin' game? WHY, exactly, is the SERIES NAMED AFTER HER? Why not "The Legend of Link?" *When I first played OoT, I thought Zelda was Link's name until I met Zelda. I was SO confused. I still remember this xD This was when I was in 3rd grade, and I was at my friend's house, and I asked him "Is that guy Zelda?" and he's like "HECK NO! That's Link. Zelda is a princess." And I was like..."...What? Why is it called the Legend of Zelda then?"* So..........I suppose I'm just saying that if Zelda was as 'weak' as others so often state, WHY is she THE HEROINE OF THE SERIES? xD

| QUOTE (gr33n_sl33ves <3) | | I think the only way anyone will be satisfied as to Sheik's gender would be if Sheik went suddenly crazy, got completely naked, then ran around in the middle of a field somewhere screaming, "Look at my naughty bits! I am a (insert preferred gender here)!" |
Holy cow, gr33n. You just owned my soul, right there. I hope you don't mind me quoting you in my sig. And yes, Lute-chan, that's a very valid point about the whole "weakness" factor (*feels special after reading your comments* XD). I have to agree on that one, fo' sho'. In every Zelda game in which the princess herself is present, it is made very clear that all of Hyrule, including Link, would be helpless without her. She represents a guiding light, especially for Link, in the games, and that symbol has remained constant and strongly emphasized through the years. Zelda brings purpose to Link's mission, and mainly to his reason for continuing on in his adventures. She has always been reliant on him, of course, because he's our lovable hero and does a damn fine job with a sword, but she's never been one to neglect offering her hand in return. Every game has shown us that Zelda is always doing everything in her power to make sure Hyrule's comfy and safe from Ganon. But she's only a third of the equation--Link, Zelda, and Ganon are always associated, and you can't have one without the other two appearing in some way, shape, or form. And we know Zelda and Ganon don't mix well, being the most universal symbols of the games' opposing elements (light and darkness come to mind), so if we see Zelda shooting a get-this-god-damn-pig-off-my-back at Link every once in a while, I see no reason to blame her. Bottom line is, I think the games are named after Zelda because she is more integral to the plot than even Link himself. She is always involved with the story long before he is, and she's always the one fighting off the forces of evil long before Link happens to stumble upon her. When looking at it in that light, it's clear that Link is more of an independent character than Zelda is in terms of plot relevance, and being that he represents us as the players, he's actually more of an observer of the good and bad in Hyrule than a whole piece of either side. So Zelda, as the representation of "good" through Link's eyes, tends to get the spotlight, if that makes sense.
