Title: The other people Link is paired with
Description: what do you think of them?

Alantie - June 11, 2006 08:48 PM (GMT)
I'm actually kinda surprised no one has started a topic like this yet, but I'm wondering what everyone else's opinions are on the other people Link is paired up with in the Zelda Universe. I'm talking about the Malink, Ruto Link, Saria Link, Medly Link. . . and any others I might have forgotten. What do you think of them? Which ones drive you bonkers? Let's talk about it ^_^

Maiden - June 11, 2006 09:25 PM (GMT)
I just like Zelink

...and is this against Forum rules?

Paladin's Heart - June 11, 2006 09:43 PM (GMT)
Nope. it's not. We prefer ZeLink though, but talking about other couples is fine ^_^. (As long as it's nothing like 'OMFG ZELINK IS TEH SUXXORZ TEH TRU COUPLE IS -insert Link or Zelda pairing here- !!!! ROFFLECOPTER1'

To tell you the truth, I never liked any other pairings with Link because...well, I don't know. MaLink is just kind of a friend thing and I don't think Link wants to have half-hylian, half-zora children. (or a third gerudo children, or children that never grow up!).

When I was younger, I asked my brother's friend who Impa was, and he told me Link's wife! (and I actually believed him until I played OOT for myself)

EDIT: And I think this belongs in the Legend of Zelda section. ^_^

Alantie - June 11, 2006 09:43 PM (GMT)
 Erm. . .. not sure actually  Yikes! :( If it is, so sorry! It can be closed if it is. . .

Edit: Whew! Thanks for clearing that up Paladin! And I promise I'll be a nice girl! Yeah, I kinda thought it should be over in that section, but I wasn't sure where to put it . . .. please move if you need to!

But yes, I agree with what you have said, especially about Ruto. I dunno, it just seems a little odd. I don't know how that would work out for them. . . Impa, Link's wife?! Lol, oh man, that's funny! I was actually told Zelda was Link's wife before I played. . . Well, she's not yet *smirk*

Lutearina - June 19, 2006 04:36 AM (GMT)
They all seem rather stupid to me. :P

Meh, there should be enough ZeLink hints to shove down the MaLink and SaLink and RuLinker's throats. xD They all just make me laugh, as it should be obvious that teh "truu canon" is ZeLink. :P Fo sho'.

Linkthekeeperofcourage - June 22, 2006 01:54 AM (GMT)
I would have to say Saria with Link is the craziest. She will never grow up!

Dirty Harry - June 22, 2006 03:00 PM (GMT)
QUOTE (Linkthekeeperofcourage @ Jun 22 2006, 01:54 AM)
I would have to say Saria with Link is the craziest. She will never grow up!

Hmm. I have heard interesting theories; such as Saria leaves Forest to find Link, and becomes a Hylian. And then grows up. That was interesting, except...it was weird too. You just don't get that kind of good vibe with other pairings. I mean, sure, Malon might be a great looker, but in the end it comes down to what the heart of LoZ is.

LoZ is the typical quest, from little peasant to big hero, the star-crossed romance thingo. And that's what has the real canon quality and the real...goodness of Zelink, is that it's completely related to the kindo f game LoZ is. And seriously, we do get it everywhere.

Manga OoT: Zelda says she loves Link. Serious. She says it.
Majora's Mask: Zelda giving her long speech to Link about meeting him again, etc. A bit above friends?
Minish Cap: All the start parts.
Awakening: Where is anyone else besides Zelda (in the form of the other girl...)

I just decided to list those as a support to the Zelink and how wherever there's a Link part, there's always a Zelda part, and it's always a really important part.

Other pairings that should be noted were speicifcally the LxM pairing and the LxR. LxS sometimes, but its a bit weird (in my opinion. There are others who differ) Most of the time its a LxM that I've seen, and they can be really good.

One of the things that can be a bit disheartening about some pairings is that they have a tending to flame or bash other potential pairees. I put in this random paragraph to spread the love; don't bash another character. Unless it's King Zora; he's big and fat, there's enough cellulite to punch and he won't get hurt.

Malink is a definite possibility; there's a very friendly relationship between Malon and Link; always in OoT she's always laughing at him, and during the manga she DOES call him her knight in shining armour. Or hero, I forgot (personally, her hero looked EVIL). The only disproof of that is most likely the Minish Cap, where Link knows Zelda longer than Malon, and Malon is a complete stranger (ad Link does go on a whole quest to save her, though it's disputable as to whether he's saving her, or Hyrule).

RuLink? Nah...he was SCARED of her in OoT, and I don't know where she went after that.

SaLink? Hmm...much more friends stuff. I mean, there's a part in OoT where she says Saria will always be in your heart or something...but then again, a good friend is always in your heart? I do believe that there is love between Link and Saria, it's just the love between lovers. It's just a really deep friendship (for example, if Zelda said somethign really nasty and unbased about Saria, Link would almost immediately get angry.)

There's my long rant. Hope it was interesting.

Luna-Nayru - June 23, 2006 04:06 AM (GMT)
In my opinion, Zelda and Marin are the only ones who can be paired with Link and hailed as canon. But the other pairings are great for fanfics. :D But there is one pairing that people still insist was the true, canon pairing of OOT, regardless of the game's obvious Zelink tendencies. And that pairing is...

LINK/MALON

Ah, Malon. Little Miss Redhead who wanted a knight in shining armor, Zelda Universe.net's pick of the litter, the "Tifa Lockheart" of the Zelda series. Call her what you will. But there's one thing we can't avoid-- she will always be Malon. The farm girl. Who gives you the weird egg. And who you aren't required to see again for seven years. That Malon.

I'll put it out there--I did like her as a character. But it's perfectly clear that she is just as, if not less integral to the plot than Talon. They're a package deal in my mind. Right now, I don't think much of them because they're your typical, average NPCs. I think of them as fanservice to those who played Link's Awakening. They're like a funny addition so fans who played the old game will go, "Oh! Look! They're like Marin and Tarin!" and laugh it off. But the fact of the matter is that they do not hold the same roles that Marin and Tarin did in Link's Awakening. As much as Malink fanfiction authors might hate it, Malon is not the game's heroine, unlike Marin. Zelda takes that role by a landslide. I think they threw in the little alleged "Malink hints", like the gossip stone about the knight in shining armor, to develop Malon's similarities to Marin. But did we have to remember that Malon wanted a knight in order to complete some plot-related task? NO. Did we have to accept Talon's proposal of Link marrying Malon in order to defeat Ganondorf? NO. So why are we spazzing over these things? Sure, Marin and Tarin were extremely tied to the plot of Link's Awakening. But that is the extent of their role in any Zelda game. They make a couple of cameo-esque appearances, like in OOT, the case in question, but it's still a completely different game and a completely different Link. Plus, LA was featuring a dream world, and was a sort of add-on-like sequel to a Link to the Past. More points subtracted from the oh-so-Marlink-and-thusly-canon Malink. ;)

Alantie - June 26, 2006 02:04 AM (GMT)
*coughs* Nothing against Saria, because I absolutely adore the girl, but I really don't believe that its possible for her to ever grow up. I've seen the fics too about how she leaves the forest and grows up. . . but the thing is, okay: the reason the forest children don't leave is because if they do they will supposedly die. I was doing some thinking on this, and I think what most people are thinking is that Link left the forest, so he grew up, so the same thing would happen to one of the other kids, like Saria, right? But he was never a Kokiri to begin with. The Kokiri never grow up. I believe the Deku Tree or one of the other Kokiri tells Link this flat out. I think the reason they die if they leave the forest is because the Deku Tree is their father, their guardian and what keeps them alive. It seems to me that out of the forest the Kokiri simply wouldn't be able to live without the rich life and magic of the forest. *shrugs* but that's just my opinion. *yawns* So sleepy. I will be back later to adress the Malink thing, though I think you've done a wonderous job, Luna! ^_^ Especially calling her the Tifa Lockheart of Zelda. It couldn't be more true!

Dirty Harry - June 26, 2006 10:28 AM (GMT)
Nyehehehe...I'm back. More impossibly long random posts that are not stories comign up, I forgot the dashes.

First of all; the Malon-Talon "package" is the most definite thing in the world. For example, check the LoZ OOT manual; a picture of Malon, Talon and Ingo all in the same picture. This picture is used twice, and highlights the fact that they're a package deal. Link and Zelda are pictured together, and I won't explain the logic of the two of them together; we're all Zelink, we know what it meant.

Second; Saria pairings are now quite possible. Refer to Twilight Princess trailers, and check for a green-haired girl who appears during "Zelda's Lullaby". Also, I do think that the girl tied to the top of the post is Saria, and thus Link is going to rescue her. However, there is always, and will be a Zelda in it, and this time, we sees her with a sword, methinks. (Or at least, me sees Zelda in concept art with a sword, and hopes she whoops butt, methinks.)

Third; from what I've heard about Marin, I think she could be treated as a separate character in herself. She's...a hybrid cross between Link and Zelda, methinks. Why? She sings! Like Malon! And she looks like Zellie! Woot-woot! Why can't we make EVERYONE happy (or not happy) and make Malink MarinxLink. (all Malinkers are just silently going "eh hehe...NO."

Other pairings are fun to write with, and they can be interesting as side-shows. But other than that? Nahh...

Zelda is the Aeris of LoZ-hehehe...

Paladin's Heart - June 29, 2006 03:44 PM (GMT)
Heh, I was looking for Sims today and I've come across a common pairing that I'm surprised that no one mentioned. Anyways, this isn't who Link is paired up, it's Zelda this time. So, what do you people think of...

Marth x Zelda?

All because of Super Smash Brothers Melee... What I think? It's a nice idea, seeing as they both have the same experiences of losing their kingdoms to a world of ruin and destruction, and if it were on the 'looking good together' thing.

Verdict? Bullcrap. Nuff' said. :D.

*proudly waves her Marth x Fiora flag* :ph43r:

Dirty Harry - July 1, 2006 07:05 AM (GMT)
Oh. You have mentioned my hated pairing.

No, not my hated. I am not really too sure what Marth is like in the SSB or Fire Emblem series, however I have heard he's weird in SSB. Everytime I read fnaifc about him, he's a villian, and I prefer it that way because I own with my Link in SSB!

Correction to my last post; I meant that Marin is a cross between MALON and Zelda, not Link. Uggh...Link and Zelda must be SEPERATE characters, what was I thinking?

What about GanondorfxZelda? They are quite...interesting pairings, but I don't like them that much. For some reason I like GXM better. They're funny...Oh well. Comment on that pairing, and yeah. Whatever.

Paladin's Heart - July 1, 2006 02:06 PM (GMT)
(off-topic) Hmm, I can tell you a bit about Marth. After all, I am a Marth user in SSBM :P.

Well, I wouldn't call Marth weird or anything like that because everyone has their own style of fighting with a character and Marth just happen to fit my style. :P Sadly, Link is kind of too slow of me but I like using him (minus that fact that I always lose with him xD). It's just Marth's fast speed and his agile sword techniques that I like and I'm comfortable with in a battle with making wicked combos. xD.

Anyways, I myself don't know much about him in Fire Emblem. The least bit I know is that he's a prince and a decendant of the person who killed that dark dragon xD. And Sheeda has a crush on him throughout the game. And he has his own Anime (which sucked, in my opinion) xD.

(on-topic) Whew, okay, Ganondorf x Zelda...

 ... My mind is so twisted with comments I'm actually speechless. I mean, It COULD happen. Seeing how many times Ganon wanted to kidnap the princess for his own selfish needs. I mean, do I really have to name them? Who knows? Maybe Ganon had something else on his mind?

Dirty Harry - July 1, 2006 02:28 PM (GMT)
I meant I heard he was weird in the way he acted, but oh well.

I haven't managed to use any Link in SSBM because I don't have a GC. How sad...does anyone know where to get good ROMS for Gamecube? (off-topic) (and more off topic)

I usually use Link because he's much more balanced, and on wall levels, I'm an expert multi-smash combo with Link, however, I use a keyboard, so that might be the difference.

On Topic-Marth is so annoying in all of the fanfics I read; I get happy when he n Roy bite dust. Or Link owns them. :D

Now, if you think I am anti-Marth, I'm sorry, I am. Very. Because I hate him in all the fanfics when he hits on Zellie. End of my story, and shallow life (Paladin's Heart comes out of nowhere and stabs me! :D )

GanonxZelda...hmm. I can say it's an interesting pairings, but I prefer DarkxZelda, because they're much cooler. The fact that Dark can be twisted into a real Link is really useful as a tool plotwise.

Off-topic; do you think I'm male or female?

Paladin's Heart - July 1, 2006 09:05 PM (GMT)
 ...ooooooohhhhhh. That's what you meant!

(off-topic) Hmm, Fanfiction is made by fans. So I guess that ANYTHING could happen. I'm assuming that not many authors know alot about Marth's story in Fire Emblem and they think he and Zelda 'look good together'.

Well, people have their own opinions, and you being anti-Marth is okay with me. *curses under her breath* :P. But anyways, the authors interpret Marth as their own character since, assuming again, that they don't know much about Fire Emblem. I guess that's where you base your opinions off of, no?

(on-topic) Back to my thoughts on Ganon x Zelda! Remember when you first went into the courtyard in OOT? Remember when Zelda was staring so intently at the window, with Ganon right before her eyes? It tru luv, you can't deny it!

... okay sorry xD.

No seriously, whoever thought this pairing up, I wanna know what they were smoking. Cause I want some to understand this pairing :D.

Dirty Harry - July 2, 2006 01:09 PM (GMT)
Hmm...I actually had to look up who Marth was! Yeah...hey, if Crazygurlmadness takes a look at this, you've read stuff by sawyerzelda, right? All of it is sooooo Marth dissing, just...hmm. Well, I've heard he's got real good attacks, but from what I saw, he looked to Melee-heavy, and too easy to break by using Boomerang-running Sword combos from behind. I dunno...

That was off-topic. Yes, GanonxZelda pairings are very weird for me. I think there may have been ZeldaxSheik once! But here is the one EVERY FANFICTION WRITER HATES!

LINKxOC. WHAT IS UP WITH THE PEOPLE WHO DO THESE THINGS! WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR HOW YOU HOOKED UP WITH THE PERSON MEANT FOR DEAR LIL' ZELLIE!

Paladin's Heart - July 6, 2006 03:11 PM (GMT)
Haha! I think we should just all forget about Marth x Zelda. It's fanon, so let's just all support Marth x Fiora. :ph43r: Just kidding.

Oh! The other day I came across a Ganon x Zelda fic! I didn't bother reading it because it was a lemon/lime thing. Probably something along the lines of: him raping her for his own pleasure. -shudders-

Link x OC? Hmm, I don't usually like supporting OC's with characters because, mainly, it's just the author writing a Mary-Sue or something like that. Or trying to convert other shippers with her pairing. I met this Cloud x Krystal (OC) shipper and she bashed Aerith and Tifa. <_<

Suprisingly, we didn't have much talk about MaLink either (but it's already been pwned roffle). In the manga, Malon DID admit to having some kind of crush towards Link when Ingo went crazy and He was saving her, but then when Shiek tells Link about Zelda... well, 'There goes Malon's short-lived loved..'

Oh well, more MaLink pwn-ness.

Alantie - July 7, 2006 05:12 PM (GMT)
I think the thing with pairing Zelda with Ganondorf is kinda the same as the people who pair Sephiroth up with Aerith. Its that whole evilness and goodness thing. . . Also that control and possession deal. Some people just enjoy seeing the heroine paired up with Mr Evilness, either because the good little heroine could turn him from his evil ways, or becuase Evil Man corrups the heroine. *shrugs* I've never found it appealing myself. . . but there are those who do.

Dirty Harry - July 8, 2006 04:44 PM (GMT)
GanonxZelda doesn't have as much appeal as SephxAeris. Reason is because CloudxAeris and SephxAeris (I prefer Seph) actually have more in common, than GxZ and LxZ. And this is CHARACTER (personality) wise. Seph is usually recreated as a more mature and ambitious version of Cloud, (I think, not very familiar) and both of them have Mako in them. The fact that one is dark, and one is light...well, easily put, Seph as human qualities, jsut like Cloud, and SephxAeris fics can easily bring this out.

GxZ <_< doesn't. Ganon is created as TOTALLY unfeeling. And we mean TOTALLY. Which is why most GxZ we don't like that much. Totally senseless character with hot chick = mostly shitty story. Mainly 'cause the guy was ugly, but besides the point. Not, Shadow LinkxZelda is far better. :D

Alantie - July 10, 2006 05:00 PM (GMT)
Rofl. Yeah, Ganondorf is as ugly as sin! *huge shudder* Lol, I can see the appeal of the Zelda/Shadow Link coupling. It kind of reminds me of the Kaoru/Battosai thing vs the Kaoru/Kenshin. Battosai is just a darker more unpredictable version of Kenshin, and that is how Shadow Link is usually portrayed in the fics. A darker, dangerously sexy Link ^_^; I also like the Fierce Diety Link (Oni Link, also I think he's called?) and Zelda. :D

Dirty Harry - July 12, 2006 08:57 AM (GMT)
Yes, he is referred to as Oni Link. Or demon Link. And yes, Dark Link is sexy. At least, most fangirls portray him that way. It's quite funny, but essentially (in my opinion), Dark Link and Link are the same character, just two sides of the coin. Don't ask why, either. Though...I think there's someoen who had a great fic explaining it. Forgot who. Maybe was crazygurl. :D

Lutearina - July 13, 2006 01:38 AM (GMT)
WOW! You people come up with weird pairings. x3

Or does my canon, stay-in-the-same-game/story, NONONONO YAOI/YURI, blah blah blah mind just act weird that way? x3

Oooh...The whole OC Mary-Sue convert-to-me I am married to all teh bishies thing....I have just ONE thing to say.

SAKIREI. O______________________________________o
http://brideofsephiroth.deviantart.com

*cough*

Anyway....About the GxZ, that pairing, as stated before, IS like SephxAerith, which ALSO scares me. I am just an odd person who is very bad at explaining things and needs to get get her din-din. x3

Alantie - July 13, 2006 03:10 AM (GMT)
Rofl. Lol, yeah, some are wierd pairings, huh? Though some I can see the appeal of. But NEVER with G/Z *SHUDDER* It scares the freak outta me, just like S/A, Lutearina! ^_^ Though Oni Link/ Zelda and Dark Link/ Zelda aren't THAT odd. Neither is Link/ Marin, if you consider Marin to be the dream world Zelda. . . or maybe that's just me and my wierd thoughts.

Lutearina - July 15, 2006 06:05 AM (GMT)
Naaawww, I agree with ya. Although I haven't really played any of the Zelda classics, because OoT and MM don't really count, I think. I was in third grade, c'mooon! xD So I do think Link x Marin would be okay, as it IS a dream world, no? xD

Alantie - July 16, 2006 02:57 AM (GMT)
I actually haven't played any of the Zelda classics, except if you count Link's Awakening. And yes, Lute-chan, the world in that game is a dream that this creature called the Windfish is having. When Link first sees Marin he confuses her with Zelda, but there are things that lead me to believe Marin is the Windfish's dream version of Zelda. . . *shrug* Kinda confusing. . .

Lutearina - July 16, 2006 03:15 AM (GMT)
Myaaaaan......VERY confuzzling, Alantie. xD I should play some of the old classics, ne? :D If I can find them somewhere..... :ph43r:

*Somewhat off topic- Man! My friend almost got me the AC Vincent figurine at the AnimeCon, but got me a Yuki Sohma hat instead. I love em both but I am currently on a Vinny hype....Darn. I'll just get him meself. ^_^*

Alantie - July 16, 2006 04:30 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I should play em too. We have the premotional disk and I tried to play one of the classics, and I sucked at it  I should also play Minish cap! Then I could gather more Zelinky evidence! Whoa, here's a pairing I didn't consider: Link/Navi! Now there's something to ponder!

*Kwaahhh!!! You almost got a Vinny figure Lute-chan?! I don't blame you for being obsessed with him, he is teh smex!*

Dirty Harry - July 26, 2006 12:23 PM (GMT)
Hmm...another pairing...

What's another pairing? I wonder what would happen if there was a LinkxMedli pairing...oh the horror. Medli's a girl, right? I can't remember...

Alantie - July 26, 2006 05:35 PM (GMT)
Yes, Medli is a girl, and there is a fanbase for that pairing too  I always thought Medli liked that Prince Kamali guy. . . I think that was his name. I dunno about this pairing, it seems a bit wierd to me, kinda the same way a Ruto Link pairing feels.

Ahahaha, yes, there are people that pair Link up with Navi, much to my eternal amusement.

Dirty Harry - July 27, 2006 01:28 PM (GMT)
 yes...

Lutearina - July 31, 2006 06:08 PM (GMT)
Medli likes Prince Komali. End of discussion. xD

Navi and LINK!?!? How disturbing. Navi=fairy ball of light. O_o xDD

Navi gets pretty annoying, anyway. It reminds me of...Tinkerbell and Peter. Navi is jealous of Zellie! :D

Dirty Harry - August 1, 2006 03:13 PM (GMT)
Just a ball of light? You don't wanna know what else they made her become...

Alantie - August 1, 2006 05:16 PM (GMT)
Er. . . yeah, lol. I always assumed that Navi glowed too brightly for anyone to see what she looked like, which is why she appears as a ball of light. . . *scratches head* Who knows what lies behind that light!!!

QUOTE
Navi gets pretty annoying, anyway. It reminds me of...Tinkerbell and Peter. Navi is jealous of Zellie!

Ha! I never noticed that before Lutey!! That's it!! ^_^ That explains Navi's annoyingness! She wants Link all to herself!

Dirty Harry - August 14, 2006 11:11 AM (GMT)
Tachiagare! Okori Yo! What did I say? I dunno...get PH on it, since she love GS so much, please find out what i means, cause it be wonderful instrumental. :D

What about...like, Dark Link? ZelliexDark Link? Did we discuss this? I forgot... :ph43r:

Alantie - August 14, 2006 04:27 PM (GMT)
Mmm, we might have discussed it, but we shall again! ^_^

Well, I usually don't mind the Dark Link/Zelda pairing since Dark Link is still Link :link: Hey, I should ask Linky poo what he thinks about Dark Link. *runs off to the ask thread*

Dirty Harry - August 15, 2006 10:13 AM (GMT)
Hmm...there's gotta be other people. What about the Oracle girls?

Alantie - August 15, 2006 05:20 PM (GMT)
Welllll. . . the Oracle girls are Din and Nayru. I think Din had a thing for Link too, just the way she acted towards him at times. Nayru had this guy Ralph who had the hots for her, she seemed more aloof around Link so I don't think she really liked him in a romantic sense.

OMFG. I just had a horrible thought: Are their evil people out there who have paired up poor Link with Koume and Kotake?! AAAAHHHHH!!! FF pairing from hell!!!!

Dirty Harry - August 16, 2006 08:42 AM (GMT)
I made them as "slutty" girls in my latest oneshot. That is yet to be posted 'cause I'm so lazy.

You're right about Din...I think.

Alantie - August 16, 2006 04:03 PM (GMT)
Who the slutty girls? Din and Nayru or Koume and Kotake?

Its been awhile since I've played Seasons, mainly because that game is a huge pain in the rear. I like Ages more, but my brother lost my copy of it  But from what I remember Din seemed kind of flirty with Link.
