Title: "Zelda is your..."
Description: From A Link to the Past.
Paladin's Heart - May 29, 2006 10:02 PM (GMT)
I'm sure everyone knows this theory about Zelda being Link's sister or whatever from this line said by Link's...uncle or whatever in
A Link To The Past. I'm sure many of you who've played the game and AT LEAST reached the basement of the castle, and Link's uncle's last words were "
Save the Princess...Zelda is your...".

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/Exce...Blade/atttp.jpgEDIT: Okay! Now that I'm back, I can finally give my opinion! :)
As Rosey-chan stated, yes it wouldn't make the storyline because of Link's bloodline and Zelda's own bloodline. And anyways, if Zelda really was Link's sister and she had his blood, then she would've had a chance to become Hero also. xD. ALTTP would've been messed up right there.
or maybe his uncle was going to say 'consort' :o.
Hylian Cetra - May 30, 2006 03:38 AM (GMT)
Oh dear...other than the dreaded FFVII ltd this is another issue that I argue xD
I think it's bull... because in the japanese versionit was worded as so it would say "destiny" and not "sister"
destiny > sister ;)
besides, we all know Link was the last of the bloodline of the Knights of Hyrule
while Zelda is the descendant of the Royal family... if Link had the royal blood and not that of the Knights... then the story wouldn't make sense seeing as how it was stated in the prophecy that only "one with the blood of the knights can become hero"
just what I think :]
Lutearina - May 30, 2006 10:32 PM (GMT)
Yeah...About that, I was reading on some Zelda site or other, and it said this (or something like this):
I know you all want us to tell you he was trying to say "sister", but he was going to say "destiny."
Something like that. Hehehe...Destiny sounds something more like "future relationship".... ;)
Alantie - June 11, 2006 09:59 PM (GMT)
I've heard the argument that they are brother and sister too, only it was for OoT. The person was cliaming that because Zelda's mother is dead, and we know Link's mother died in the forest, that omg, Link and Zelda must be siblings! But the manga clears that up, saying Link's father was a member of the royal guard, right?
CrazygurlMadness - June 12, 2006 09:37 PM (GMT)
I think this whole brother-sister thing is bull. I mean, come on. What are the odds?
Because, who knows, maybe Ganondorf was actually the uncle in disguise. :ph43r:
It's obvious some sibling-shippers need a hobby.
Paladin's Heart - June 14, 2006 11:33 PM (GMT)
On another note, I've never played WW, and I was doing a google search one day and I found out that a girl named Aryll was Link's sister or something? Could someone clear that up for me?

Yes, in WW, Link and his little sister Aryll live with their grandmother on the island. If what you're wondering is if Aryll is Zelda, then don't worry, because she isn't. I hope that helps clear things up! :D

Wow, I wasn't even thinking of that. But anyways, thanks for clearing it up! ^_^
Just goes to show you that 'Zelda = Link's sister' theory is dead.
... Just kills the discussion of the topic, huh? Dx.
Hylian Cetra - June 16, 2006 04:43 AM (GMT)
*revivez discussion* D:
but then again many argue that separate Zelda games have different people in them IE the Link in WW isn't the Link from OoT and so on and so on.
So how would that affect the theory itself? *dodges tomatoes* (lol just trying to keep it alive xD)
CrazygurlMadness - June 16, 2006 09:35 PM (GMT)
Well, it is a fact that Aonuma said there were different Links (or generations of, if you prefer). It is extremely plausible that the different Links would have different relationships with the surrounding characters (excluding Ganon from the list, because he's the archenemy).
To be the devil's advocate, it may be that Link and Zelda were related at some point during the development process of the earlier games, but due to a lack of pixel/cartridge space and no appropriate moment to put in the clues, the idea was dropped and instead of being revealed as Link's sister (which is a feasible and quite common plot twist nowadays that would have been all new back in the 80s), Zelda became a mere friend/love interest.
I'm kind of glad Zelda isn't Link's sister, though to be realistic, fangroups involving LinkxZelda incest would have arisen even if that had been the case. And that's just wrong.

And just WHAT is wrong with Final Fantasy VII?! (Destiny is correct...and Link to the Past is my favorite game ever!!)
Farore's Wind - July 5, 2006 05:11 PM (GMT)
The blank part could've been soulmate or destiny like you guys said....sister?! Ew!

That dreaded Love Triangle. That's what's wrong with VII ;)
yeah  ALTTP is my favorite too 8D *hi-fives*

Yes......I see. That was slightly annoying! ALTTP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT *20000000 Hi fives back*
gr33n_sl33ves - September 10, 2006 06:22 AM (GMT)
Heh, the first time I played that game, I thought it was going to say something along the lines of "Zelda is your responsibility now..." since he was the descendant of Hylian knights and all.
Actually, that isn't true. I at first thought that his uncle was going to say "Zelda is your father..." and Link would be all "NOOOOO! That's not true! That's impossible! She's a GIRL!". But that's what you get for watching The Empire Strikes Back before playing a game, I guess *shrug*
Dirty Harry - September 26, 2006 02:43 PM (GMT)
Imagine if, for one moment, he meant to say...
Zelda is your mom.
Roflcopter.
Alantie - September 26, 2006 03:36 PM (GMT)
OMG :funny:  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Then we'd have that whole Oedipus thing going on, wouldn't we?
gr33n_sl33ves - September 26, 2006 08:34 PM (GMT)
Wow, that's even freakier than the whole "Zelda is you sister" thing O_O
Dirty Harry - September 28, 2006 01:44 PM (GMT)
Lol. Yeah. Oedipus=Link. Whoopee.
I think we gave a new life to that song "Stacy's Mom"
You can see Link in a pop rock outift, going
"My-y mom, has got it goin' on,
She's all I want, and I've waited for so long
Malon can't you see, you're just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong,
But I'm in love with my own mum-who is Zelda, y'all and she is one damn sexy lady"
And suddenly he changes to rapping. I dunno.
Alantie - September 28, 2006 03:58 PM (GMT)
Oh man :funny:  That is so funny, but oh so wrong *shudder* If Nintendo ever makes Zelda Link's mother, I will kill them. :D
gr33n_sl33ves - September 28, 2006 05:38 PM (GMT)
I think every Zelinker would join you if Nintendo did that :D
Angel Zelda - June 3, 2007 11:55 PM (GMT)
"Zelda is your mom." That's just freaky.
HyruleMaster - June 12, 2007 12:37 AM (GMT)
No, DH! Don't! Don't mention Oedipus!! GAH!! I don't like that play at all! Mother?! *catches on fire and shrivels on the ground*
...
When I played the game for the first time (A LOONG time ago...)... to be honest... I was one of those "Zelda is Link's sister!" people... when Ocarina of Time came out I was really confused, and then I just came to the conclusion that the creators just changed their minds... then I slapped myself... played the game again... and had second thoughts... It's just not possible, I think (Link is a descendent of the kinghts, who, I would assume, defend the throne... Zelda is obviously of the royal family... how then can they intertwine? ...Unless there's some sort of affair... but I doubt that). :o
I'm still traumitized! I just imagined Link screaming, "Kaa-san!!" in the midst of explosions. (Advent Children reference. XD)
*looks at self* I still have burn marks from shriveling...

When I played for the first time (during the beginning of the game), I started out as a Salinker. Then I saw Zelda for the first time, and I graudually changed to a Zelinker.
But, as for the "Zelda is Link's sister" theory, I was first introduced to that theory when I was reading a F.A.Q. section of a Zelda fansite. I didn't give it much thought at first, but when I was bombarded with it, I decided to counter the arguments. (These arguments will cover the Link and Zelda from Ocarina of Time, since we've pretty much agreed that Link and Zelda from A Link to the Past are not siblings.)
1. Zelda tells Link that his name sounded familiar.
Maybe because she saw him in her dream, perhaps? It wouldn't surprise me if that were the case. Zelda can see the future in her dreams. Link had a nightmare about a future event in the game. I think it's safe to assume that Ganondorf had a similar dream, maybe one where he obtains the Triforce?
2. Link and Zelda have the same hair and eye color.
This is a moot point. I used to have a friend who had the same hair and eye color as me, and we're not siblings. In fact, many people have the same hair and eye color in real life and aren't related.
3. Flat the Younger tells Link that he reminds him of Zelda.
So? My parents remind me of Inuyasha and Kagome, and they're not related. (There is, however, an inside joke between my friend and I that my parents are the reincarnations of Inuyasha and Kagome, but that's another story.) I think what Flat the Younger was talking about was Link's bravery, but I don't know.
So, there's really no evidence that can be used to prove the "Zelda is Link's sister" theory.

Good point. People can look like each other and not be related.
In fact, I've noticed as couples continue to stay together, they start looking like each other. XD And not with just older people... I think I see it in some younger couples, too.

Sorry to revive a dead topic, but when I was playing Link to the Past recently, the one they ported to the GBA, I noticed that they changed the whole, "Zelda is your..." thing to Link's uncle saying, "I'll always remember... our time together..."
They probably did this precisely to alleviate the "Zelda is your sister" thing :P

I only have it for the GBA, but thing is, they can't be siblings. Link is related to a Hyrule Knight and Zelda is related to a sage. Thus, no sibling is there.
I love it when I use logic like this. It happens so rarely. ;)

I noticed that changed dialogue, too. ='D
My theory is that the creators changed it to avoid any speculation of them being siblings.
And unless the sages and the knights intermingled... there's no way they could be related... and if the knights and sages were related somehow, time and different marriages would probably have separated there blood-line. So doesn't that make the Link and Zelda sibling theory impossible?
gliderpilotgirl - April 9, 2008 07:33 PM (GMT)
I'm agreed: that sounds like precisely why it was done. I've come across this "sibling" theory again and again, and it bothers me every time. Nintendo continually puts Link and Zelda in situations with romantic overtones ( subtle or blatant ), so in my mind, there's no question that this theory is horribly wrong.
With ALTTP: two entirely different bloodlines are involved, and if a relation existed at some point ( it's very possible as we have a lack of Hylian blood, yet Link and Zelda both share strong traits of it ) it's irrelevant. They wouldn't be related enough to matter.
With OoT: I've seen those points too, but the ZeLinker in me just uses them as their connection being reinforced...they've dreamt about each other, and others comment on their connection: drawing attention to the fact Link is bound to Zelda.
I definately agree with the "destiny" part. I've heard of that translation before, and considering the rest of the series..it fits. In WW, it's all about fate, and to me, they pretty much outright said Tetra was Link's destiny/fate. I believe the same of all the Link/Zelda pairs, they have an inevitable destiny to eventually be brought together.

There was a two disk CD set of LttP music released in Japan quite some time ago, by the name of Sound and Drama, and the last track on the first disk was a 17-minute radio drama (essentially) that acted as a prologue to Link to the Past. You can hear and read it for yourself
HERE, but I'll just cut to the chase and say that Link and Zelda are not portrayed as being related, and that it is also chock full of Zelinky goodness :D
HyruleMaster - May 20, 2008 01:16 AM (GMT)
Now that just makes it obvious. XD
gr33n_sl33ves - May 22, 2008 09:24 PM (GMT)
And official, because it was approved by Nintendo :D
MadMags - July 9, 2010 08:29 PM (GMT)
Weeeell... if in ALttP, assuming that its later in the timeline, Zelda and Link are siblings, it could actually be a sign of ZeLink. See, every girl in the Royal Family bloodline is supposed to be named Zelda. So, if the Zelda and Link before ALttP got married and had kids, they would call the girl Zelda, and the boy, most likely, Link. But, the Link in ALttP was not living in the castle so... You get my point, don't you?
But I'm not saying I want them to be silings. I'd much rather them being not related at all. But I thought I might put that out there.
