Title: Next. Gen Systems.
Description: my two cents.

Paladin's Heart - May 21, 2006 03:07 PM (GMT)
Okay, so I'd love to dicuss some matters according to the next gen. consoles and I would LOVE to hear your opinion.

As you know, many of you who has been keeping up with video game news now knows that Nintendo's next gen. console, formally known as Revolution, is now being called the Nintendo Wii.

... No, seriously.

If it's REALLY called the Wii, then I would have to say that it's the worst console name in Video Game history. (Next to Wonderswan. -shudders-, so fruity!) like, really. What the HECK is that? And to even spice up my confusion, how is it pronouced? 'Wee' or 'Why'?

Next, I'm having trouble deciding which console to get (until my brother and I could afford the next one). As any fangirl/boy would be, I'm loyal to Sony and it's heavenly, divine systems, the playstations and it's all good graphics. But after seeing the gameplay of the Wii, it was all the more harder to decide. I don't really know the price of each, either. (I think PS3 was rounded from $499-$599?)

So basically, it's a 'Wii' or 'PS3' thing.

Thoughts, anyone?

I honestly don't mind the name change.... despite the fanboy jokes XD (it's pronounced "We")

and I'll definitely get a Wii.... cause I mean.... $200 >>>> $600 IMHO ^_^

and the new controller is just total love... so wha's a name got to do with the console's awesomeness?

Here's the article

so it's not that bad =/

PS3 is going to be super expensive...so I'll probably wait for the price of that to go down. It doesn't seem that different though...nothing too exciting to look forward to yet....

I'm kinda nervous/excited for the Wii. Its finally something new AND original, compared to the PS3/360. New controller, and its different! They also said they were targeting people who don't play video games, which is the part that makes me nervous. I'm afraid they may make the game too easy with the new style...But I'm not that worried yet.^_^

I guess I'll just have to wait to find out! ^_^

I think I'm gonna get the Wii first. As people have stated, it IS cheaper, and it IS revolutionary and "new". ^_^ Plus, I REALLY wanna try out the controller! Its all just so awesome. I haven't seen ANY demo or anything of it yet, so I'm in the dark...But it still sounds awesome. All I've seen is the controller. :P

If I want to keep playing the other upcoming Zelda games (the ones after TP, I mean, since THERE WILL BE MORE!), I will buy the Wii. Because I'm curious. And it's cool.

I'm hesitating, though. Rasberry coloured, or lime green? :P

Hey, everyone, I was just looking at the new Wii on Yahoo, and I was wondering: what are y'all's thoughts on it?

The Wii, has, according to the reviews, been a revolutionised innovation in gaming, to make it more innovative etc. While it wasn't exactly big on graphics, it was more on control, and appeal to the newer generation of gamers.

So, what're your thoughts? How does it stack up against PS3 and XBox 360?
(It scored higher than the 360, but lower than the PS3)

My thoughts on the Wii? I friggen' want one!

Seriously though, out of the three next-gen consoles, the Wii is the only one that holds any appeal to me. I'm not fussed on the 360, partly because it's a Microsoft console and I'm not too eager to put more money into Bill's pocket. The other part is that none of the games really interest me, and the games are the whole point of having a console. That, and the 360 is only selectively backwards compatible, and it seems like only stupid games were made compatible (Halo, the whole reason for getting an Xbox, can't be played on the 360, which is just dumb).

I'm not getting, nor am even interested in a PS3, not with that $600 price tag on it. Like most Sony products, it's way too overpriced. Apparently, some Sony exec said that they would sell over 10,000 units, even if it didn't have any games, so on principle I am obliged to not by the damn thing. And they don't even have an original font for it! That's the freaking Spider Man font! As a graphic designer, I find that offensive!

The Wii, on the other hand, is both affordable, completely backwards compatible with Gamecube games, and with that virtual arcade thing, you'll eventually be able to play any Nintendo game, ever, on the Wii. Also, in its launch window, they're releasing games of two of my favorite franchises (Zelda and Metroid), as well as others that please me greatly (Like Mario Galaxy and Red Steel). Out of the three current console producers, Nintendo is the one with the most experience (it's been around for more than 20 years, and that has to count for something), and has a history of making excellent games and consoles. Sony was trying to make the PSP out to be a Game Boy killer, yet despite its fancy graphics, the games for it generally suck. The PS2 was supposed to be the highest-end console, yet the Cube had better graphics. And Xbox had to have a massive recall because a lot of them were shipped with power cords that would catch on fire, which isn't really something people want their power cords doing.

So, in conclusion, I have a massive bias towards Nintendo, because of their long history of creating incredible games and consoles that just won't die, and Microsoft and Sony can bite my shiny metal ass because they seem more interested in making money than making good games.

Niiice...

I must decide quickly. My time is running out...

Erg. . .

I'm having issues with the Wii. I do not like the way the controller is designed at ALL. For some reason, it seems overly complicated to me. I know its supposed to be more more interactive and make you feel like you're actually fighting the characters . . . but I just don't like it.

Its actually surprising, since I usually go for Nintendo products. I can't stand Xbox, and I used to be totally anti PS2 (until I got sucked into Kingdom Hearts and FFVII *sweat*)

So, I'm not going to waste my money on the Wii until I can try it out or that a game I really want to play comes out for it. Since TP is going to be released for GC and the Wii, I'm sticking with the Cube for this round. Same for the PS3. Unless they release that remake of FFVII that they've been hinting at, I'm not gonna get it, unless they lower the price MAJORLY (either of those or the release of KH3, whichever comes first!)

CrazygurlMadness - October 27, 2006 12:17 AM (GMT)
To be honest, I had reservations at first, but now, my rabid need for TP surpasses all.

Plus, it can't be that bad.

Dirty Harry - October 28, 2006 03:55 PM (GMT)
Of course, to be expected from CGM.

Hmm...I like PS2s. They're user friendly. I just hate it when my mod chip plays up on me.

:D Any one else?

---Hey guys, we kinda already had a topic on the Wii, as well as the the 360 and PS3. I decided to merge it, because this topic is all related altogether. So discuss all new consoles here! Erm, if you don't like the merging of this topic, PM me and I'll see what I can do. -_-; Also, this topic belongs under the Ice Cavern due to it being related to video games. Hope it isn't too much trouble! =D

Have no worries Alantie! I'm sure the Wii controller you are intimidated by is this controller, yesh? I didn't like it at first either.

But they've also made another controller, for those who don't like the other one. http://www.webjunkies.co.uk/blog/wp-conten...-controller.jpg I'm still not sure how they're going to sell it, but I'm still excited! I also read in an add at EB games was how you get to hook up Gamecube controllers as well! Its going to be awesome.

Nintendo just thinks of everything, don't they?

Paladin's Heart - December 14, 2006 10:10 PM (GMT)
Sorry for reviving such an old topic, but now since that everything's been released (which can only mean the next generation of gaming has started), what do you think so far?

As much as I have to say it, I'm leaning A LITTLE BIT over to the Wii's side. (It actually earned my honour to be called by it's name!) Just because of it's gameplay and what the Wii Remote is capable of doing. It's much better than sitting around holding a controller while Nintendo is actually making "get into the game" and Wii Sports is a good example. It's actually better if you do stand up and swing the Wii Remote, but it's also just as fine if you sit done and twist your wrist xD.

But one problem is the actual Wii Remote. There has been reports of the strand breaking when it has been swung too hard and it goes flying and breaking. However, the cause of this is debateable. And The Wii also has a bit of bugs that need fixing. I was playing Twilight Princess one day and I was in the Goron Mines. I fell into the lava and it froze on me. Well, the screen stayed at the lava and wouldn't go back to Link. I mean, I could move and everything, but I couldn't see what I was doing.

I guess Nintendo has a few stuff to fix, hmm? But then again, all new consoles have bugs and them and when released at later dates, the bugs are fixed. On that note, my gamecube freezes on me xD. Got it on the release date back in 2001, we did.

Actually, that's the controller to use when you download older Nintendo games. Like ones for the SNES and NES. :giggle:

I do not intend for this to become a console wars topic, but keep the flaming to a limit if it does.
