So a train of thought this morning led me to the colour of Link's famous sword. It's a sort of blueish-purple colour, but I've always thought it's leaned more towards the purple end of the spectrum.
I thought that perhaps the game designers coloured it so because you can get the colour purple when you invert green, and since green is the iconic and representative colour of Link, they probably wanted to choose a colour that would somehow relate to our verdant hero.
And then I remembered that purple is merely the colours red and blue mixed.
And in the Zelda universe, red = Power, blue = Wisdom, so therefore purple would be a combination of those two elements.
And I think that's quite a bit more poetic, considering that Link, while he starts his quests off with courage, has to grow in both power and wisdom before he's able to acquire the Master Sword. What do the rest of you think?

It's a possibility, but then maybe they chose purple because it contrasted with Link's green, rather than as an attempt to bring us back to it. After all, could you imagine Link dressed in green, wielding courage, which is green, and on top of it having a green sword? It'd be like a green overload.

Maybe they wanted him to be set off by a secondary colour, much like Zelda wears purplish-pink and white, and Ganondorf has red and yellow. Or brown. Or whatever.

Also, purple has always equalled magic, and what's more magical than the Master Sword? Hasn't HP taught you anything?? :P
