Title: The Magic Armor
Hylian Sword Master - March 17, 2008 03:34 PM (GMT)
I want to know about the magic armor. I mean, just got it, and I want to know 'bout it. I know it protects you and takes down rupees, but does it do anything else? Tell me. I want to know.

There's nothing else to tell about it that I've found in game...when you run out of Rupees, it turns useless and a blue-ish color. It's originally sold for 100,000 Rupees before Malo Mart buys out the shop.
I have a
theory about it though:
If you take a sec and compare it up against what Zelda's wearing, it's nearly the exact same...except made for a guy. It's also been clearly designed for a hero too: the hat obviously, and the gems are green for Courage, like Zelda's are blue for Wisdom.
This can be explained by either of two ways: either a) the dev's just felt like making Link a royal outfit to match Zelda's...if nothing else, it shows they were thinking Prince/King Link.
B) my theory: that like the Hero's Garb and Zora's Armor which were either made for and/worn by the last hero ( hinted to be the Hero of Time ) this outfit was also made for the Hero of Time, worn when he ruled beside Zelda. I can postulate that this is either the real thing, lost from a vault over time or an imitation. Maybe because the last hero possessed magical power ( from OoT and MM ) it used that rather than eating Rupee's ..but the new hero had no magic, so maybe it went for his wallet instead. :P Again, just a theory but that's what theorizing is: taking something from in game, and trying to place it's origins.
Either way..Link looks awesome when you wear it, especially in the final cutscenes.

Dude that theory is really amazing. Just one question. So Link quickly sticks rupees in the slot on the magic armor, is that what you're saying. Also, when you say final cut scenes, is he wearing it when the cut scene starts, or do you have to start the cut scene with the armor on. 'nother thing. If the armor turns off, does it still protect you, or do you both get harmed and its really heavy? cause i bought it, had 2 rupees and it turned off. So will it still protect me? Its really important.

Thanks...it's pretty simple, IMO. Just putting two and two together: a suit of royal hero's garb is around before TP Link ever shows up...who else would it belong to?
Oh, and I found another picture, courtesy of a poster on ZU: Link looks like a zombie, but a good look at the MA nonetheless.

I'm thinking it magically empties his wallet and converts it to power.
You need to enter the cutscene wearing it. If it runs out, you will get harmed...and it will slow you down.

Yeah something like that happened to me in aLttP (i think that's how you write it). Anyway, I was in the last dungeon, and all I had to do was make the run to the boss. But I kept dieing. The I realized that I had the cane of somara. It really sucked. after I thought to use that I got to the boss in my first try.

I never used the armor. I just bought it because I'm the kind of person who needs to have all the extras.

Yeah, I only really used it a few times, it was when I was trying to unlock the Fairy Tears. See, I have this absolutely horrible phobia of all things Re-Deadish as that was the first monster to kill me in a Zelda game...ever. So I go to extremes to deal with them.

I didn't use it then either. I used it once. And when I realized it eats rupees even when I'm not in a fight, I was like "screw this". So I just didn't use it.
The redeads in this game didn't freak me out as bad as the ones in Wind Waker and OoT.

I'd never noticed the resemblance between the Magic Armour and Zelda's outfit! Oh my god, I am so ashamed of myself. And while I hardly ever use the armour (it's okay to spend rupees, but it spends them so fast!), I sometimes take it out. To admire.
So purty.

To think, gliderpilotgirl, that we were panicking over finding a good screenshot of Link's Magic Armor when that incredible hi-def one was available! :yay:
In any case, I just think this more firmly convinces me OoT Link indeed became King beside Zelda. I mean, it just looks too similar to any of the reincarnated Zelda's gowns/outfits for it to be a coincidence. Does this also mean that TP Link becomes King or least a consort beside TP Zelda? I don't know for sure...I would like to think that would occur, but I have a small feeling that the new Zelda (whenever it is announced. GRRRR!!!) might give us some more information on this type of thing.

It's getting easier and easier to find shots of it.
Yes, the crown and shoulder pads are essentially identical, just altered for size and look slightly. The rest of the outfit is pretty much Link's look, but customized to be royal too. The only thing I noticed was his seems to be "less shiny", but that could merely point to age and a lack of care: either that or this is an imitation of the real thing. Whoever made it had the exact specifications of Zelda's, indicating likely it was made at the same time. This sort of thing ( crown jewels ) would be passed down through generations too. As to how it got to the shop, I'd point to corruption as a likely cause. Someone raided a store-room in the castle, or in the case of an imitation, it was possibly ordered as a costume for someone to dress as the Hero.
As for it indicating TP Link's future, I can see that in a symbolic sense, but I still feel it's more "borrowed plumes" from the previous hero. TP seemed to have a thing about the new Link picking up belongings of OoT Link. His tunic, Zora Armor, his bow etc...it's keeping with the pattern.
