Zelink Theme #10: Secret Admiration
Title: An Almost Confession
Words: 163

Fireworks were going off in the sky. Link and Zelda were watching them from Kakariko Village.

“It’s really pretty, isn’t it?” Zelda murmured. She and Link exchanged a glance.

Go for it! a voice sounded in Zelda’s head. Now is the perfect time to tell Link how you feel about him!

“Okay, I’m just going to come out and say it,” Zelda breathed quietly.

“Say what?” Link asked curiously.

Did I say that out loud? Zelda thought. Oh well, here goes.

“Link...” Zelda paused, “sometimes being old friends is hard. I mean, timing is everything.”

Link looked confused. “Where are you going with this?”

Zelda looked at him steadily. “Link...I--”

“Here comes the finale!” Link suddenly shouted.

A beautiful display of fireworks was shown.

“Amazing!” Link exclaimed when the finale was over. “Hey, Zelda, what were you about to tell me?”

“Oh!” Zelda looked startled. “N-nothing!” She looked down at her lap. “It’s nothing...” she repeated quietly.

Zelda silently cursed the fireworks.

This was ridiculous. She was supposed to be strong and fearless, the leader of her people, a key player in the fights against the King of Evil. She had dealt with terror worse that anything most people would ever encounter in their lifetimes. But here she was, paralyzed. And it was all because of the beautiful sapphire eyed blond.

He simply stared back at her, puzzled as she paced before the window, waiting for her to speak. Zelda glanced at him and froze once more. How could she bring the words to her throat? For so long they had been kept bottled up inside, straining to be released, but she had refused to let them go. He might feel he was obligated to love her, might even come to resent her if there was another woman he might love instead.

That was perhaps the greatest fear of all. She knew Link was popular with the women. The Sages of the Forest and Water Temples had admitted strong feelings for the youth, not to mention that the Desert Sage had also expressed an interest as well. Then there was that red headed farm girl he spent so much time with. . .

Her gloved hands trembled, and she balled them into fists. ‘Be strong,’ she urged herself.

“Link. . . do you know what day it is?”

The blond looked amused. “Well, the day is almost over,” he pointed out, nodding towards the window where the sun was setting.

Blast, he was right. But it had taken most of the day for Zelda to summon enough courage to speak to him. As if sensing her distress though, Link hastened to speak once more.

“It’s the day we first met, isn’t it?”

She nodded, relieved. “Link, I’ve wanted to say this for a long time, but I haven’t really had the courage until now- well, you’re the bearer of the Triforce of Courage, so it only makes sense that I wouldn’t have it myself to get this out sooner-”

He took her hand. “Princess, you’re rambling.”

A nervous laugh escaped her. “Am I? I do apologize. I’ll try to get to the point. What I’m trying to say is- Well, that I- I really, from the depths of my heart-”

A light kiss to her lips stopped her short, and she blinked up at him, completely taken aback. Link gave her a crooked smile, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear.

“It’s okay Zelda. I’ve loved you for a long time too.”

Title: The Joys of Chokers
Theme: Secret Admiration
Wordcount: 388
Genre: Comedy
Setting: AU HeadCanon
Rating: PG-13ish

The start of Halloween was always a chaotic affair, so Zelda and Tetra were not surprised to hear voices before they reached the door of the Chevalier residence.
"Aw, sounds like they started without us!" Tetra smirked.
It was a very harried Charon (dresses as a black knight) who answered the door, through he relaxed at the sight of them.
"Good, it's only you two, I thought the brats had started early this year."
"Well, we won't say no to candy either!" Tetra replied, sweeping of her tricorner hat and holding it out before her, shaking it invitingly. Charon rolled his eyes before filling the hat with candy.
"Are Link and D ready yet?" Zelda asked. Charon gave a short bark of laughter, saying, "D is, but he decided to be funny and hid half of Link's costume,"
"Alright you idiot, where did you hide it?!"
"Speak of the devil," Tetra drawled as Link came thundering down the stairs, wearing only black leather pants and a white ruffled shirt.
And, Zelda noticed, a black velvet choker.
Link was dressing up as a vampire, she knew, and he had told her that his character (Link liked to be through when he dressed up, and would often come up with entire back stories) would wear a choker to hide the bite marks he acquired when he was turned.
But seeing the way the tight-fitting necklace accentuated the lines of his neck, which led to the teasingly revealing opening of his shirt, the dip of his collarbone, and the muscles of his chest, it made her want to rip the choker off his neck and give it the bite marked the necklace was supposed to hide.
"Wow, that is the kinkiest expression I have ever seen on your face!"
Tetra's quietly delivered comment snapped her out of her fantasy of checking a certain someone's pulse with her tongue, and she tried to come up with an excuse while fighting back the flow of blood to her face.
She was saved from further embarrassment when her twin forced a sucker into her mouth, saying, "Keep your mouth occupied with that. It's less mortifying in the long run."
Tetra's knowing smirk was embarrassing enough on its own, and Zelda hoped no one would think to ask her sister what she was grinning about.

HeadCanon is sort of this AU world in my head, where all the characters from the Zelda games are living together. Different incarnations of the same character end up as sibling, for example:

Charon Chevalier = Fierce Deity Link
Dougal "D" Chevalier = Dark Link

I have a whole family tree with etymology and everything, so I'm probably going to have to post that up some time :P

Here it is again…

It happens on Mondays—always Mondays—the day she hates the most. There is always a single bloomed dandelion sitting and waiting for her to caress it between her fingers. Nothing came with it—not a poem, not a card—nothing. It was placed on top of her neatly stacked books in her locker by some unknown hand. Just as she reaches for it, a voice always says from behind,

“You’re going to be late for class, Zelda.”

She turns, “Oh, hi, Link! And taking the dandelion in hand, she follows him.

Mondays aren’t so bad after all.

“I like marbles” (222 words)

“Mummy? Mummy? This is a note...a note to the boy in class I like.”

“Dear, would you really want to give a note like that to a boy?”

“Well...I’m going to put it in my diary, so I can tell him one day...”

“Sweetie, can I read it?”

“Sure, Mom.”

“Every day, another kid teases you. For being small. For being alone. For doing what you like to do, for not talking to any of them. For being polite, for being everything they are not.

"And they hate you don’t they? I still remember that day when you first came into class, and they asked you what you liked. You said, “I like marbles” and everyone laughed at you. I laughed too, and I’m sorry that I did. I saw them kick you over, and pull your bag open, left your bags in the mud.

"But, the most amazing thing is that you’re still smiling. I wish I could keep on smiling even when things are bad. And that’s why I think you’re amazing. I admire your courage.”

“Oh, Zelda, that’s a really well-written note. And it’s so nice, too. Those boys at your school sound horrible. But, tell me, what’s this boy’s name?”

“His name is Link. And I think he’s the bravest boy in the entire world.”

Title: Admiring the Courage

I admired him. I’ll be the first to admit that. I admired the way he smiled at me. I admired his hair. I admired his eyes. Fine, I admired everything about the way he looked (believe me, how I admired that). But there was something else there too. It wasn’t just his good looks that drew me to him.

I admired the way he fought valiantly. I admired how he helped everyone and asked for nothing in return. I admired the way he stood by me even when I hid from him. I admired the way he fought so hard to save my life, even though I started this whole mess in the first place. I admired the way he kissed me after we stopped Ganondorf. I admired the way his eyes shone and his smile widened when he looked at me.

But most of all, even over his looks, I admired him for his courage. I admired him for having the courage to fight for our country, to kiss me, and then giving me the Ocarina that would take it all away.

I admired him for having the courage to let me go.
