(has copied and pasted this from another forum she posted this at) Theres a lot of bad dubbed animes out there.....
One of them I don't like is Naruto......With that pathetic "BELIVE IT!" junk.....>_< The only voice I like is Kakashi's and Sasuke's so far...the rest of the voices they could've done better......
One Piece....I honestly don't think they tried at all on this one....They're voices are all so goofy....o_o.....Same with Zatch Bell....(even though I don't like that show) Zatch's voice is done by the girl who does Jimmy Neutron's voice....o_o
....And Casshan....nobody has really ever heard of this anime....but still....It had bad/corny dubbing..... "Curse......YOU!" *shakes fist*...man o man was it oddly dubbed....
And now there ARE some good animes...
FMA---In my opinion, one of the BEST dubbed animes....
Inuyasha had pretty good voice acting....they could've worked on some of it, but it was still good!
A lot of people don't like the dub from Fruits Basket....but I really liked it.....A lot of people didn't like Tohru's voice....but she sounds fine to me....
Yu Yu Hakusho......Really good....the voice acting cast are really funny people...and they're commentaries on the last disc was hilarious....
I'll add some more later...
But what are some of your favorite/not favorite dubs? (English OR Japanese)
Lets see, my favorite dubs. . .
I like the Escaflowne dub, probably cause that's how I first saw it. I think they did I really good job with the voices, and I love Van's voice
Wolf's Rain seems to have done a good job with dubbing so far (I'm not through watching the series yet!), though I still prefer to watch it in Japanese.
I like the Fruits Basket dubbing too Amaya! I think Tohru's voice sounds a whole lot better in English than it does Japanese. And the rest of the cast has really great voice actors as well. ^_^
Advent Children. I dunno, a lot of people seemed not to like the dub, but I didn't think it was so bad. Most of the voices were pretty good. Steve Burton did an awesome job as Cloud. I didn't so much like Aerith's voice actor, though she sounds a lot better in AC than KH2.
One that I hate with a firey passion is the Rurouni Kenshin dubbing. Its. . .just. . . HORRID in my opinion. I cannot STAND it!!! :blehh: The voice actors for it are just. . . *shudder* I hated Kenshin's voice actor. . .much prefer his Japanese voice.
Most of the time I'll watch in Japanese with the subtitles, unless my brother is watching with me since he can't keep up with the subs.
Preferably, I would choose subtitles over dubbed anime, mainly because the anime would be unedited and raw, rather than the dub being edited to make it suitable for all audiences. I like my anime raw, thank you.
One of the worst dubbed animes I've seen was DNAngel. I've watched both subbed and dubbed versions of this anime, and they made the dub a little too accurate on translation, with Daisuke saying "Ms. Riku!" as the equivalent of "Harada-san!" alot. Got a little bit annoying there, but other than that DNAngel is a great anime (though I suggest you read the manga).
Another bad dubbed anime, though it's highly debated in many forums, is Naruto. I still think they Chouji's voice actor was chosen wrongly, and dosen't fit his character. But they edited out the nose bleeds whenever someone does Sexy no Jutsu, and also that they edited out the Sasuke and Naruto kiss, which was REALLY funny. Not only the voice acting has issues, but the anime has been edited to fit younger audiences (and mainly I'm betting that's where their going to get their cash from), and PH dosen't like that. I also did NOT like they way they changed the opening/closing themes.
Anyway, here are some good dubbed anime that I like:
Full Metal Alchemist - I have to agree with you there, Amy-chan. I've watched the subbed and when the dubbed first came to our local anime station, I like the voice actors as well. Although I haven't seen if the anime was edited or not (which I think not), I still consider this as one of my favourite dubbed animes.
Gundam Seed - I know alot of GS fans have been complaining about this, but believe it or not, Gundam Seed had GREAT english voices, in my opinion. I've watched the dub and I'm watching the subbed version of GS. I actually like some of the english voices better than the japanese voices. For example, Athrun's voice sounded very to somewhat similar to his japanese voice, but I liked his english voice better. And Sei Argyle, his japanese voice has wayy to deep for a 16-year old, and the english voice was perfect, in my opinion. Either way, the Gundam Seed dub was as good as watching a subbed version. (I also LOVE how Matt Hill voiced Kira, he was so much better than Soichiro Hoshi at the crying scenes.)
One problem though, Gundam Seed was edited with the dub version of it, and PH no likey.
With me, I ALWAYS give dubs a chance. Maybe its 'cause I wanna be a voice actress one day. *shrugs* Who knows?
Subs usually end up being the best. For most animes, it always ends up being good.
Like Full Moon wo Sagashite! Its a shame they dubbed that into English. The subs. Wow. They were wonderful. Mainly because the girl who did Mitsuki's voice, was the singer in the songs. That was a good move. And wow, their voices were really good.
Ecch. Sometimes I'll give the dub a chance, sometimes I won't. Mainly because if I don't like the voices, translation or anything else, I'd stick to watching my subbed version, thank you :).
In addition to your statement on Full Moon, I can relate to Gundam Seed's own Lacus Clyne. I think the Japanese voice actor on singing ONLY was better than Lacus' english singing voice because mainly, the song was originally japanese and the voice actor (Rie Tanaka, I think) is also a singer as well. As opposed to the english voice, Lacus' english voice was a bit too high and her singing voice was obviously done by another voice actor. In result, the two voices didn't mix, creating alot of critism between fans.
