Title: Kingdom Hearts
Description: Because you know you love it too
Alantie - August 16, 2006 05:45 PM (GMT)
Well, since I'm still on my Kingdom Hearts kick, I decided to start a topic to discuss it ^_^ I mean, what's not to love about this game? Its simply one of the most wonderful games I have ever played. Lots of pretty boys, a great storyline, and all my favorite Disney and FF characters! Sooo, lets talk about it!!!
(Oh, and be careful of spoilers for those who haven't played KH2!)
Paladin's Heart - August 16, 2006 09:31 PM (GMT)
^_^ My post will contain several spoilers.
KH - At first I thought the idea of this game was stupid. I mean, Disney RPG? Once I got a copy, I started to get hooked onto the game and I had a little bit of shock when I beat it, the game was a bit too short. The Gummi Ship system was a bit...bland. The storyline was somewhat predictable (but was good anyway), and there were some elements in the game that were useless (such as the summon system. I used it only once when I was facing the Secret Boss in Agrabah)
... and WHAT was the use of putting the disney castle on the world map if you couldn't go to, nor see it DO anything. The things I enjoyed were...well, mainly the gameplay. It's somewhat an action-RPG sort of thing which I like, at the least they could've made dungeons with puzzles and stuff like that. Anyway, I was surprised at how Disney and Square pulled it off; a unique clash, they made to make an overall good - not great - game.
KH: COM - I bought this only because I wanted to know the storyline towards KH2. Anyway, I think I like this game the most out of the KH series. I think I'm the only one who liked it's 'action-strategy' battle system and the storyline can be both a big plus and a minus to it.
Most of the worlds were just a repeat of KH1, which got me pissed off, but once the Organization and Namine came into the picture, that's where it takes it's plus. Who would've known that this girl was a shadow of Kairi and had the ability of rewriting memories? Anyway, the big plot twist at the end that Sora wouldn't remember anything that happened in Castle Oblivion, was the biggest shocker of the game.
I won't go into Reverse-Rebirth mode because It didn't play a very big part in KH2, nor did it have anything interesting besides that you play as Riku.
KHII - I'm proud to say that I was quite disappointed in this game, and I regret being so 'over-hyped' about it. They left some plotholes, unfortunatly. For example, at the end of KH:COM, Namine and Sora had a promise of their own to meet again and become real friends. But Sora and Namine never DID have a peronal encounter with each other, except for that one part in The World that Never Was with Roxas and all.
Or, we can look at it this way: Since Namine is Kairi's nobody, and it can be interpreted that Sora and Namine are already friends, then what was the point of putting that in the game? Another reason is the storyline was...I don't know, kind of boring. It can be just summed up as 'I'm the only one who can save the world so I just have to beat this guy and save the world!'
The biggest improvement in the game was the Gummi Ship system, it proved a fun mini-game (and the reason why I still play the game) and became more 'active'. Another improvement was the Drive system, it's pretty cool and can be VERY useful at times, although it pissed me off to train them and rush to a save point to go out into the world map before the drive gauge went down >_<.
I also liked the Item Synthesis as well. But again, there were some useless factors in the game, such as the summons...AGAIN. The only reason I used them was to train them and make my file look good.
Well, no not really. I played the game on Proud so I didn't really need to complete the journal to get the secret ending.
KH is a good series overall, but it can use some improvements, in my point of view.

What a VERY VERY LONG review, Paladin's Heart :D
Anyway, I played Kingdom Hearts I/II. I haven't played KH:CoM but I will get the game real soon. I personally enjoyed KHI a lot better then the second because the story was real, the magics are the best and whatnot. Still, KHII make some things better such as the Gummi Ship, Worlds, a darker storyline, more FF characters even though they didn't play a large role....
I totally can not wait for KHIII. I haven't gotten to see the secert ending of Kingdom Hearts II. Men, I gotta play the game on proud mode! :)
Alantie - September 6, 2006 10:30 PM (GMT)
Wow. You were really disapointed by KH2 Paladin? I was so impressed by it, I can't even put into words. They improved it so much from the first game in my opinion. Battling became MUCH easier, particularly with the reaction command and the drive forms, though at the same time it still remained a challenge. The story line went into more depth and it was much more mature and darker than the first.
I myself have tried playing COM and hated it because the game play style was too complicated for my tastes :blehh:
I'm hoping though that for KH3 that they keep Sora, Kairi, and Riku in it because I feel the game just wouldn't be the same without them, plus there are too many loose ends from KH2 to be left undone without those characters.
Mmm, just a side note, but does anyone have the version of Sanctuary played backwards? I have never heard it and its supposed to be really freaky!!
Dirty Harry - September 9, 2006 04:27 PM (GMT)
Haven't played it. I just got the whole storyline of wikipedia.com. So naughty I am.
I enjoyed KH1 a lot. It was a bit basic in terms of Gummi, but the battle system made it fairly exciting and interesting. I thought the storyline was well thought out and made for a more complex kind of theme exploration, and an overall effect of a great theme and storyline.
The replayability sucks, however. NOT REPLAYABILITY. It is boring as, once you've played it through once. And I have nothing else to say. I shall leave the rest to someone else to make this more interesintg...because I'm high on water. :D

*copies and pastes where she said this on another forum*
M'kay, I just KNOW somebody's gonna shoot me for not liking KHII.
...*hides*
I ADORE KH1. It was so memorable, I'm never gonna forget this game. I had so much fun, and the story was simply lovely. I mean sure, it doesn't have scene skip, nor does it have some other stuff it could definetly use, but I really thought this game was amazing. Every world's story was great, and the main story line overall was terrific! The ending made me cry.
KH CoM. I liked this one, being since I could bring it with me everywhere. I loved meeting Namine. She was so lonely...I felt so bad for her. I'm so happy Sora was nice enough to be friends with her. (Or maybe something more! XD) Also, I liked the idea of adding Riku's story in there. That was REALLY interesting, finding out what Riku had been doing after the darkness. I'm also one of the few people who enjoyed the card system. It was a challenge, and thats what I like, so I liked it a lot.
KH2...meeeh. This game to me, was too fanservice-y. They could've tried harder. The story was alright, and adding in a few things like the triangle button, Sora's forms, scene skip made it pretty good. The started off great, with Roxas. I think they did the whole thing with Roxas perfectly. After that...well, in my opinion, everything went down hill. The story started to get choppy, and the World stories were terrible. Like, for the Little Mermaid, you basically fight Ursala again even though you killed her in the first game. Things like that didn't make sense. The whole point of this game, was unlocking keyholes to find Riku/Kairi/Other stuff, which is basically undoing all your work in KH1. Booo! So much more I could complain about...but I'm not up for it.
So yeah, KH2 was my least favorite KH game. ^^

*shoots Amaya*
Rofl, no, no I won't! I like you too much to shoot you, even if I disagree with you!
Okay, here goes my response/thoughts:
KH1: The story was incredible. I loved Sora's quest to find Riku and Kairi and how he delt with Riku's betrayal. The ending made me sob buckets of tears, lol. However, I do admit that some of the worlds really annoyed me. For instance, I did not like at all Wonderland, Deep Jungle, or Monstro. I HATED them. The worlds were poorly designed and the story in those places realy dragged >_< I also hated the battle style in Atlantica. It was just so friggen annoying to try and fight as a merperson! Ursula was mega hard! Overall, the game was decent though, I adored it for the most part.
CoM: Now, don't you shoot me for this Amaya, but I haven't played CoM. I've never been able to get my hands on a copy of my own. What I have played was a bit from my friend letting me play hers, and it drove me insane. I really, really, REALLY hated the card battle system. It was just sooooooooo annoying. But the story line was awesome, as it was in KH1.
KH2: Woo kay. I'm gonna try and not give you an earful (eyeful? ) because I really loved this game. There was so much vast improvement from KH1, I'm not even sure where to start. M'kay, lets see, battle styles were muchly improved. The Drive system was brilliant, as was the reaction command, and I loved that they introduced limit commands for joined attacks. Fighting became more fun, and a whole lot easier, though Summons are still basically usless. I for one was pleased with the Atlantica level. I liked doing the songs instead of being forced to suffer the agony of fighting as a merboy again! Though I wish they had done Kiss the Girl. . . *cough* And about Ursula being back? When she first appears to Ariel, Ariel says "Didn't my father banish you?" Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds to me that after Sora finished with the octopus woman, Triton banished her, instead of her being killed. *shrug* Mebbe I'm wrong, but that's what I thought. I actually liked the world stories. I thought it was so neat to have Sora stuck in the middle of them, so you think you know how things are going to work out, but at the same time you don't. I wasn't fond of the THREE HOUR INTRO *dies* as much because it took FOREVER to get through, though I did like getting Roxas' story. Okay, I've typed enough for now, given you plenty to mull over ;)
Dirty Harry - October 31, 2006 10:44 AM (GMT)
KH: I loved KH for its simplicity and the nice storyline. It had wonderful music, but the gummi ships were too simple and the fighting got bland after awhile. The replayability was kinda bad as well; I lost interest after I'd finished it.
COM: Wonderful music, as usual. The battles were more intensive and I was impressed with the depth with which you were forced to fight on. Definitely the hardest of all the Kh Games.
KH2: I loved the Roxas part like Amaya but a lot of the other things like the rest of the storyline became a bit meddled. New worlds had storylines that were alright but some of the older ones were a bit hmm...I especially was disappointed with the PotC cutscenes which seemed to lack the depth and engaging of the movie.
Music was still good, though arrangements of PotC are to be complained about again. Loved the nerw valor forms and all, and the triangle button adds a new sense of challenges. Proud, at the start seemed a bit overwhelmingly hard, but after that it started proving to be a pushover (ie. after I levelled up a bit. Guess how many times I died against Axel in struggle match? 5 times. Yes I was swearing. But then, like I said, it gets easier. I agree with Amaya-it is a bit of a disappointment. I'm hoping they release the Final Mix in US (so I cna somehow pirate it over :D) and get the CoM remake for PS2. :D
Alantie - October 31, 2006 03:30 PM (GMT)
Bleh. I agree with you on the PotC level DH. That one was horribly disapointing! The graphics somewhat sucked, compared with the rest of the game. The story was chopped and was so boring. . . there really wasn't much to do there. I did not enjoy it much at all. *pouts in disapointment*

Alantie - December 13, 2006 09:24 PM (GMT)
Meh, I didn't think he was so bad. Now Xaldin, there's an arse whooping! He killed me like, three times, and only Mickey saved me.
Dirty Harry - December 14, 2006 02:08 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I had the same problem. I'm playing all on Proud, and I'm a bad gamer, and I didn't equip Once More. So I was too low in level and ended up dying...:(
Alantie - December 14, 2006 04:34 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I think I'm an okay gamer, not really bad or good. That's why I play on normal mode first, to get the hang of things. I also really hated fighting the Hydra, because every friggen time Phil screamed "GET ON THE HYDRA'S BACK!!!" I wanted to slice HIM instead. :D
Dirty Harry - December 15, 2006 07:52 AM (GMT)
Lol.
Hydra was easy. Got owned.
Saix is annoying. Easy too.
Alantie - December 15, 2006 03:49 PM (GMT)
I can't remember his name. . . the gambling guy. With the cards. He was friggen annoying. Easy though. :P Hehehehehehe. I'm interested to see how you do with the last few fights. *waits for DH's report*
Dirty Harry - December 17, 2006 03:02 PM (GMT)
Ahh! Yes!
Hmm...let's see.
The Gambler was annoying. (Luxord)
The City was piss easy. Slashing skyscrapers is fun.
Xemnas #1 is easy.
Xemnas #2 was annoying.
Xemnas#3 inside that area that's all grey and white pissed me off. His shadow killed me when I was Riku. I forgot to use Dark Aura to drive it back. :(
Alantie - December 18, 2006 04:09 PM (GMT)
Lol, I know what you mean. The black and white area as Riku totally got me killed the first time, because I couldn't get rid of the shadow <_< But once you know what to do, its really fun ^_^
Didn't Xemnas remind you of Darth Vader at that part?
Dirty Harry - December 19, 2006 01:50 PM (GMT)
Hm...the part where he has Sora in a chokehold?
Riku is SOOO weak!
Alantie - December 19, 2006 04:43 PM (GMT)
 No silly!! Well, yeah, kinda. I was actually reffering to his red lightsaber ripoffs. :D Xemnas wants to be Darth!!! And if you unscramble his name, it also spells Mansex!! Coincidence? I think not. *shudder*
Meh, I didn't think Riku was weak. He was about the same as Sora, not better, as a lot of his fans like to claim. The two make a good team. I love doing Riku's joined attack with Sora!!! *pwns all foes*
Lutearina - December 19, 2006 08:43 PM (GMT)
Pshaw. KHII I beat in two days, it was soooo sadly easy. xDD
KHII was much harder. :P

Huh?
Riku is weak! Really weak! Their limit is probably the best in the game, and it's still pretty weak...the only good thing about limits is invulnerability for a period of time. Like Donald's flare, for example...
Alantie - December 20, 2006 04:54 PM (GMT)
What are you smoking?! :P It was probably the best limit in the whole game!! Not to mention the coolest looking! I used it whenever I could because it deals SERIOUS damage. Does DH not like Riku? :giggle: I thought he was pretty decent. I certainly liked Riku a whole lot better in this game than in KH1. He was a turd in that game. I mean, honestly, are you going to belive some lady with horns who looks like Satan or your best friend you've known your entire life? Gee, that's a toughie . .. .
Dirty Harry - December 21, 2006 02:23 AM (GMT)
The Satan Lady. :P
Don't like Riku...he is so weak!
He only takes off about one bar of damage! I could do the same amount of damage in one combo! :D
Alantie - December 21, 2006 04:29 PM (GMT)
*shakes head*
I rest my case. You don't like Riku. :P IMO, he kicks booty, but enough about that. . ..
I loved the Pridelands, didn't you? It was SO much fun to race around as a lion!!! :D I play that level over and over and over again!!!
Dirty Harry - December 22, 2006 02:35 PM (GMT)
Lol, yeah it was really fun! It's the best place to level up, did you know?
Alantie - December 22, 2006 06:03 PM (GMT)
No I didn't know that! Really? Hmm, no wonder I spend so much time there! :P I was disapointed though that you couldn't drive there. That would have been so neat, to see a Final Form Lion Sora!!! *is excited*
I wish the level had been a bit longer. It would have been so awesome! I hope the Pridelands are around again for KH3!!
I'm also hoping they bring Neverland back for it too. I loved Neverland in the first game- mainly because you get to fly. :D
Dirty Harry - January 21, 2007 02:12 AM (GMT)
Did you see the secret ending? It was really crap. <_<
Alantie - January 22, 2007 03:46 AM (GMT)
Why do you say that, out of curiousity? I'd like to discuss. ^_^
The only thing that annoys me about the Secret Ending is the fans' reaction to it. <_< "OMG!!! New Characterz!! No more Sora!!!" You can't have KH without Sora, dingdongs!! *sigh*
Dirty Harry - January 22, 2007 03:25 PM (GMT)
Huh? There were new characters? Wha...? In that case, if there's one I haven't got, I feel jealous.
Alantie - October 2, 2007 09:05 PM (GMT)
Alrighty my KH fellow fans. It has recently come to my attention that there are THREE new KH games being released. Having got this info off the KH Ultimania, I assume its correct- but then, I can't read Japanese, so I have to rely on the translations of others.
1st game: KH: Birth by Sleep for the PSP
2nd game: KH: 358/2 Days for the Nintendo DS
3rd game: KH:Coded for the Mobile
It appears that there is a new enemy as well as new characters (shakes fist). We have the Soulless. I have not a clue who they are, so don't ask. There is also apparently a 14 Org. member, but it is not Namine. From what I understand, 358/2 Days is about Roxas' time in the Org. and happens before KH2. Coded seems to be explaining what happened to Mickey and Riku while they are in the darkness, and while Sora was asleep during CoM. I still haven't figured out what Birth by Sleep is about, but it from what I can gather, you get to play as a new character named Terra or something.
So, what do you guys think about this? Think that maybe Square has gone a bit too far? Extremely excited? Someone talk about it with me/share what you know/theorize, anything!!!
Existence: DENIED - October 8, 2007 09:23 PM (GMT)
Why is it called KH: 358? D:
Square is going way too far with all these sequels, remakes and spin-offs, imho. >_>
Alantie - October 9, 2007 04:03 AM (GMT)
It's called 358/2 Days because it follows the story of Roxas and his time in Organization XII. I think 358/2 refers to the number of days Roxas actually existed apart from his orignal self.
And I totally agree with you- I think they are going way too far with these sequels that could easily be fused in with the original storyline.
The one that has me particularly upset is BBS though. It won't even be staring Sora as Roxas- the main character is some person named Terra, and as far as I can tell, you see Sora and Riku when they are 5 and 6.
Honestly, it ticks me off. Sora IS KH. How can you have this game without him as the main character?
*goes off to sulk*
