Title: Ask Link
Description: The ultimate advice column!
CrazygurlMadness - July 22, 2006 05:28 PM (GMT)
Evening (or morning, or afternoon, of whichever), this is CM.
After much coaxing, eyelash-batting and Zelda threatening, Link --yes, the Hero of Time himself-- has agreed to post in a topic where he can answer all your questions, from "why does the nose bleed?" to "what is the meaning of life?", and he even promised
No, I did not!
Stop interfering, Link. You have your own profile. Use it, and stop typing over my shoulder.
And get your own laptop, for heaven's sake.
As I was saying, he even promised to
I DID NOT.
Oh, for pete's sake. So what if you didn't promise? They're going to ask you personal questions anyway. You may as well answer them.
No, I may not. I agreed to do this stupid thing of yours, but I refuse to answer personal questions. You can torture me for answers, but I will not answer. I will deliberately ignore
Yeah, we got it, now get off my shoulder.
Anyway. Go on right ahead, everyone, and ask Link.
(REMEMBER: ANY SPAM WILL HAVE THIS THREAD MOVED TO THE SPAM FORUM, AND THAT WOULD SUCK. KEEP YOUR MAILS ON TOPIC AND DON'T SPAM OR MULTIPOST. THAT WOULD MAKE THE JOB MUCH TOO HARD FOR LINK TO ANSWER. THANK YOU!)
Link - July 22, 2006 05:33 PM (GMT)
Hello, everyone. This is Link. As CrazygurlMadness brutally expelled me from her basement, I obtained a laptop for an exorbitant price at the Bazaar (shame on you, CrazygurlMadness), and so have created an account here.
So go on and ask questions. Except of the personal nature, as in, pertaining to my personal life. I refuse to answer those... I can answer questions about your personal life, however. That would be sure to entertain me.^_^
Oh. Emoticon. <_< I think I'm appreciating this one. It looks nice and suspicious.
And a bit annoyed. <_< <_<
Lutearina - July 22, 2006 05:35 PM (GMT)
Dear Link,
I have a very important question for you! I was talking with some of my friends, and they were *gasp* obsessing over yaoi. I realllyyyy hate yaoi, and was wondering what you think about yaoi. I don't care if they like it, but they keep trying to get me to like it! It's very annoying, and I find yaoi to be....well....sick. ^^;;; So I would like to know your thoughts on yaoi, like what you think of it.... and what I should do to get them off my case.
Sincerely,
Lutearina (A.K.A. Rachel :P)
Oh, poor Link....Already a yaoi question.
Link - July 22, 2006 05:45 PM (GMT)
A brief account of Link's history with yaoi:
Link (that's me) once stumbled onto a fanfiction site and found a Link times Ganon story. Wondering if perhaps that would be an epic tale of Link's fight against Ganondorf, the king of evil, Link clicked on the (pun not intended) link.
I think the scream that echoed in all of Hyrule that day sounded like " :o   :ph43r: YYYYAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Let's just say that I would not have any type of intercourse with Ganon. My only relation to Ganon is one of hatred.
Let's also mention that I myself am very much in love with... well, women, I suppose. Not men.
Bearing that in mind, I think that it is up to every other male in question to boldly state on what side of the line their sexuality stands. Men should just speak up, as I have. As they say, silence is agreement. Perhaps their silence is a sign that they approve?
Or perhaps it's simply that they have been bound and gagged so long by cruel yaoi fans that their vocal chords have atrophied. I would not put it past consideration, if I were you.
Anyway you look at it, yaoi is a matter of choice: if you like it, good for you and stay away from those who don't, lest you terrify them with your antics.
And as per getting them off your case, just ignore them. It may be immature, but it is sure to make them go away. They should learn to respect your tastes as you should respect theirs, and then you'll both live happily in seperate worlds of varying degrees of joy.
Lutearina - July 22, 2006 05:53 PM (GMT)
Thank you Link. ^_^ I'm glad to hear your thoughts! and your scary experiences. I'll take your advice. Thanks again! I'll definitely come for help if I need it again. :)
Dirty Harry - July 23, 2006 03:12 PM (GMT)
Link, I was wondering, what kind of life do you live in Hyrule? I mean, like, the normal, everyday life you lead when you're not going around kicking ass? It makes us a bit curious...
Link - July 23, 2006 05:03 PM (GMT)
Ah. Yes. I will answer you. ^_^
One might think I have a great number of hobbies, but, in truth, when I am not doing some world-saving and adventuring, I sleep.
Yes. It is as simple as that: I sleep. Just as you would if, day in and day out, you sprinted across Hyrule field trying to fulfill your quests in time, battling countless evil foes and gathering innumerable (and quite heavy) items that you have to carry around on your back.
You would sleep too, my friend, if your only other sustenance was milk and magic beans (nutritious, but slightly redundant).
I function thus: I spend all my energy in one go, then sleep for five days straight to charge up again (much like the average charge-up battery, Battery vulgaris), and then it's already time for me to go and save the world again. -_-
Of course, I sometimes get up to eat, answer people, and interact with, ahh... close friends (one close friend in particular, not that it's anyone's business. Ahem), but mostly, I sleep. Where I sleep varies on where I last teleported to. For example, I can sleep in my minuscule Kokiri bed as well as sleep on the Temple of Time's front steps (not quite as comfortable).
Yes. That's about it. I sleep.
Any other questions? :)
Paladin's Heart - July 23, 2006 05:26 PM (GMT)
Hello, Link! ^_^
The question I am going to ask you is actually a very widely debated topic amongst all of us. It's actually a very hot topic in these forums of ours. On those countless journies (or 'journey'), I'd like to know your thoughts on the Princess' alter ego, Shiek ('s), gender.
To put it simply, do you think Shiek is a guy or a girl?
P.S: And since when did you get such a large vocabulary? It's a nice change from all those battle cries.
Link - July 23, 2006 06:47 PM (GMT)
Hm. Sheik. -_- I'll admit I thought he was a transgender from the start, but then again, Impa looks pretty manly, so I assumed it was a Sheikah thing.
I'm not exactly sure whether Sheik is a man or a woman, actually. He (or she) spoke in a very lyrical way, with a very mellow voice. It'd be tough to determine on which side of the fence he (or she) stood. All I know is that Sheik was a disguise for Zelda and that Zelda is (you have my word of honour) a woman.
I prefer to regard Sheik as a disguise for Zelda more than as a seperate entity. Sure, he (or she) had his (or her) own thoughts, and used talents which Zelda only mastered to a basic level, so the disguise was more than skin deep, but overall, I believe that it was a genderless costume.
Kind of how you humans celebrate this Halloween night. One might dress as a vampire, but it's up to everyone else to determine whether it is a male or a female vampire. You can choose to base yourself off the gender of the one wearing the costume, or you can choose to think it is a completely different entity.
It's all up to your own perception. I'm sorry if I'm not solving the debate.
As per my vocabulary, let's just say that the fact that I'm not talkative does not impede on my communication skills. It just annoys Navi, and that alone is enough to justify my silence. :P
Keep asking. I'm getting the hang of this.
Dirty Harry - July 24, 2006 12:56 AM (GMT)
Hmm...Link, where do you find the time to use a laptop to answer our questions between sleeping, interacting and eating?
And as well, what do you think when you're out killing random dudes (monsters)? Do you think"Whoopee let's kick ass" or "How sad, something's dead" or something totally different?
Link - July 24, 2006 01:20 AM (GMT)
Well, perhaps now you understand why I was so upset with CrazygurlMadness. Her requests impede on my sleep time.
As for my emotions while killing, frankly, it depends on the foe. If it's really annoying (i.e. redead or likelike or anything very painful but easily destroyed) I'm relieved to see them go.
If it's something more challenging (i.e. Gerudo swordfighters, Iron Knuckles, big bad bosses, or anything tougher to defeat), I'm excited with adrenalin, and then I'm relieved to see them go.^_^
I get all pumped up and twitchy when I'm about to step into a boss chamber. My insides twist up, I get all anxious and determined  , and then I go in and do my usual hero thing. It's great fun, though it should not be attempted by amateurs. Might get you killed, and all. I'm a professional, remember?
Alantie - July 24, 2006 02:51 AM (GMT)
Dear Link
I was wondering while you were browsing around in fanfiction land, what you thought of all those stories out there that pair you up with Mary Sues. Do they frighten you? ^_^ Oh silly me, the Hero of Time fears nothing! But please, be so kind as to answer my question.
~Alantie
P.S. As an afterthought, what kind of fanfiction WOULD you like to see written about yourself?
Dirty Harry - July 24, 2006 02:25 PM (GMT)
I wanted to add to Alantie's question; what does it feel like to be without a known family? Or do you have one...in secret? and with who? :P
Link - July 26, 2006 11:00 PM (GMT)
Ah, fanfiction. I'll admit I don't have much time to actually look at it (on account of my day job and sleep habits), but I'll admit it's very entertaining.
I'm not exactly the kind to get upset about disturbing accounts of "social" encounters between myself and any other female (or male, at times  ). More often than not, what you call Mary Sues are disappointingly predictable and their stories make me seem like some perfect, heroic man.
If it so pleases the fans, by all means, let them have their fantasies. :D
To be quite honest, there is no type of fanfiction about me that I enjoy more than any other. Aside from those depicting me as a stupid nose-picking vegetable (which I find untrue and annoying), most fanfics will be entertaining, and, at worst, humorous and worth laughing at.
As per my family situation, I'd like to mention that I am blatantly going to ignore your insinuation about any possible founded family of mine. Not that there is any. Yet. But that is none of your business.
Although I must say that the concept of family is something that can be interpreted. I am not exactly an orphan. Yes, don't get me wrong, my parents are dead, and they are not coming back, not with all the magic in the world, but that doesn't mean I'm without a family. My parents' death doesn't make them any less parental to me. It's just that they weren't around for a while.
Still, it isn't as though I popped out of the ground. I did have parents.
Family does not have to be limited to blood either. For instance, Saria is a close friend, almost a sister to me. I mean by this that I can love her as a sister and not share the same blood as her. And Darunia, though a rowdy friend, shares a form of intellectual and respectful brotherhood with me. To name but a few.
Family is really what you make of it, so, in that sense, I am not without a known family. I do have one. It's just not quite as conventional or typical as most. ^_^
Dirty Harry - August 1, 2006 03:12 PM (GMT)
Hmm...here's a weird question. Have you heard of Cloud Strife? Recently, polls showed that you were considered hotter than Mr. Strife- what was your reaction, views and comments on the issue?
Link - August 2, 2006 02:58 PM (GMT)
I've heard of Cloud Strife, yes. Charming fellow. A bit withdrawn, but he's a good man. He and I once debated fantasy games together, though it was a short conversation (I had to catch up on sleep and he had some deliveries to do, or something like that).
As for our "hotness", I must say I'm badly placed for any comment on this. It's flattering, of course. It's always pleasant to be considered attractive by a large number of people.
But since this debate is difficult to analyze from my point of view, I asked an outsider, a friend of mine, female, btw, for her opinion. After discussing it for half an hour, we concluded a couple of facts that might explain my victory over Cloud Strife in the attractiveness department.
- The level of resolution of the game Final Fantasy VII and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (3D reference) are sensibly the same, but Cloud Strife's hair (this is not my material. It is Zeld--um, my friend's) was not as realistic as mine. He was also surpassed a couple of years later by Squall from FFVIII and Tidus from FFX, whose graphical appearance were vastly improved and threw Cloud's resolution into shadow.
- Cloud Strife appeared only in a limited number of actual Final Fantasy games. Other main characters, such as Squall and Tidus, for example, have also perpetuated the franchise, whereas I have always been around as the sole main character of my franchise, since the very beginning. This is also the reason my graphical definition has improved and not remained as it was.
- If one brings up "Advent Children", in which Cloud Strife received a physical makeover the likes of which made him a contestant against me, I'd like to mention that it was a movie strictly for insiders of the FFVII series. If an outsider, such as myself, were to try and understand what, in detail, everyone is talking about, I'd have to watch it multiple times and read up on the subject. In that sense, though AC was physically impressive, it was reserved for a specific, initiated audience. Thus, more people would know about me than about Cloud's new look.
- Also, it does not seem that Cloud is on the road to evolution, whereas I will (hopefully) never stop changing.
I believe this is what helped in making me the "contest winner", though it is also probable that Legend of Zelda fans across the globe just want me to win more. They've done it in other instances, and they'll do so again, as long as I continue to be on their gaming lists.
Alantie - August 2, 2006 05:06 PM (GMT)
Dear Link
As you are probably aware, many in the LoZ fandom seem to have developed the mistaken impression that the fair Princess Zelda of Hurule, is weak. What is your opinon on Zelda's strength, whether physicall, emotional, spiritual, whatever?
Thank you very much!
~Alantie
P.S. On hotness, you and Mr. Strife are tied in my book, unless Twilight Princess does anything to change that! ;)
Link - August 2, 2006 07:52 PM (GMT)
:D At this point, I am not at liberty of revealing any details regarding Twilight Princess. Let's just say you're going to enjoy the ride.
I'm a bit uncomfortable discussing Zelda like this. She tends to be all-knowing where talk of her is concerned (Triforce of Wisdom and everything).
I can, in any case, specify that Zelda is not weak. She's quite headstrong once she puts her mind to something. The Gossip stones know a bit about that.
I believe this perception of her weakness is based on the fact that she gets kidnapped by Ganon or put under many spells (courtesy of the same nasty evil king) from which only I, the Hero of Time or whichever, can save her.
However, the problem does not reside in the fact that Zelda doesn't know how to defend herself (quite the contrary, I found out), but in the fact that she tends to get immersed in a moment so that she can lose some of her usual perceptiveness. This does not make her dim. Actually, it's a proof of how vital and real she is.
If you had recurrent dreams which you knew foretold a great calamity that would befall your land, you'd try to enjoy every moment to its fullest too.
Zelda can be a bit naive when it comes to finding a solution. I'll give you that. But she usually comes around at the right time and when she does, let me tell you, she gets down to business.
And when that happens, be glad you're not her business. -_-
I thought that Zelda's true strength had been revealed in the game Super Smash Brothers (Melée). Of course, she wasn't the quickest, but if you wore a dress like hers, you wouldn't be either (no, I don't know this from experience).
Zelda is an accomplished spellcaster, a keen prophetess and a determined ruler. She always seeks what is best for her people and is well-loved.
She is also very beautiful.
I'd like to say the sentence above was written by Zelda herself. She must have felt that I was writing about her. She is currently giggling above my shoulder and saying hi.
And saying that she'll kick the backside of anyone who says she's weak. ... That's unladylike.
Dirty Harry - August 3, 2006 01:50 PM (GMT)
Hmm...yes, we are afraid.
What kind of music do you listen to? Just curious.
And-how do you view other "Pairings" with characters of the LoZ universe?
Link - August 3, 2006 04:53 PM (GMT)
Music? Hm...
Well, I know this might sound as if I'm being "patriotic", but I really enjoy any orchestrated version of the Legend of Zelda soundtracks. Especially the remixes one can find on the net. Some people out there have real talent.
If you were looking for an adherence to a band in particular, I'd have to go with the Indigo-Go's. They're jazzy and relaxed. Then again, I don't know many other bands. I'm not as in touch with your world. I only know it thanks to this (highly expensive --shame on you, CM!) laptop. Do remember that.
And now, I am wondering how to approach the subject of pairings without revealing too much about my personal life (which, if you'll recall, is no one's business but mine. And someone else's. Ahem).
I suppose you're referring to the majority of LinkxMalon, LinkxSheik, LinkxMarin, LinkxSaria, LinkxRuto, LinkxNabooru, Linkx(anyone). Let's just say that I respect all these people I'm "paired up" with. But sometimes love just doesn't come that easily.
Look, I'll just go one by one.
LinkxMalon: Malon is a good friend. She's a fun companion and she's always cheerful. Of course, I care for her. But Malon has this dreamer quality that is kind of exasperating sometimes. All that wishing for white knights and everything. I should introduce her to the captain of the Royal Guard. Maybe she'll realise how futile it is then. :P I suppose there's no real reason to "eliminate" her but... Well, romance just never happened.
LinkxSheik: Well, as I said, I still haven't defined whether Sheik is a man or a woman. Either way, he or she is a disguise for Zelda. And I'm not getting into that, so don't even try.
LinkxMarin: Well, she was a dream. At first, I thought she was Zelda. But in retrospect, I think she reminds me of Malon more. See above.
LinkxSaria: Saria doesn't age. And she's the one who raised me. That's two reasons for which that's just wrong. I love her, but as a friend only. There are some things that are sacred and should stay that way.
LinkxRuto: Not long ago, Ruto and I were sitting back and enjoying a drink, and we were remembering her childhood crush on me. We're just friends now, though. We agreed that our first encounter resulted in a mutual service. I save her, she gives me what I need. Don't worry, though. I gave her the Spiritual Stone back once Zelda and I were done with it. So it cancels out and everything. Still, we had a good laugh. ^_^
LinkxNabooru: Nabooru is an acquaintance, more out of necessity than anything. We get along well and everything, being born fighters and all. But still. She's a Gerudo, and a lone wolf at that. Gerudos don't attach themselves to men. Sometimes she hints at attraction, but it's really more teasing than anything.
Linkxanyone: Leave the fans to their own devices. There's only one person I care for and that's... none of your business. ... This is getting tough.
Keep asking.
Dirty Harry - August 6, 2006 09:45 AM (GMT)
Have you lost your virginity yet?
And what kind of exercise do you do? Besides swinging a sword? And killing?
Link - August 6, 2006 03:50 PM (GMT)
As per exercising, I hardly do. I'm a natural at a lot of things. My stamina's pretty good, on account of my strange compuction to run around Hyrule field instead of walk. I can't explain it. It's like I constantly get nudged to move faster. ... I can't really explain it.
So anyway. I'm good on the cardiac side and my legs are developped enough to keep up.
Where musculature is concerned, I basically hone the muscles I need. Left arm for sword, right arm for shield... I do a couple of exercises to help me hold onto cliffs and pull myself up, so my whole upper body is strong. I also practice flexibility, for roll attacks and evasions.
I'm not built up, though. I'm just strong. I don't think muscles have to bulge with every movement to actually be powerful. Besides, if I'm not too built up, people (especially enemies) underestimate me. It's always an advantage.
I think the most difficult part of it is keeping my overall weight low enough that it's still easy to move fast.
So that's it in a nutshell. I generally make sure to be in good enough shape that I can just hop into a new adventure effortlessly.
As for your first question... I'm not going to answer you. Just bear in mind that I'm a healthy young man who has nothing better to do between adventures than sleep and who has tried to gather as much experience as possible in most fields. So you answer that yourself.
Next question? B) (Why do all questions revolve around me? :ph43r: Am I really that fascinating?)
Alantie - August 7, 2006 01:06 AM (GMT)
Lol, yes my dear Link, you truly are that fascinating!!
Ahem, anyway, I wanted to know your thoughts about having a LoZ movie made. Would you be willing to do it? ^_^
And I'm wondering, how do you and Nabooru get along these days? Do you hang out? Does she try to steal your wallet, ending up in a fight?
Link - August 7, 2006 04:17 AM (GMT)
Well, thank you for the interest, I suppose. ^_^
In regard to a movie being made about what has come to be called "The Legend of Zelda", I must say I'm unsure of how a person might properly express the true atmosphere of Hyrule. This person would have to take into account the various elements that form an experience, and this includes all those strange moments and quirks of the people of Hyrule. I cannot imagine another way to portrait this atmosphere other than a game.
On the other hand, I'm not saying that it isn't feasible. However I cannot garantee that every single adaptation would do.
Another possible problem might arise in the sense that most fans have different perceptions of Zelda, Ganondorf, myself and other characters. It would be difficult to find an actor or actress to play their given role to a point where every fan is duly satisfied. Again, it is still feasible, but rather difficult to envision. For the movie to be "perfect", every actor would have to be "perfect".
Perhaps the most sensible way to ensure that fans are satisfied would be to release a movie rather like Final Fantasy: Advent Children. Computer graphics may be a proper solution to unify the fandom. However, this can hardly be accomplished by mere fans and requires a level of expertise and free time equivalent to a year at least.
Which is why I generally agree with Nintendo: there is hardly a sensible way to make a Legend of Zelda movie.
And yet, some fan movies are extremely amusing, provide a lot of distraction, and show some quirks of Hyrule that might have been overlooked by any major producer. So it's all a matter of perception, really.
I haven't seen Nabooru in a while, though. She's been busy doing whatever Gerudo women do whenever they don't look for Hylian men and aren't pillaging some village. Since I last defeated Ganondorf, she's been leading the Gerudo, so I suppose she's just devising some new ways to steal and wreck and spreading the word.
She has stolen my rupees many a time, though. To my shame, I only realise it when she's already a dot on the horizon. Well, you know how it goes. In my defence, Gerudo thieves are experts. I can't specialize in everything.
Anyway, I believe that to this day she has stolen exactly 56 297 rupees from me. :(
Some day I'll go to Gerudo Fortress for my money, but until then, I'll just keep an eye on the money I still have. She's sneaky, that woman. <_<
Dirty Harry - August 7, 2006 12:17 PM (GMT)
Speaking of fanmovies, have you watched the Legend of Link (Lol)? It's on the Zelda Infinite News (www.zeldainfinite.com I think). What were your thoughts on the movie?
Link - August 7, 2006 02:55 PM (GMT)
Yes, LoL was one of the fanmovies to which I was referring when I said that they grasped something about the Hyrule experience that most producers would have passed up on. ^_^
I must say the actors impersonating Ganondorf, Tingle and myself were most amusing, though the others playing multiple roles (Happy Mask Man, Zelda, Talon, Bill, "???", etc.) were just as talented.
I'd like to specifiy that pizza is a very human concept, however, and cannot be found in Hyrule. A pity, because I've heard it is the stuff of dreams (or maybe my source is sold-out).
And, between you and I, my favourite scene has to be the Milk Bar Latte scene. The others were also hilarious, but that one was a riot (and, according to credit bloopers, it was a riot for everyone :D ).
On the other side of the spectrum, there is also Hero of Time, I believe, which is due to come out in autumn. This movie is apparently far more serious than LoL, and yet it also seems to have captured a part of Hyrule. I will be sure to check it out and tell you my thoughts on the matter when I do. :)
Dirty Harry - August 8, 2006 09:47 AM (GMT)
I see. It's HoT.
Link, how do you feel whenever someone bosses you around?
Alantie - August 8, 2006 04:47 PM (GMT)
Link, I'd like to ask why you think the majority of the people you are closest too are female. Just something I realized the other day, you have way more girl friends than guy friends! Why do you think that is?
Link - August 8, 2006 04:48 PM (GMT)
I suppose when you say "boss around", you're referring to Ruto, Tetra, Niko and a couple of patronizing others?
Well, in the beginning it was unnerving. For instance, Ruto always trying to give me commands when I clearly knew what was best for her was a burden I could have done without. I'm not used to looking after people who are so completely helpless that they get lost the moment I turn my back.
Still, that issue was resolved eventually.
As for all the others since, I just let it slip. Sometimes I obey them, sometimes I don't. It all depends on whether I'm aiming for the same thing as them or not. If it works for me, I'll let them be bossy. More often than not, they can't physically force me into obedience, so I let them talk. If it makes them feel good, all the more power to them.
Frankly, bossy people can be annoying at first, but I usually grow to have an understanding with them. Tetra (or Zelda, actually) was a fine example of a rocky beginning with a smooth finish.
Perhaps they see that I end up doing as I please, and so they relax a bit.
If you don't mind me asking back, why do you ask? Do I seem like a submissive person? :D
As for the impressive number of girl friends I seem to have, well, I don't really know. I do have male friends, of course. People I worked along with (Darunia, Kafei, Ralph, Japas¯though admittedly he thought I was Mikau). But it seems to me that girls find it easier to become friends than guys do.
Maybe it's just my natural charm? :P
Frankly, I don't know. I've been asking a couple of the producers at Nintendo about it, and they haven't given me a very clear answer. Something or other about the fanbase.
Maybe they meant that at first, the game was supposed to interest a majority of males, which was why a high number of female characters was introduced, until Nintendo found out that roughly 50% of their fanbase (if not more) was female. Around that time, the number of male secondary characters began to increase significantly.
Still, your guess is as good as mine. I'm not going to complain about my current arrangments, though. ^_^
Dirty Harry - August 9, 2006 09:46 AM (GMT)
Which Link are you? I mean, there's the guy from OoT and the guy from TP, and then the one from Windwaker and...yeah...
Alantie - August 9, 2006 06:22 PM (GMT)
In addition to firefly's question, I'm curious: Are you the same Link through all the games? Meaning you are reincarnated? Because in WW Ganny certainly seemed to think that Link was the same one from OoT. . . so confusing!! *clutches head*
Link - August 10, 2006 12:51 AM (GMT)
All right. I'll try to answer you both as simply as possible because this can get confusing fast.
Throughout the franchise, there are different incarnations of myself (Link, I mean). There was one, for instance, that started it all in Ocarina of Time, then went on and did Majora's Mask.
The next one, timeline-wise, would have to be the upcoming Twilight Princess' Link, since TP is set a couple of decades after Ocarina of Time.
Then, a hundred years after Ocarina of Time (which is my timeline start point, by the way), there is another Link born, for the Wind Waker.
And so on and so forth.
There are many debates regarding the timeline of the series, but frankly I never saw much of a debate there. Eiji and Shigeru (it's great to refer to them by first name. We're real pals, you know?) both agreed that there were different Links throughout Hyrule's history. They reiterated it during the E3 2005 Twilight Princess commented demo (you can see it just about everywhere online, cut up into many little videos).
As for me, I'm basically the sum and essence of all those Links.
The only reason Ganny (I love belittling that monster) mistook my WW form for my OoT form is because they look very much alike. You know. Blonde hair. Blue eyes. Pointy ears. Cute backside.
Not, of course, that I hope that Ganondorf (or Ganondork, as some more ironic circles may refer to him) finds that my posterior is cute in any possible way.
Dirty Harry - August 11, 2006 02:30 PM (GMT)
Who do you think, out of every game protagonist that you've met, could be a better hand-to-hand/melee combat fighter than you?

Actually, I've never really fought any of them, so it's difficult to judge fairly. I suppose the other most renowned swordmasters fall in the Final Fantasy category, though I suppose some Fire Emblem comrades might also hold out for the title.
Mostly, I'd have to say that the fighter closest to me in the proportion of sword handling and magic used would be Cloud Strife, though that's a debatable point.
It's rather difficult to separate and categorize protagonists. Just because they're good in one game doesn't mean they'd automatically hold out in another. Obviously, I'm unsure that I could deal with most Final Fantasy universes, and I'm sure that Cloud Strife would find horseback riding the worst trial he ever endured.
In truth, a protagonist is more than the sum of his combat moves. There is something that only I can do, and that is defeat Ganondorf. No matter how strong a sword fighter may be, I'm the only one with the Triforce needed to defeat him.
In the same vein, I don't hate Sephiroth nearly enough to be able to fight him properly.
In other news, I find that this :zelink: is very cute. Zelda loves it.
And I kind of like this icon myself: :link: . Not very representative, but amusing nonetheless.

:link: :zelink: for you then, O Great Hero of Time.
In the OoT Timeline, did anyone remember what you did during the reign of Ganon?
Link - August 12, 2006 05:10 PM (GMT)
Well, since Zelda sent me back in time to erase what Ganondorf had done, logically no one would remember, or they'd be scarred, and Zelda's attempts would have been useless.
However, Zelda did have a mild recollection of emotions that were related to the seven year jump. When I went into Termina, she did admit that she felt a stronger bond between us than just that of the "short time" we had spent together.
It is likely that the Triforce had an effect on her memories, and cannot be erased completely.
Many fans seem to resent Zelda for the fact that she sent me back in time and made the people of Hyrule forget whichever gratitude they may have felt for me. I don't view it that way. I wanted the best for Hyrule, and at the point where we were, it would have been difficult to heal all the wounds.
Zelda merely did what was the best for her country. We chose to re-write history. That means that in sending me back, she was erasing that older version of herself, I think. If anything, it shows how selfless she was.
But, you know. I'm a bit biased.
(What's the point of hiding my personal life anymore? You all pulled it out of me. Maybe CM was right. Dammit. <_< )

You mentioned Zelda loved this :zelink:
Does she love this? :link:

Yes, she enjoys most emoticons. :P
(Is blatantly evading the subject.)

Hi again, Link!
I'm quite sorry to hear that most people have been asking about your personal life, but gee, this IS a ZeLink forum, with all things ZeLink and Zelda. We'd just like to get to know you better, y'know what I'm trying to say? ^^;
Anyway, my question here is out of all the adventures you've had (Link's Adventure, Link to the Past, Wind Waker, stuff like that) Which one did you enjoy the most? And give reasons, please!
And it would be very nice if you can say hi to Zelda for me! ^_^

Yes. I'm still upset with CM, though, since she quite forced me to come here. The people are nice, but CM...
I just asked her if there was a way to make her be quiet, for once. She pointed me to the last person who posts wins thread. I intend to defeat her. Eventually.
I'll just wait until she least expects it.
I would like to keep my favourite adventure under wraps, though, seeing as how one of my best is coming up. ;) Not to be too much of a tease, but you'll see what I mean when we get there.
TP nonwithstanding, I have to say that as far as fun in an adventure goes, I'd have to go with Majora's Mask. Weird, you might say, but it really was fun. What kid doesn't like to dress up, right? I got to become a Goron (with the really cool roll attack) and a Zora (with those slick boomerang fins) and I got to explore a really varied world...
I mean, there were a lot more humourous moments in Majora's Mask than in any other adventure of mine. Really. Some were downright creepy (Happy Mask Salesman... strange fellow), but a lot were rather funny, you know.
Let's face it: I ran around in a forest with monkeys, I saved one of those monkeys from a crazed Deku king, I bottled up a princess, I glided around with heli-flowers, I enjoyed some hot springs, I rolled around in a super powered Goron wheel, I had a Goron race, I had a doggy race, I pierced some aliens, I had a chase scene, I raced some beavers down a river, I played music with the biggest musicians I know, I rode a massive turtle's back, I infiltrated a pirates' lair, I danced in a music box, I chopped up some Garo, I literally went upside down inside the most puzzling temple I ever found... And so on.
Get my drift? Majora's Mask was fun.
If we're talking about self-fulfilling or rewarding adventures, though, Majora's Mask falls far behind after a lot of others.
But who cares? I'd do Majora's Mask all over again.
