Title: Children
Description: Couldn't help it. ..
Alantie - July 20, 2006 10:57 PM (GMT)
If Link and Zelda were ever to have children, what do you think they would look like? What would their personalities be? Names? How many? How would they be raised? I'm interested to see what you all thing about this!
Luna-Nayru - July 21, 2006 12:20 AM (GMT)
Ah, the good ol' "What would their kids look like?" topic. Love it. <3 This brings back some memories, because one of the first fanfics I ever wrote was one about Link and Zelda's daughter. It was horrendous, because I wrote it when I was nine, but I'm still fond of the idea. :D But I named her Kalila ("Kali" for short), which means "beloved" in Arabic. She looked as you'd expect her to look, what with her parents both having blonde hair and blue eyes. :P In terms of personality, she was a little bit of a firecracker, and since she was raised by Malon (this story was SO corny. Link and Zelda disappeared when she was little. XD) she kind of had her spunky edge, but still had that understanding, sweet side to her. So, yeah, Kali was a cute character, and fun to write about. ^_^
But nowadays, I see things a little differently. :D If Link and Zelda had kids, yes, of course by the obviousness of their parents' genetic makeup, we know they'd be blondes with blue eyes. In personality, I get the sneaking suspicion they'd be the fairly reserved, duty-driven types who weren't really sure how to kick back and relax every once in a while. That'd probably come from the royalty situation. So they wouldn't be your stereotypical blondes, but, what the heck, their parents weren't either. ;)
As for names... good question. XD If it's a girl, maybe Daphne. We can assume that Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule (the king from TWW) is related to Zelda in some way (I usually just go by the logic that he's her father), so that'd be a nice way to pay tribute to him. But then again, I'm not the greatest at this. :-P
Dirty Harry - July 21, 2006 06:09 AM (GMT)
Hmm... :D lol. Being a guy, I'm quite sure I'm one the men in this world that can't understand kids very well, and I admit that people criticise me on my social skils (or lack of mentioned skills).
Well, kids...I agree about the blonde hair and blue eyes...though it would be nicer to have a different eye colour; I was thinking of a triology where in the last part it's like...seven years or something...no wait, like fourteen years after Termina, and Link and Zelda hve kids of their own, but the mother or father of the kids wasn't Link or Zel. And you could guess what they'd be named...
In terms of personality, you could probably assume that their kids would be fairly quiet, owing to their parents having been through so much hardship. They would have a Royal upbringing, which would mean they might lack social skills in terms of conversing with a common person.
If it's a girl, it has to be Zelda. If it's a boy...well, think up of a name...like...hmm...I dunno. I can't think of names.
Alantie - July 21, 2006 04:40 PM (GMT)
Lol, no worries firefly, there are lots of guys out there that know absolutely nothing about children :D
Well, since we have no other relatives besides Link and Zelda to look at, we have to assume their kids will be blond and blue eyed, though maybe we'd get a kid with violet eyes, neh? That would look awesome! :D
As for names, their first daughter would have to be named Zelda, following the tradition of the royal family thing. For boys, I think Landon or Lance would be cute ^_^
I've always imagined Zelda and Link having a whole bunch of kids instead of one or two for some reason. I can just see Link having to give piggy back rides to half a dozen youngsters. ^_^

:o That is the cutest thing I pictured this month. There's no squealing emoticon, but ::SQUEE!!!:: :glomp:
If they ever were to have children, I'm somehow sure they'd have at least one shy, cute, well-meaning girl, and one determined, a bit rash boy. They're standard, and they're just exacerbated features of their parents.
Also, a bookish boy and a curious, mischievous boy or girl.
That's four and that's quite the handful.
Although it's really up to everyone to imagine their children, since the LoZ series is a very personal, immersive game: we all see it the way we want to see it. Rarely do fan mental images coincide, and that's okay.

We agrees with Crazygurls ideas. Puss in Boots nearly done...damn cpu for crashing on me, I hate trojans.
AmayaSaria - January 12, 2007 10:38 PM (GMT)
Oh my! I never replied to this topic!
....*laughs* Their children would be sososossoo adorable. A little boy, probably one that looks exactly like young Link. That would be cute! And for a little girl....I say we twist things up and make her look like Zelda, but with brown hair! Or maybe they could have a random child with black hair...
Still, their children would be cute/adorable/huggable no matter what!
Saphine - January 18, 2007 10:03 PM (GMT)
Blue is a genetic trait of green, isn't it? And it's recessive, too... so it's possible that, if one (or both) of Link and Zelda's parent's have green eyes, their kids could have green eyes. Or any colored eyes, for that matter o_O" it just depends on genetics, I guess.
Heck, I have hazel eyes and my entire family has brown eyes, except for my grandmother who has hazel eyes, too.
I think hair works the same way, too, doesn't it? :3 So we could make Zelinky's kids very different, if we thought it out well enough.
AmayaSaria - March 26, 2007 10:52 PM (GMT)
Hmmm...
What do you guys think would be good names for the kids?
...Tehehe. I'll never get over the mental image, Link and Zelda's kids would be just ADORABLE! =D
Alantie - March 27, 2007 02:24 PM (GMT)
Names, hmm. . . Maybe Landen for a boy. I've always liked that name, and it seems to fit a son of Link and Zelda to me. And we know the tradition of the royal family to name the first born princess Zelda. . . but lets say we forget that for a moment. Names. . . Isabella? Bella for short? *is Twilight obsessed* I think that's cute!! Or, maybe Arianna, Ari for short. ^_^
AmayaSaria - March 27, 2007 09:51 PM (GMT)
I like Ari, that sounds adorable!
For a boy? Why, it should be Cloud of course! hahaha  Hmm. For a boy. It would have to be something simple, because everytime I picture their kid, its always like a young, farm-boy Link. Hmmm. Edwin! =D
....Hahaha, I don't know, I don't have many ideas at the moment. ^^
JediNate - March 28, 2007 12:21 AM (GMT)
Names: I've always found shorter, simpler names to be nicer: Jay, Jason, Dean, Amos, Ethan... yea, you get the picture.
As for what they look like: bring out the Pundit Square! By dominant and recessive traits, their kids have to be blond. Unless you want to talk about a genetic miracle, which may actually be fitting...
But, anyone else ever picture a set of identical twins? (awee, they're just so cute and handsome!)
Alantie - March 28, 2007 01:55 PM (GMT)
Lol!!! Cloud, Amaya? :D I rather like the idea. . . rofl. But I agree with you, something befitting a small town farm kid, maybe not a real popular name for a boy, but still a nice one. Amos. . . I think that's a good one JediNate. How bout. . . um. . . Sam!!! Rofl. That would be too weird, Link and Zelda having a son named Sam.
Dirty Harry - March 28, 2007 02:58 PM (GMT)
Esmerelda! GO MY ALTER ZELDA! :D
AmayaSaria - April 2, 2007 12:14 AM (GMT)
I like the name Esmerelda! Its just so....Zelda-ish!...sort of XD
So. I really want them to have kids. -shoves Link and Zelda into a room- DON'T COME OUT UNTIL YOU'RE SURE SHE IS TO HAVE A BABY! D:<
....*ahem*
They're kids would be really cute, so free-spirited like Link/Zelda. ahhh. What about Epona? EEEE~! They'd teach their kid how to ride and fight and...OOOH its gonna be so cuteeeeeee~! =D =D
Wisdom_Triforce - July 23, 2007 01:57 PM (GMT)
I think they'd have two to three children. The first one would be a son that would be really into politics (he is the first to the throne), generally quiet, loyal and not a bad swordsman either. He's firm, though, and protective of his kingdom and younger siblings. And, to agree with others, his name really could be Landon. He'd be medium-sized built, blond-blue eyed (thanks to mom and dad). He'd probably be a by-the-book sort of person, always somehow whipping out a rule book or something like that. (*chuckle*) :D
The second child would be a son as well. He'd take more after his mother, in personality. He'd be generous, and willing to go to charity balls and sweet talk the women there into giving a donation. I bet he would sneak out of the castle to slip money into peasant's pockets. His name would be Sheen. (Don't ask, just came to me.) Sheen would be a happy-sort of person always willing to give someone a smile. Adores his little sister, but is firm when it comes to her protection and well-being. He'd be an average swordsman, but more of tactician believe it or not. :giggle:
The third child would be a girl, and her name would be Lisia. (liss-c-ah)
Unlike her brothers who are more mild, this one is rebellious. She enjoys sneaking away from lessons and out of the castle, wondering Castle Town in disquise. ( Only to have her brothers drag her home :giggle: ) But she is generally nice and cares for her people. Lisia just wants freedom. She knows how to weild a sword thanks to her other brother Sheen (she'd black-mailed him about his long-time girlfriend who was a peasant if he didn't. Hee.) And thanks to Impa, she'd gained some magic.
... Dear god, I see a story in the future. *groans*...All well, YAY!
Angel Zelda - July 23, 2007 06:23 PM (GMT)
I've never really thought about what Link and Zelda's kids might be like if they ever had any. But if they ever did have kids, I would think they would have two, a boy (the firstborn) and a girl (the second child). As for their personalities...well, I'll have to think about that.
HyruleMaster - July 25, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
I've always imagined Link and Zelda having a little girl. ^_^ Because I love the thought of Link raising a daughter. (The piggybacks... trying to tolerate girly stuff...) It would just be adoreable! She would probably have blonde hair, (duh), and look like her mother, but have her father's nose.... why the nose? I don't know. I'm not sure about the name though...
However, I've always imagined them having a son too. He would probably be the one to continue Link's legacy as the hero of Hyrule. Maybe he would have his doubts at first, but then something would make him gain the courage of his father. And of course he'd be huggable--he's Link's son! He would have blonde hair, (again--duh), and he would have Zelda's cheeks.
Then again... they could have twins! A boy and a girl! Though that would be somewhat of a handful, huh?
LZ Angel - July 29, 2007 08:51 AM (GMT)
I agree with a few of you guys - I love the idea of Link giving piggy-back rides. I can just see a little girl sitting on his back, telling him to go faster, him grumbling, and Zelda standing laughing to the side.
Link and Zelda's children would just be so cute! ^_^
:zelink:

Hmm kids... well as for looks, I think they're son would look just like Link or daughter just like Zelda since, geneticly speaking, Zelda and Link are a lot alike looks wise. The funny thing I think though, is that their child will be very active and adventureous even if they have a girl because the parents are, Link being the Hero of Time and all and Zelda a confirmed tomboy (as the gossip stone by her castle says).
The other funny thing I think is that if Link and Zelda have a girl, she'll be very spoiled. I imagine Link has a hard enough time saying no to Zelda in the first place, there is no way he could resist the big blue puppy eyes look of his daughter.
Twilight Mistress - April 8, 2008 01:55 AM (GMT)
lol Yeah. If they had a girl she would be more of a tomboy. She would be very wise and very strong.

I can't really add much to the genetics thing, I'm in agreement that they'd look similar to Mom and Dad. In fact, enough to maybe be mistaken for them.
I suspect their kids would be either or a mix of the two of their personalities: adventurous ( as others have said ), likely quite intelligent if Zelda's genes come into play, and outgoing. One may be a bit quieter ( like I imagine Link to be ) while the other possibly as friendly and outgoing as Zelda usually is.
Heh, I totally agree on the girl having the potential to be very spoiled: Link's a total sap for Zelda, let alone his own daughter with her. However in that case I would imagine Zelda being an efficient disciplinarian, she's a ruler after all. Frankly, I have a hard time associating someone raised by two utterly selfless people being able to turn into the opposite: selfish, what I usually would call someone I consider spoiled. ( Which is why I would never refer to Zelda as spoiled, despite her wealth )
Link and Zelda would likely be awesome parents in that regard, as they are both excellent examples: selfless, dedicated and determined not to mention brave and wise.

Yeah, their kids would would take on more than just the adventurous additude. I think their daughter would be more likely to abosrb her mother's desire for knowledge than their son would be though, he'd just want to go out and have an adventure like his dad. But clever Link would fix that by pointing out that books and such, for one, contain examples of other awesome adventures and teach you importent things all adventures should know.
As their children would be the future ruler of Hyrule, I think Link and Zelda's first priority would be to make sure their kids aren't horribly spoiled. Zelda and even Link would be able to prevent that and have their kids develop proper additudes fit for rulers, but I think Link would still spoil them on the little things. For example, I know Link would never let his kids shrug off their chores or lessons, but I think he could always be persauded to let them stay up for five more minutes for an extra piggy back ride.
gliderpilotgirl - August 5, 2008 09:03 PM (GMT)
Time to revive this topic! Going through the kid experience myself ( I'm in the late stages of my own pregnancy at the moment ) definately brings this to mind again.
It's fun, yet daunting: an adventure in itself. I could wish no better on our two heroes. They make such a lovely team, I think they'd make awesome parents.
Playing TP: I can't help but feel that TP Zelda ( who I consider more reserved and quiet than other Zeldas ) is an awesome view into how a daughter of Link might turn out. Archery skills, sword skills, hair tied back like one his caps to accompany the boots she is wearing not to mention ability on horseback...she reminds me of him.
Same goes for TP Link ( though I think he is a long-lost distant relative, distanced by time rather than TP Zelda's brother ) He seems more sensitive than OoT Link..more like WW Link, but grown up. Good with kids, loving and gentle...I can totally see Zelda's son being like him.
As for Link and Zelda themselves as parents, I see Link being very understanding to how sheltered and shut away Zelda was...and not enforcing that on his kids. Protective yes, but not so much that his kids would be shut away and unhappy. Due to his own lonely upbringing I can see him struggling a little bit if his kid is more extroverted, but I think he'd be a sensitive and loving dad. I see Zelda as also sensitive, but more about molding her kids into having as much heart as she does...again keeping them from becoming snobbish royalty. She may be the firmer parent though.
gr33n_sl33ves - October 3, 2008 11:19 PM (GMT)
Link and Zelda's daughter would totally have her daddy wrapped around her little finger. Their son, I think, would be more on the studious side. Basically a Momma's Boy and Daddy's Girl, because then they would be like their parents, just not the parent the same gender as they are.
And I've always fancied the notion that they would have twins, one boy, one girl. Can't say why, but oh well :P
(A bit on a tangent here, but Hyrule has always struck me as being a matriarchal society, rather than a patriarchal one, what with Zelda running the country in most of the games. Point in fact, Wind Waker and Minish Cap are the only games I can recall where a King of Hyrule was actively involved in anything. So in that regard, a female heir would probably be more sought after than a male one.)
