this has been bugging me, and i cannot see anything specifically prohibiting it, can a stealth suit or crisis shash'vre take a drone controller, and a hard wired drone controller? i don't see anything specifically prohibiting it, and they are different things, so i don't see why not.

Only if they are allowed to take them ( teamleader and the like ). But yes, it is possible for a suit to have four drones buzzing around - since a suit may use 2 drone controllers.

But what puzzles me is the drone's price: a drone is considered to be part of the limited gear ( you may not spend more than 100 points on this sort of equipment ).
So, do drones count to these 100 points or not? If they do then you have a problem ( since a pair of markerlight drones cost almost 100 pts ). Also this rises the question if any other suit ( that has no special access but carries a normal dc ) can even use the drones ( since they are part of the special access gear.

I hope I answered your question - but this also brought up my long-boiling one.

I have to disagree. Whatever the wording I am certain the intent is that they are the same thing functionally and can't be duplicated and it's just GWs shoddy editing.

BTW, if you want to go STRICTLY by the rules, a single suit could have 7 drones attacked to it.

2 for the drone controller
2 for the Hard-Wired drone controller
and then one each of Marker, Shield, and Gun drones.

The armoury lists the drones as separate entries so a rigid reading means they can be taken without a drone controller.

you cant be serious...this means my Shas'o can have 12 gun drones (4 from teh Controllers and 8 from the attack squad) which means hes even harder to kill...i hope GW sorts this loophole soon because 4 shield drones + iridium plates means the O is very hard to kill

Like I said, you have to be a real rules stickler. What ws meant is that your single drone controller can be taken as either a hard point or hard-wired and that drones can onlyu be taken with a controller.

I imagine the drones are included on the wargear list to indicate that their points do count toward your 100 point limit

I looked through my codex and one could argue about its meaning.

It says that you can not have the same gear twice.

Well, that's easy and understandable. But trouble is if you say ( like I do ) that hard-wired and non-hard-wired gear are not the same.

It might not make any sense having a target lock in both versions with you, but having 2 drone controllers surely could come in handy. So I say that you are allowed to have both types of controllers since hard-wired systems are to be treated different from non-hard-wired systems.

I still don't know whether GW made a mistake, put them there on purpose or what else they had in mind when putting the drones to the gear list they are right now.
If drones really count towards the point limit then it would be a tough thing if you ever intended to use drones. I always thought that drones would have their points count on whatever entry their controller comes ( so if you use a normal dc then their costs do not count on the limit, but those bought with hw dc do ).

There you can see that seemingly unimportant things can turn out to be pretty important and have great effects.
