In BFG its more of a scenario type thing for Tau strategies. I've read thru the rules, but haven't played. However, The Bait is a perfect Kauyon senario- enemy chases ship into trap. Surprise Attack might be a Mont'ka move-srike decicively and without warning.

Strenghts seem to be extremely hevy armament for dedicated warships, like Hero class, combining batteries, Nicassar vessels to cover your flanks, good bombers, arguably the best torpedoes, Railguns, and Tracking Systems,
Weaknesses are speed and maneuvarability-Merchants are nearly as ungainly as a battleship, boarding (though this is slightly made up for by the Kroot Warspheres) weak broadsides (sightly made up for by devastating Nicassar broadsides)

As for tactics, guard your flanks with Nicassar vessels, stand back and let your ordnance do much of the work, (use more torps and less Barracusa's- Mantas can handle themselves, and Barracudas are too slow to be good offensively. Use more Bor'kan explorers, and keep Barracusas back and intercept enemy ornance at the last moment) Use ramming in closer engagements to finish off enemy ships- a combination of deady frontal firepower and a ram can be deadly.

Close is good. The more detail you can see in your enemie's eyes, the easier it is to blast them out.

hi
i play Tau in BFG and 40k and ive played a few games of BFG against sum imps.

i have an explorer, 2 heroes, 2 merchants, 7 orcas, 6 defenders, 2 messengers.

the main strengthes for the Tau are their numbers because their ships are relatively cheap to reflect their clustered togethter fleet because of their inability to warp travel long distances.

they have the best torpedoes in the game being both faster, guided, and more numerous than any other races torpedoes.

tau will usually dominate any ordnance fight as long as they have an explorer which can shift out either 8 'tough' bombers or 8 torpedoes and 4 'tpugh' bombers.

heroes are the powerhouses being able to shoot 4 lances and 6 torpedoes. they are also the toughest ship with 2 shields.

disadvantages are that tau ships have very few shields usually 1 excluding mercenaries and the hero class.

they will nearly always be clsong on an enemy because this is where their gubs are best .

i gtg my boss si back ill be back on later tho.

Ive just stumped up the cash for a FW Tau fleet.

Id imagined them as using fighters, bombers and ordnace to break up formations before darting in to deliver hunting individual vessels.

Cool. The Tau ships are among the only attractive ones in BFG IMO.

If you want to discuss Tau in BFG that;s great, but you should really start a new topic. This one is more than 2 years old.
