how do you do it as gw spray primer eats the stuff, is there a special spray primer designed for polystyrene? does "smelly primer" melt it?

why dont you just take your paint brush and paint the foam with chaos black paint [or skull white]. that's what i would do.

i find if i am doing large things likehils i just cut the foam to shape then i plaster the whole thing and paint that it makes for a nice hill another good option would be to paint the hill in wattered dowen glue and put sand all over it and paint that
but that is just how i do it i am sure other people have tons of other good ideas so pick the one you like oo yes all spray paints wil eat your foam it's not the paint eating it is the propelent that eats the foam PS: an air brush could be used to spray your paint on if you wanted to do that -------------------- my photobucket page

I have had the same problems with foam and spray paint, and what i did was paint a layer of PVA glue on the surface that needs to be spray painted. PVA glue dries up almost clear and it will leave a thick hard layer, but its very thin, so it wont obscure details much. it seals the foam completely if you aply it properly, and it will make your foam models last i lot longer i think. otherwise you will have to do it all by hand i guess.

Not all spray paints melt foam. I have found a few cans that had no effect on it at all.
Naturally, I used all of it and don;t know what brands or anything, but do some experimenting on spare foam. -------------------- Once Upon A Midnight Dreary...

I used super glue on polystyrene when i was first getting into 40k to build a warp gate for chaos. Ive never felt so incoherrant in my whole life. Woke up the next morning with a pounding headache and bright red eyes. Not reccommended.

I just paint it with a thinned down mix of pva and water with a drop of dishwashing liquid and a small bit of paint. The dishwashing liquid reduces the surface tension, allowing better coverage and the paint lets you see what you've already covered. I then spray over this. I use the white stuff mainly as it's free and I get it in sheets (4'x2' 1-2" thick). I will be getting some of the blue foam as one of the guys at my wife's work is ordering some and has said he'd get a few more sheets for me (no charge).
The propellant in spray paint will eat polystyrene. The solvent in a lot of spray paint will also eat foam. |

Hello chromedog, and welcome to this site. For future reference please do not post on a topic that has not had a post in several months.
Yeah, its pretty common for the spray in a can to eat through foam, I have only seen one can that doesnt. I cant remember what its called but it was really expensive. --------------------
