Hello all. This is my first post here. I have to say that this is a nice resource for Tau players. I'm happy to have found you.

Anyhow, on to the fun. I recently read an article showing some neat ideas for converting Devilfish. The premise was to detail the interior, allow all the hatches open and close, and to allow the 'fish to become a Hammerhead or Skyray if need be. I figured I would give it a shot.

Here are some shots of the interior. You can see the rifles and grenades on the wall, as well as hand-holds I added along the roof above the benches.

Here are the side hatches. The hinges are drilled out and pinned, and the hatch secures with hidden magnets.

Here is the rear hatch, also secured with hidden magnets.

Here is the front. The burst cannon is interchangeable with the sensor array.

Because I am a masochist, I also drilled & pinned the top hatch. I haven't finished this part yet.

Oh, and just for fun, here is my magnetic Skyray turret.

Please let me know what you think! The exterior of the 'fish will be dark green with white trim, for those who are curious.

The first thing i want to say is: welcome to Kovash Tauva. The second thing is: WOW, really great work. The painting and convertion quality is really high and looks realistic. I was planning to do some magnetizing my suits, never thought of doing it so extensively with a devilfish. It looks really good and is really handy. If you can paint the outside as good as the inside, it will make a brilliant model.

Looks great.

I have been magnetizing my fish lately, but not as extensively as this.

Have you had any problems with magnetizing the seeker missiles on your skyray turret? I have found that mine tend to wobble and not stick very securely because I had to use such small magnets, I'm going to have to redo some of it.

Are you also magnetizing hardpoints to attach various wargear options? I am trying to add spots where I can attach multi-trackers and target locks and the like so my tanks end up being actually WYSIWIG, which will be a nice change.

First off, thanks for the warm welcome & positive feedback.

Now, on to business. I'm not planning on magnetizing any wargear for the 'fish, as my gaming group is just a couple of friends. We're pretty lax about wyswyg. Aside from that, i really don't care for the bits we have available for vehicle wargear anyway.

As far as the Skyray turret seeker missiles go, I have not had any problems with them being loose at all. The magnets are incredibly strong. If you take a look at the photo, you can see how I lined them up so the fin sits in the slot too. This not only stops them from moving from side to side, but the tight fit of the fin in the slot also helps them stay attached. The red is not blood, by the way. I use a smudge of red paint to remember the polarity of the magnets as I'm gluing them and it tends to get all over everything smile.gif

I also have 6 Crisis suits with fully magnetized hard-points. I initially used some larger magnets from a local electronics shop, but as my interest in the hobby grew I moved on to the smaller ones. I get mine from Gaussboys. (http://www.gaussboys.com/magnets/discs/)

I'll post some shots of the exterior once I get going on it. I'm not in a hurry, this is pretty much just a fun project I decided to undertake. I'm currently painting Plague Marines and installing magnets in my Carnifex. smile.gif

really nice, looks almost like the inside of a shuttle in ST:NG almost comfortable. Are the chairs/benches padded? laugh.gif

Great job! A lot cleaner looking (both the mod work and the painting) than my devilfish and hammerhead. I've also magnetized the Ion cannon and the rail gun for the hammerhead, and I am currently working up a 2nd turret for my fish. That way I can field 2 HH, 2 fish, or one of each. I'll post some pics later on down the road, as the turret I'm making is 50% green stuff.

For magnets I found that the best are the rare earth 3mm magnets, though I have just found that the toy magnetics has 2 magnets in each shaft that are a bit bigger (better for larger mounting areas, not for battle suits) but stronger too.

If you check out my DOW post, I have set him up with magnets too. Shoulder and under forarm magnet mounts.

Never thought about mounting points for vehicle wargear, will look at doing that too. now I just need to order a sky ray sprew.

Unfortunately GW isn't selling the skyray sprue separately yet. It's only available inn the skyray kit.

Sucks cause I got 3 hammerheads before the skyray came out that I can't modify yet.

One of my friends that works at GW says that they will be selling them as soon as the new online ordering system is completed. He says GW is going through some major changes right now. The market has changed so much, that GW has been forced to adapt.

Dude! Your attention to detail is amazing! Makes me dizzy wacko.gif . I love the work on the hatches. That little gridwork pattern is really nice. With the green lights inside and that creamy white, your ship looks unique. Please show your Plague Marines when they are painted. Plague Marines just warm my heart for some odd reason...
