i like the map, of course, and look forward to the underdark portion, but it is a bit annoying to have to scroll down each time you open or go to a page. ok...it takes a half a second to scroll down, but still! hehe

I've removed the map for to see how the header looks without it. Does this help with the scrolling?
Edit: The map has been placed in the Land of Irideth forum above the sub-forums for those who need to reference it -------------------- |

Remove the map.
Make a seperate thread for it so people can see it instead. -------------------- Make me immortal

So you like how it is now without the map? What do you think of where the map has been placed in the Lands of Irideth forum? Appropriate?

Appropriate, but I must admit that it's still in the way for me, personally. A nice single word banner thing would be good, just the real cool Irideth banner... the rest of that info should be on a board somewhere.

By the way - the link to Veghinix seems dead or certainly points to the wrong place, both in your siggie, Draggy, and in the bar over the advert...

The header link seems to work for me... The sig you speak of however... is missing an 'i'. Proper links that should work barring server errors: http://www.veghinix.tk http://www.freewebs.com/veghinix/index.htm Or if just heading to the Veghinix boards: http://s4.invisionfree.com/Veghinix/index.php ------- On topic, however, heh... I'm inclined to agree, most of the text could go into the announcements forum, and the admin team has a page built into the InvisionBoard structure. It would just be one less Page Down click when browsing. -------------------- |

Personally, I think that the tinggy would be best in the Announcement forum too...
And I take offense at being referred to as 'commoner'! -------------------- The Rules of Life:

Problem I find with putting it in announcements is that not everyone reads the announcements, so this way the important info is up there at the top of the page and won't be missed. That way, too, it's easy to get in touch with the board admins and what-not, and important topics which everyone needs to read can be posted up there. Sure it's an extra page-click, but when things get going it'll also be a good way to make sure important info isn't skipped over

But then, what's the point of the announcement forum?

The purpose there is two fold:
1. A secondary place to announce important announcements. Though not everyone reads the announcements, the same can be said for the header. The goal is that by having important announcements in two visible places, people will be sure to see at least one of them. Also, while announcements in the header will usually be brief, announcements in the forum can contain all the details without taking up tonnes of space on every page on the board. 2. The announcement forum will provide an archive for past announcements to where people can go back and check something out if they want clarfication, and I can reference them as needed by linking to the old topics. Make sense? -------------------- |

I sees, but I still don't agrees - it's not just pressing a page down button, I realise since my computer has been on the blink and I have no speedy internet - it also slows down the loading of *each and every* page, which is beginning to grate a bit... if it went to a vote, I'd clearly vote for announcements to be kept to the announcement forum - if people miss them, that's their problem. But putting a header like that up... it's... meh. I'm not in favour.
Aside from that, I have to just make sure you all know how much I adore Draggy and that it's not anything personal, and that there is muuuuch about this lil corner of the web that I lurve. -------------------- The Rules of Life:

Hmm, it shouldn't have to load on every page once it loads the first time. That sounds odd to me. Maybe there's a setting on your computer that's preventing it from "remembering" the header once you've loaded it the first time. I can understand comp troubles and slowness as I'm on dial-up a fairly messed up laptop (there's alot of odd things wrong with it, heh), but I have no trouble with it after the header loads the first time.
Hmm...are you using Internet Explorer? Or something else? I highly suggest Mozilla Firefox. I use it for all my general browsing and only use IE when a page requires a plug-in that Mozilla doesn't have access too. I'm trying to think if there are any other solutions that might help, but these few basic things come to mind, if you haven't tried them already: 1. Clean out your browser's cookie cache. Usually this can be done under Tools>Options 2. Clean out your browser's temp files. Usually this can be done under the same part of options as cleaning out the cookie cache. 3. Check for spyware/adware. If you have any, it can really kill your comp's performance. Ad-Aware (see also www.lavasoft.com) combined with Spybot S&D (see also www.safer-networking.org/) seems to catch most anything the web can throw at you. 4. Also scan for viruses. Housecall is a free online anti-virus scanner that uses Active X to scan your comp (requires Internet Explorer) and, if you desire, remove any virus it finds. Also check out AVG Anti-virus which is a very good program, and best of all...free! 5. Try Mozilla Firefox. It really is a safer, better way to browse the net and comes with a built-in pop-up blocker and tonnes of neat and useful options If you haven't tried any of those, check them out and see if they help any. Note that if you clear your temp files and cookie cache, the page will have to re-load the first time, but you'll also get rid of any spyware cookies that might have snuck onto your comp. Hope some of that helps. That aside, though, is anyone else having trouble with the header loading? -Draggy P.S. *hugs the Jea* Don't worry, I know it's nothing personal -------------------- |

This is what displays at the top of every forum page:
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND UPDATES: NOTICE!!! This is NOT an open RPG as of yet.* May 4, 2007 - I am declaring the Sril've Cress forum reopened after a bit of a hiatus from house leadership. All Cress members are encouraged to join in and start up some threads and roleplaying as we gear up to bring the House of the Shimmering Web back to EnWorld's ISRP! January 7, 2006 - Unfortunately, I must announce that the development of Irideth is on hold for the moment. I have started a new job which is taking up alot of my time, especially right now. Irideth will not close, nor will development stop. Please feel free to continue to post your ideas and feedback and I will reply as soon as I can. Thank you all for your continued support - Draggy If you have suggestions, questions, or comments about the Irideth Community, feel free to e-mail them here and I will be glad to address them. If you would like to be on the staff, also e-mail me at the above address. I can also explain more about Irideth Online at the above given address. All your needs should be directed there. Thanks! *The Sril've Cress forums are an exception. They are open for use by any Sril've Cress member! The forum password may be obtained from any Admin or Cress Admin. Dragona Nightsky (Draggy), Creator of Irideth WELCOME: Welcome to Irideth, an online message board community for role-players based around the 3e/3.5e DnD RPG system. We are currently under construction, but to give you and idea about us, read on. Irideth is a main (aka Material in the DnD cosmology) world campaign setting currently being developed, and that will be compatible with 3e and 3.5e DnD. Currently the lands are being mapped out and the history written. This campaign will be a very in-depth setting allowing for as much role-playing and character development as dice-rolling and monster killing. The forums themselves will be divided into two main sections (apart from the admin and discussion type forums): DnD style and FFRP style. DnD style will be straightforward; dice determines all and DM reigns supreme, in short. FFRP, for those not associated with it, stands for Freeform Role-play and is the system used on Wizards.COMmunity chat. It allows for players to play in the setting without the need of dice and to guide their character's destiny a bit more carefully. With good roleplayers, the system is very effective and allows for a wonderful degree of character development. The rules for both sections will be stickied in their respective forums once up. Any other questions, comments, or suggestions should be directed to my personal e-mail which is given above. I sincerely hope you enjoy the Irideth community and will visit frequently. Watch this header for announcements and important links, and please visit again soon. Sincerely, Dragona Nightsky Unless you have your display set to very high resolution, this covers the screen completely. When you switch pages, you have no idea it's succeeded till you scroll down. May I suggest a little tighter editing? You could always include links. "We are currently under construction, but to give you an idea about us, read here: [link]." |

I tried streamlining the header and shoving it into three columns instead of two to cut down on uneeded space. Please let me know if this helps Chel.
And the rest of you too! -------------------- |

Ah, this is much better. I like it now.
Nice to see some posting on Irideth, too! Oh, and, I want to be allowed into the Cress boards at some point; Jea has some talking to people to do. Erm, yeah, I have no better excuse. -------------------- The Rules of Life:

@the Header: Glad that's better for you guys!
@Jea: I'm not sure if Sev wanted to keep the forums Cress members only, but I'll prod him and if he says yes pass along the password. I'd give it to you now, but since that part of the board is a joint venture, I think I should let him have his say just in case -------------------- |
