Well this is just kind for me to kill Time. But if you want in go ahead basically If you know a lot about or read a lot about a fire arm post it here if you like
The XM-29 SABR (OICW)

The SABR (Selectable Assault Battle Rifle) system some times called the OICW (Objective individual combat weapon) is a 3 piece weapon's system designed to increase a solders fighting abilities. the main component is a semiautomatic self loading 20-mm grenade launcher (newer version may use 25-mm) the Grenades are smart rounds as in they can be programed to detonate at a specific distance via use of a laser range finder, this would allow a trooper to detonate a round over, after, before or upon impact with a target. Allowing a trooper much more control and effective fire power.
Component 2 is the KE or Kinetic Energy module. a modified G36C 5.56mm carbine ( in the last seen configuration ) it used a M16 30 round magazine and Pistol grip a side mounted charging handle had no manual sights of it's own and no stock. It did have a control switch that could switch functions from Grenade module to KE module and range to detonate. plus of course the KE's fire / safety switch.
the third module was the sight module it had a zoom function could be used as a night vision function and Laser range finder. it was the brain of the system.

to day the XM29 is in a frozen state due to it's size and weight the system was too much for use as it was so it was broken in too two separate projects with the possible recombination some time it the future. the first project is the XM25 this is the sight and grenade modules re-chambered to 25-mm and re stocked with it's own controls.
the second project is the KE module now known as the XM8

The XM-8



The XM 8 began it's life as the Kinetic Energy module of the XM29 Selectable Assault Battle Rifle. essentially a G36C with out sights stock and with a different Charging handle. however it is now a very different beast. first the Magazine and charging handle were Reintroduced. then the outer body was completely redesigned using the latest in polymer materials.

on to the upper receiver mounts a carry handle ( called the bridge) with a flip up rear iron sight and behind that a special Optical Red dot sight with Laser and inferred illuminator it comes in ether 1.5x zoom or 3.5 for the DMAR . or a 1913 adapter the workings include 3 versions of the cold hammered steel barrel. one 9 inch one for a compact carbine. most likely to be used by armored vehicle crews or for Close Quarters Battles. a variation could be used on a revamped version of the XM29.
the main version 12.5 inch for a baseline carbine this is the version that would be used in all situations. it can be fitted with a XM320 Gl or a Xm26 Light service shot gun module.
Lastly the 20 inch heavy for a Designated marksman/ Automatic rifle. This Might be A replacement for the venerable M249 SAW and be used as a light sniper rifle in urban combat. but is more likely too be used only when a SAW is unavailable.
For each barrel there are two hand guards for the compact carbine the main hand guard with PCAP mounting points for laser sights and flash lights using PCAPS or a shorter hand guard on to which a 1913 rail system can be added. for the Baseline, the main hand guard with PCAP points or the same short hand guard as the Compact but using a longer adapter. on too both can be added the XM320 manual loaded 40-mm grenade launcher that opens too the side instead of to the front. and for the DMAR the standard unit with or with out a Bipod.
four versions the the stock.
the primary is a five point collapsing stock. collapsing stocks allow the user to adjust it's length to the most comfortable position for there arm length and equipment.
the second stock is a variation of the first but it folds over this makes it better for paratroopers and armored vehicle Infantry
the third stock is a simple retractible stock with but cap for spec ops and vehicle crews
Lastly a simple but cap for what mission i don't know.
The XM8 has a Bayonet on the way allong with a sling and number of add on extras.

That's one ugly bayonet! Love the M8 reminds me of the G36 That's american pride right there! use an M9 and a M8

Update The XM8 got canned and the M9 is going out.

Currrent projects: HK is currently working on a massive upgrade to the M4 carbine called the hk416. the system uses the same gas operation as the M8 and G36.
as a M9 replacement the Future hand gun system is being worked on it will mostlikly be a HK USP tactical in .45ACP
