Funfair Brewing Company, was established in 2004 after a local man’s passion in real ale became a starting point for producing ale for the local community. David Tizard grew up in Ilkeston, and enjoyed many happy a year at Ilkeston Charter Fair, (the largest town fair in England), historically going back generations. This inspired him to call the first ever ale ’Big Wheel’. This proved to be popular with the public houses and local’s. The popularity of this micro brewery continued to grow and grow and David started to gain a reputation as a quality ale brewer.
Funfair Brewing Company has gradually grown and ales are now regularly available throughout the different ranges of pubs on offer in Ilkeston. During this short time Funfair Brewing Company has established a good reputation being regulars at the best events held within the locality.
This year the efforts of Dave was rewarded with an award voted for by CAMRA members. This was for ‘Divebomber’. Divebomber won Beer of the Festival 2007, at Ilkestons first beer festival in May, and Dave received his Award from CAMERA on 22nd August in the Spanish Bar.
Through the brewery’s fast learning curve and exceptional reputation the history of the company has stayed true with all the current range being named after things you find at the fair.
With Ilkeston Charter Fair again on its way, Dave Tizard is currently brewing like crazy in order to meet the requirements of the “Real Drinkers” needs.
Funfair ales will be available in the Spanish Bar, Dewdrop and no less than 6 ales at any one time will be available in the Observatory. Ales will include Ghost Train, Rollerghoster, Gallopers, Waltzer, Brandy Snap and Divebomber.
Dave will surely be around enjoying the highlights of the fair and no doubt sampling a few drinks himself, please feel free to say hello and meet your local brewer! We look forward to seeing you there!
