Making MACCA Magic this Summer!
This summer an outstanding 3,832 children and young people stayed healthy and had fun as they took part in Erewash Borough Council’s MACCA activity programme.
MACCA, which stands for ‘Mission: Active Children, Creative Adventure,’ caters for children aged five to 14-years-old and takes place during the Derbyshire school holidays at various locations including the borough’s five leisure centres, Erewash Museum and community venues.
The young people have the chance to take part in a wide selection of interesting and exciting activities such as sports, arts, cookery and drama - all aiming to be fun, creative and educational.
At Sandiacre Friesland Sports Centre this summer, one of the highlights for all ages was Animal Antics, which introduced wildlife in a fun and informative way. The children were introduced to animals including rabbits, spiders, beetles and reptiles, the scariest of all being a very large python.
On a (rare) warm summer day everyone enjoyed the Wet and Wild activities which involved lots of outdoor fun with games and water and ended with a barbeque.
All MACCA sessions are fully supervised by qualified staff and children are grouped according to age. Children aged eight-years-old and upwards can stay all day bringing a packed lunch with them. Lunch can also be pre-booked at some locations.
This October MACCA, will run from Saturday 20 – Saturday 27 October. A whole host of spooky activities and Halloween fun will be on offer for all those taking part.
The October programme will also include some brand new one-day activities including the ‘MACCA Sailing Day’ and the ‘Own a Pony for the Day’ experience.
