Title: Computer help!

Psiboy92 - August 11, 2006 02:59 AM (GMT)
Does anyone know how to destroy a Trojan Horse on your computer?

Dr.Sarcastic - August 11, 2006 03:08 AM (GMT)
No offence but if you didnt pirate you wouldnt get those nasty Horses. I on the other hand borrow.

First off disconnect your computer from the internet (gasp, you can do that?). Then run your anti-viral programs. Norton or what ever. Do a disk defragmentation after that's all done. I'll assume you have XP. Start >> Programs >> Accessories >> System tools >> Disk defragger. Run that to clean up the spurrious code from the horse. Most of the time though it's easier to Start >> Programs >> Accessories >> System tools >> System restore. And restore it to a point where you didnt have the virus. It may survive but most of the time it's not. (for me atleast). I wont get into using Linux and a Live CD to clean up :/

Psiboy92 - August 11, 2006 03:58 AM (GMT)
Do I have to disconnect from the internet?

Captain - August 11, 2006 04:51 AM (GMT)
I'd say so. It's not THAT hard...

Psiboy92 - August 11, 2006 02:21 PM (GMT)
I tried, but it didn't work. The horse is still there! And yes, I disconnected from the internet.

Dr.Sarcastic - August 11, 2006 02:44 PM (GMT)
If it's been over 24 hours it's better to reinstall Windows.

Masso_the_Fox - August 11, 2006 11:33 PM (GMT)
Egh, those things are nasty. I hope I never get one. That's why I never pirate. Luckily, I always make save points on System Restore. I get all peronoid about anything like viruses and trojans, since my last computer fried up.

Dr.Sarcastic - August 11, 2006 11:57 PM (GMT)
Good Masso. That's a very good thing to to with the system restore points.

hyper_angel_0016 - August 12, 2006 12:30 AM (GMT)
You may want to take off your little 'macs suck' note. Macs only have 2 known viruses, and they've been patched. :P <ad> Buy a mac!!! </ad>

And I second the Dr. on the no-piracy. Piracy is okay for some things (overpriced crap software, games) but you pee cee users could catch a cold. ^^

Has anyone ever heard of a Mac hacker?

Anyone?

Hello?

*echo*

...

Does anyone care about Macs enough to make one?

Anyone?

*echo again*

Guess not...

:P

Captain - August 12, 2006 01:05 AM (GMT)
There are over 1000 known viruses for macs I thought...

Dr.Sarcastic - August 12, 2006 01:28 AM (GMT)
Yes there are Mac hackers. Macintosh though is about 3% of the market share.
Linus another 'secure' OS has about 50 known holes, or 'ways to gain root'. Windows has so
many 'hackers' because it is the biggest OS out there. In reality if Mac was the 97% of the market share
It would have the most viruses and holes. Mac has more than two viruses . Most are exploited through
iChat. Also macs are WAY too over priced for what you get.

Hyper: I highly doubt Psiboy has even used a Mac. If he has he cant navigate the GUI. That's his only problem

Also it's a myth that Macs are for photoediting. When I get home I can link you to speed tests.
The newest g5 verses a 3.0ghz intel. The test was photoshop 7 rendering. The intel BLEW away the Mac.
Most of my problem with Mac is I hate the user base and Steve Jobs.

Also most "viruses" in my opinion is peoples in ability to use a damn computer.
</rant>

Captains number is closer to correct. Also with the influx of perl coders it's only a matter of time. :D

happy.dancing.unicorns - August 12, 2006 02:07 AM (GMT)
Yeah man. I'd get a mac in a heart beat if it wasn't for the price. Everything Apple puts out is over priced. I love my iPod, but only because of what's on it. If I had the choice to do it again I'd get a Zen or something.

Also in agreement with Dr. in terms of character, Bill Gates totally kicks Steve Jobs' arse.

Hyperboy - August 12, 2006 02:46 AM (GMT)
Eh, I've tried Macs and I tried PCs. I have both.

I prefer Windows. It's more accesible. Mac has a lot of problems with user accessibility. I had a lot of trouble erasing programs on it. The interface just erases the files, but not the files in the register, hidden in the Hard Drive.

Plus, it's just kind of clumsy. Minimizing stuff is kind of awkward.

Taken a look at intel's new Core 2 models? + a Geforce 7950 GX2 or 2...

God... and imagine if Microsoft delivers on the Vista OS next year (or was it later this year, I'm not sure)

Final nail in the coffin?

Dr.Sarcastic - August 12, 2006 04:02 AM (GMT)
Oh man Intel is going to bring some nice chipsets in soon. AMD just started doing dual core 64 bit procs though. *drools* That I want.

Captain - August 12, 2006 04:18 AM (GMT)
I am so torn. Should I get a new MacBook or a windows laptop? Gah!

Hyperboy - August 12, 2006 04:25 AM (GMT)
Windows Laptop. Well, actually, a Dell laptop. That's what I have and I love it. Widescreen, too.

Dr.Sarcastic - August 12, 2006 04:27 AM (GMT)
Laptop. You will get something cheaper (concerning price) and if you want to you can set it to dual boot with Linux later on. Linux is a bitch to get on Mac from what I hear. With Mac you will have to unlearn what you know about how an OS works internally and externally. For some people it's hard. It was for me.

Also cause we did some thread jacking I am renaming this to "Computer help"

Perhaps, but the fact that AMD just bought out ATI, and already has major support from Nvidia puts Intel in a bad position.

Masso_the_Fox - August 12, 2006 10:51 PM (GMT)
Wonder what's better... Nvidia, or ATI...? I mean, I got ATI 9200... Seems alright but, wonder if Nvidia would be better...

Sorry, I don't think that's really part of the position you guys are talking about. :D

happy.dancing.unicorns - August 12, 2006 11:32 PM (GMT)
I don't know an assload about computers, but my opinion and what I've heard id that ATI is better.

SkyeFyre - August 12, 2006 11:43 PM (GMT)
You cannot go by what people say as everyone has something called a "preference".

Dr.Sarcastic - August 12, 2006 11:47 PM (GMT)
Skyes right, I like nVidia. I'd take the 7800gtx over anything ATI has to offer.

happy.dancing.unicorns - August 12, 2006 11:47 PM (GMT)
Then I guess I'm totaly hangin with the wrong homies.

If you want something cheap..er but good go ATI right now.

Nvidia however just realised a behemoth (not in size mind you) card but its priced at 600, yet it blows ATI's current line out of the water. Cheaper then buying two cards however, and runns the same speed as two anyway (something about two chips in it I think.) look it up. Geforce 7950 GX2

Dr.Sarcastic - August 13, 2006 03:41 AM (GMT)
It's the equivlent of SLIing two 7800gtx together. I would want to liquid cool my system if I got that card though.

I'd rather just take the 7800gtx. Now if I can find the damn price. >:[

Dr.Sarcastic - August 13, 2006 07:25 PM (GMT)
For a new 7800gtx you're looking at 500 - 600 dollars.

Masso_the_Fox - August 13, 2006 08:50 PM (GMT)
God Dauuum. I'd rather buy myself a new computer from Dell. D:

Maybe when I become rich from being a male prostitute.

hyper_angel_0016 - August 13, 2006 09:38 PM (GMT)
Dells are the scum of the computer world. The cheap ones, anyways. "300 dollars only! Get one now!" Those are the computers to avoid.

If you've never used a mac before, you might not want one. Windows is good for gaming, but Macs are better for graphic-intense subjects, like animation, Photoshop, and video.

Linux is for programming....although I've only used Scheme on it...

Yuri Ward - August 13, 2006 10:02 PM (GMT)
How the tables of turned. Dell used to be a good quality, yet slightly expensive brand of computer. Gateway was the pathetic stuff. Heck, now I use a gateway and dell is left for the poor.

Hah, pwnt.

Mac: 0
PC: Lost count.

hyper_angel_0016 - August 15, 2006 03:07 AM (GMT)
Once again, it really matters what you want to use your computer for. That's why gamers hate Macs - there aren't many good games to play on that console.

Heard on the radio today: Dell is recalling all laptops in the last 2 years because of defective batteries. Other laptops are expected to recall as well. (Too bad Macintosh makes their own batteries, can't rub this into my skin. :P )

Hyperboy - August 15, 2006 03:14 AM (GMT)
Defective batteries, eh?

The battery in my Dell laptop does run out fast if not kept charged.

Dr.Sarcastic - August 15, 2006 03:44 AM (GMT)
:P No I can't. Now for something nice to say about Macs. They look pretty.
Also something I have to say I dont get. Mac recalled the x86 version of OSX because people where putting them on Dells and other NON mac based hardware. Yet after bootcamp came in the scene it's ok to load Windows on Mac hardware :/

Steve jobs said "I'd rather be a pirate than join the navy" When he started Mac :/

Yeah, we need to drop this though. Kinda beating it. Everyone has a choice and that's fine.

snowman500 - September 5, 2006 11:52 AM (GMT)
Does anyone know how to wash a keyoard? All my bottom keys are really sticky. like stuck down to the keyboard.

*EDIT* I think Dell owns Alienware. If so, crap I'm still with Dell.

Dr.Sarcastic - September 5, 2006 11:55 AM (GMT)
Yes, they do own alienware. Also I laugh at you for buying an over priced computer with lights on it.

You should be able to pop the keys off to wash them.

Eyeolas - September 9, 2006 04:25 PM (GMT)
Alienware? sorry I don't keep up much with dell
