Title: Your Desktop Part II
Yart - November 13, 2008 04:11 AM (GMT)
A long time ago we made a topic like this, but everyone has different desktops now.
Let's share!
I'm running Puppy Linux 4 on my favourite laptop of my two.

I love the simplistic look of it, and the ability to really customize the window manager. (I'm running JWM which is a pretty good one)
Also notice the multiple desktops. I got five set up so I can be awesomely productive and stuff, or do stuff while I'm compiling a C++ program or something. Puppy Linux comes with a shmup so I usually play that or something.
Puppy Linux is based off Slackware, which I've grown to love. Slackware = mmm...
...and yes I turned my menu button into a kitty. :P
Zhaneel - November 13, 2008 04:34 AM (GMT)
Hahahaha, the Azumanga Daioh kitty!
Yart - November 13, 2008 05:42 AM (GMT)
Is that what that is? I just thought it looked cute.

My desktop:
Yart - November 13, 2008 11:02 PM (GMT)
...is that a realistic rendition of a Care Bear?
...I just laughed really hard. Can I get a copy of that picture?
Da Davermen - November 13, 2008 11:45 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'll PM it to you.
EDIT: Yart: I just tried Puppy Linux via VMware. It's nice. :D

Alright, as I just reinstalled both of the OSs on my netbook, I think I should share this awesome wallpaper I found.
First specs:
- Acer Aspire ONE ZG5
- 3 cell battery (totally sucks, don't recommend it after a while)
- 1 GB ram
- 120GB HD
I have it dual booting Windows XP Home Edition and Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04.
First Windows (uxtheme patch running the
Zune final theme.):

And Ubuntu (
New Wave theme):

The wallpaper I got was from
here and I think it looks pretty nice. I'm the kind of person that likes a fairly dark wallpaper that is or stays true to the original art.

My Asus Eee PC running Eeebuntu. When I changed to this from the pack-in distro, Xandros Linux, the length of my battery life literally DOUBLED from an hour and a half to three hours. So I'm impressed with this distro.

Nice desktop Doc. It seems netbooks are taking over. Which one do you have?
Yart - July 13, 2009 11:38 PM (GMT)
This topic is pointless.
It's just posting a picture with icons on it.
I started it.
*Yart slaps forehead.

Check out this kickin' 'puter screen y'all!

Ah. Nice choice ;)
I remember when I was looking for my netbook, I typed on one of the EEEs that had the like 7 inch screens. Horrible keyboard, wayyy to small.
But it really does seem like netbooks are taking over...
Yart - July 15, 2009 11:09 AM (GMT)
Netbooks are ACTUAL laptops. What we call "laptops" today are the friggin' size of full PCs!!
Da Davermen - July 15, 2009 10:13 PM (GMT)
Skye, what kind of desktop is that? XD
It's true. Regular laptops are frickin' giant. In addition, I overhauled my GUI a couple days ago. All the aesthetic appeal of a mac, for about 600 bucks less. :P

I wonder what the toilet is...
Yart - July 16, 2009 11:54 AM (GMT)
You drag icons to the toilet to delete files.
C'mon! Has nobody here heard of Sierra?!
SkyeFyre - July 16, 2009 02:03 PM (GMT)
It's the super computer's interface. I feel so much pity for those who missed out on these gems.
Da Davermen - July 16, 2009 03:26 PM (GMT)
Hey, I've played every Space Quest game... But I lost the CD so I never beat any of them. :P
Yart - July 16, 2009 10:37 PM (GMT)
:P That's a shame. This screen shows up in the last like five minutes of one of them.
SkyeFyre - July 16, 2009 10:45 PM (GMT)
Space Quest 4. I still remember the day we bought it. Me and my dad went to this computer store and we were looking at the games. I wanted this bugs bunny game thing for the PC and my dad had to convince me to get SQ4 instead. Once I remembered that I loved SQ1... I caved and I am so glad that I did. SQ4 is what I consider to be the second best of the Space Quest series. #1 is classic, #2 is full of fun, #3 is ok, #4 is a newer classic, #5 I found they started to drift away from the charm of the earlier ones, #6 I've yet to really get into it, #7 I cried when it was cancelled... after they even released a preview video...
The Space Quest series is one of my absolute favorite game series of all time.
Da Davermen - July 16, 2009 11:33 PM (GMT)
can they be found for DOSbox?
BlueLink - July 16, 2009 11:35 PM (GMT)
Woah, after watching some YouTube videos, it seems the Homestar Runner game Peasant's Quest and based off of Space Quest. (as well as other games from the publisher)
Wow was I in the dark.
| QUOTE |
Peasant's Quest is obviously rooted in the tradition of the old Sierra games. Do you have a favorite Sierra game?
Matt: I think Space Quest 2 is my all-time favorite. And I have a soft spot for Hero's Quest 2 a.k.a. Quest for Glory 2.
Mike: I liked Space Quest 1 best. I liked the room with the 3 big shiny red buttons on the floor. I don't know if they were buttons... maybe just lights. Anyway, they were some good graphics.

Yart - July 16, 2009 11:43 PM (GMT)
It's sad how people just caught on to that. :/ New generation of gamers...
*Yart sighs.
BlueLink - July 17, 2009 01:09 AM (GMT)
Yeah well, I'm sorry for being born in the 90s and growing up on the Nintendo 64 :P
Man I do love that system.
SkyeFyre - July 17, 2009 02:54 AM (GMT)
Yeah, Peasant's Quest strikes me more of a parody of the King's Quest series than Space Quest but yeah, same graphics style and such considering King's Quest didn't look that good until #3.
If you want any of the Space Quest or Kings Quest games I have all of them (legit), I could see what I could do as far as putting CD images online.
Yart - July 17, 2009 02:45 PM (GMT)
And you must say you want them all too. They're really great games you shouldn't pass up. I hate adventure games but they have a place in my heart... even if I can't beat a single one of them.
DOSBox will play them just fine. :)
SkyeFyre - July 17, 2009 11:21 PM (GMT)
Really? You hate adventure games?
Space Quest 1 was the one game that got me hooked on PC gaming. It's like my first game. I will forever treasure and love it.
Yart - July 17, 2009 11:35 PM (GMT)
I just hate them because they're so cryptic and I get lost easily. Also I have a short attention span. I love watching someone else solve the puzzles though, or trying to help. I can't play them alone.
Da Davermen - July 23, 2009 05:55 AM (GMT)
I just(like an hour ago) switched from Eeebuntu to Cruncheee Linux. And the UI looks NICE.
Yart - July 23, 2009 12:16 PM (GMT)
I like the simplicity of it. Is it fast like Puppy? :)
Also SkyeFyre, never trust a revolving door.

Mine is more beautiful.

There's another icon on the desktop now.
It's not in the screenshot.
It's the image file for the screenshot.
