A mottled neptica slapped her tail angrily. She rammed the elf's leg lightly, trying to knock the fish loose in her hand. A sharp tap on her nose caught the neptica's nose.
"No." the sound was unfamiliar to the neptica. She clicked her tongue irritably, back paddling to gain distance from the sharp tap. She rammed the elf again, spouting water all over the fish keeper. The sharp tap came again, leaving a stinging sensation.
"No." Mistnight snorted, creeling to get her fish.

The neptica came up for air, spouting as she looked her keeper over with echolocation. There she stood, waist deep in the water. It wouldn't work to just beg, or would it. She swam closer, using her powerful tail to keep her head above water. Opening her mouth, the neptica wiggled her tongue in a strange way. Clicking at the keeper, she echoed her want of the fish. When nothing came, Mistnight submerged, she rammed her keeper again.
"No." the sound came again, along with the sharp tap. What was with this keeper? All Mistnight wanted was her fish. She could feel the sting on her nose from the numerous sharp taps.

Well, ramming only ended up with a sore snout. How was she supposed to get the fish? The neptica leapt out of the water, snapping at the keeper's hand that held the fish bucket. When she landed, the sand and water made her belly itch. When she came up for air, the keeper had tapped her nose again. "NO Mistnight." Mistnight swam away, her mind roiling in thought. There had to be a way to get the fish. When she swam back in front of the keeper, she expelled her head out of the water, spouting. She waited, listening to the water. Finally...
"Good girl Mistnight." The sound of a fish hitting the water. Mistnight dove for it. She had finally gotten a fish!

The neptica clicked her tongue happily, snapping up the fish. She chewed up her fish greedily, savoring the taste. She hadn't been eating much fish lately. It was meat meal and stuffed dead fish. No real meat! She came up for air, chattering happily. She wanted more. More, more, MORE! Diving down, she rammed into the elf's legs, knocking her down. A whack came across her fin, not hard enough to bruise, but enough to cause pain. She came up for air, snapping her jaws.
"No Mistnight. No." Skye told her fiercely, glaring down at the neptica. Not that the aquatic mammal could see her. Ok, she could see her with echolocations. She snapped her jaws at the elf's hand, clacking her tongue angrily.
"No Mistnight." Skye repeated, pushing the neptica away. The mottled smacked her tail against the foaming waves. She snorted, diving under the water, swimming away. Mistnight's emotions were a tangled mess.
'Twoleg idiot' she snarled mentally as she continued to swim. The elf was no longer on her fun list. She was such a... she never got to think out what the elf was.
SNAP A pliathor's jaws closed right behind the neptica's tail. RETREAT DOUBLETIME!!!

Propelling herself at the fastest speed she could swim, the neptica swam into the shadows. She splashed onto land, squealing with panic. Pliathor! Pliathor! The echo of those immense jaws still emblazoned in her mind, she struggled, spouting water. The elf came ashore next to the neptica, gasping.
"Are you all right Mistnight?" Her touch only panicked the aquatic mammal even more. She screamed, struggling in the sand.
"No Mistnight! Calm down! I'll help you! You beached yourself!" the elf cried, putting both arms around the neptica's body. Wriggling madly, the neptica continued to screech loudly, launching blind echos that bounced off of the elf, the sand and surrounding area not giving her anything. Her jaws latched around the elf's arm, throwing her head around. She was not going to be eaten! She wouldn't let them! She wouldn't.... Energy expended, she lay still in the sand, her body expanding and collapsing rapidly with her breath. Her skin was beginning to dry now, too tired to move. The elf managed to free her arm, long gouges in it.
"Its ok Mist. I won't let anything eat you. Don't bite though. No ramming either. Ok?" she said, splashing some water on the exhausted neptica's body. She didn't want to be eaten. Could she trust this elf? Hopefully.

The neptica seemed to be calming down a bit now. Skye repeatedly kept splashing water over the aquatic bound mammal, keeping her slick skin nice and wet. Her fins dug into the sand, her tail acting like a shovel. Her eyeless head lay on the damp sand, feeling exhausted. The strain from the swim, and the panic was making her feel more exhausted then she had ever felt. Mistnight felt her body being shoved backwards into the water again, resisting it. She heard the words "No." Chewing her thick tongue inside her maw, she allowed the twoleg to shove her back into the water. She felt much lighter in the water. A hand patted her head, stroking her back. She felt much better now. Would the pliathor come to the shallows? She doubted it. She bumped the twoleg's leg, wanting some fish. She waited for the whack, but instead, she heard a splash. The scent of fish came to her nostrils, opening her mouth wide, and catching the fish. Mistnight would never get tired of eating fish, that was for sure. She swam forward to ram the elf again, but changed her mind. Instead, she rubbed her head against the soft yet tall pillar that was the elf's leg. "Good Mistnight. Good no ramming."

Typically, Skye wouldn't have picked this time of year to be out and training. However, the weather and the seasons remained out of her reach. So much for controlling the earth. Oh wait, that was Fang's plan, not hers. Regardless. Here she was, hauling a wagon the size of a small boat towards the beach. The wagon was not all that old, but the weight it bore presently caused it to creak, groan and complain worse then an old man. The passenger was a lasiobel, a loch to be precise. After several failed attempts to get herself to get to know the big fella, the humanish had chosen to take him out for some fresh air. The only thing he had known was a baby pool since he hatched, and now he was too large for that. WAY too large. His intelligent green eyes that put green beer bottles to shame gazed around at the surroundings outside of his transport, glittering with curiosity. Now, Skye understood that it was still a ways away from the dock, but she figured starting his training before they reached it was a smart plan. Not to mention the fact that they had barely left the city limits in five hours of traveling. Skye's arms were throbbing from the effort of pulling her 300lb plus blubbery friend.
"Ok, big fella. Your name is going to be Trevor." she told him, patting the loch's right foreflipper. The lasiobel looked down at her, wondering why it had touched him. Not that he could feel it...
"Understand? Trevor. Treeevvvoooor. Tr-ev-or." she repeated, patting him again. The loch did not understand.

She wasn't exactly sure on what had 'pulled' Trevor out of the threesome of eggs she had kept for the longest time. The northern breed was for obviously going north. The wake lived in the oceans and could survive the harsher conditions of salty water. The loch breed, which was Trevor, was well... plain. She was wishing now that she had played with the big guy when he was a blubbery lump. Oh no... she had to go and wait until she could hardly move him. The wagon ground to a stop, sinking a few centimeters into the sand. She couldn't even see the lake from here. Pinching the bridge of her nose, Skye glanced back at Trevor, who was sniffing the air. Something nearby smelled interesting.
"Trevor." she spoke, waiting for a response. The lasiobel didn't seem to respond at first, but when she patted him, he looked down. Why was she patting him? "Good boy." the humanish praised, hugging his flipper. Oookay, that's weird. Yes, she was hugging the lasiobel for praise. Not that he minded. Leaning down, the brown giant inhaled her scent. This was the person who fed him. She was nice. Not 'known', but nice enough to feed him.
"Trevor." she repeated, patting him again. He looked down again at her. Was there a connection between this? She hugged him again, sounding 'happy'.

The wagon decided at that moment to fall apart. No, literally. The metal folded outward, caving under the giant blubberball's weight. "Note to self, get a new wagon" Skye muttered. Trevor looked down at the now flat wagon, backing off of it to examine it. It was flat as a pancake. The wheels were flattened as well, large holes where the air had forcefully left them.
"Trevor... I'm not sure if we can make it to the dock now." she sighed, dropping the wagon's handle in the foliage. "Water is that way Trevor. Can you find water Trevor?" she asked him, looking back over her shoulder. Trevor tilted his head a bit; water? Sure, he could find water. He raised his neck up as high as it would go, looking in each direction intently. The wind tasted damp... in that direction.
"Which way Trevor? Trevor? Where's water?" the humanish asked with curiosity.
'Oh, I will find water.' the lasiobel thought. Without warning, he was moving at an alarming pace over the sandy land. Skye had to jog after him, amazed at how fast this guy could move. He would be uncatchable once in the water.
"Trevor!" she shouted. The lasiobel stopped moving, looking back. Why wasn't she keeping up?

No, the lasiobel had not stopped because the humanish wasn't keeping up. He had stopped because she had used the word that she had been repeatedly using. Not to mention hugging him afterwords. She reached the big guy in a matter of minutes, dropping to her knees. The duster splayed around her, Skye kneeled in the now sandy terrain, catching her breath. Beads of sweat fell from her face to the ground, sapped away in seconds by the thirst of the earth and the heat of the sun. She should have come earlier in the day. Trevor wanted to keep going though, and off he went again. How could such a large animal move so fast over land? He was lumbering as fast as she could run on occasion.
"Trevor!" she called, staggering to her feet again and taking off after the wayward lasiobel. "Trevor!"
He finally scooted to a halt when he reached a babbling brook. The small stream of water cut through the landscape, dribbling quietly over the rocks half buried in the sand under the water. He looked back when the humanish called again, tilting his head to the side a bit.
"Good boy Trevor." Skye gasped, screeching to a halt beside him. The lasiobel scooted himself into the brook, wiggling his fins happily. This felt GREAT. "You found water Trevor! Good boy Trevor!" the humanish sounded happy again, and was using that same word. Hm.

The humanish took a seat beside the shore of the brook. The multi terrain boots quickly found themselves at the bank, along with socks and the duster, lying neatly in a folded pile. As she rolled her pants up to her knee, Skye stepped into the brook beside the lasiobel. Trevor was drinking the cool water by the gallon it seemed, as he had swallowed maybe ten times in the time it took her to get ready to wallow in the water. The stream was not that large, but there was enough water to get Trevor at least a little wet.
"Does that feel good Trevor?"she asked, splashing some water on his leathery hide. A gurgle of happiness echoed from the giant water creature, splashing her with his fins. "Thats you Trevor. Trevor is your name. You're such a good boy Trevor." she cooed, leaning against the creature's damp neck. Trevor curled his head around, resting it atop the humanish's head. This simple action nearly sent her face first into the water. "Easy Trevor. You're a good boy." she repeated, still patting his hide from where she stood. He seemed to be putting it together. But would he recognize it from other names? That was something she would have to find out. He knew one thing though, and that was the word she was using. Trevor. HE was Trevor. Wasn't he?
Trevor +1

"Trevor, Trevor, Trevor." Skye repeated, feeling unbelievably stupid. Name training sucked. Majorly. No really, it sucked. Unfortunately, ribbons of telepathy, talking pets and telepathic pets ran few to none in the world. It drove her insane to treat a pet like this. They weren't golems, who were denser then sedimentary rock. Trevor wasn't like that. No, he seemed much smarter then how she made him out to be, as a baby. That big fat calf who lolled on the bank, and kept with his hatch mates constantly. Behind all that blubber, she hadn't seen the keen look he had while watching what went on around him. Watching.... learning... remembering. She had not played with him at all as a calf, and he probably remembered that. He looked down at her when she went silent after the third time though.
"Trevor, Trevor, Trevor." she repeated again once he looked up again. The lasiobel glanced down at her, and was rewarded with a fish. He opened his mouth wide, allowing her to place the fish in his mouth. While he was chewing, she repeated it again, and he looked down. Now he was really questioning this female's sanity.

"Trevor..." If lasiobel could talk, he would have told her to shut up about now, Glancing down, he opened his mouth lazily, accepting the fish, and the pat on his flipper. "Trevor..." not again. When he looked down, she only made funny noises, her mouth pointing upwards. He would not understand humanoids this way. Hm. Looking away, he only heard it again. When he looked back, her mouth made that tilt upwards again. Still no food. Was she trying to irritate him? Grumbling, he lumbered out of the stream, the remainder of the water sliding off his smooth, slick skin. He wanted to go swimming.
"Trevor." The lasiobel looked back AGAIN. Geez, could she get any more repetitive? This word meant something, and if he looked at her when that sound was made, he got fish. Most of the time... He continued his lumbering gait up the dune towards the lake. When she made that sound AGAIN, he finally turned right around, mooing in her face. In lasi, it meant "SHUT UP!" In Skye's mind, she realized he must have figured out she was calling him. With a smile, she patted his whiskery nose, and handed over a fish. She figured he got it after that much calling.

Trevor made a mental note to try and communicate his frustration to some of the other pets that accompanied the female. He lumbered down the hill towards the lake, sliding a bit down the slope. Well, he had gained quite a bit of weight since he had hatched, but he had gained his mobility. Hey, no one can move well when you're a walking butterball. Uh... blubber ball. He lumbered down towards the water, absolutely intent on working his way into the big wet puddle. Though the question popped up in both the lasi's mind and the humanish's. Would swimming be an instinct, or would it have to be taught? Skye made a quick note to ask the resident specialist of the species on that, or bombard the labs with questions about them. Skye managed to crest the hill with ease, wandering down towards the water. She hoped that any resident pliathor were well fed, or not around.... then again once the lasi were going to be huge once they got older. She hoped that Trevor would lose all of his baby fat, as he did look well... unappealing presently.
