The female galathan chuckled. It was a low rumbling sort of sound that echoed through her chest, a deep contrast to that very girlish squeal she had uttered before. That was Nanashi in a nutshell. A young, childish, somewhat masculine female galathan who was, in the end, still a female. She watched curiously as Zarkun somehow managed to gather his feet below himself and dash off. Nanashi followed him with her eyes for a short time, just to give him a head start, before she started the chase.

Once she rose to her feet, Nanashi gathered her muscles under herself and took off after him with one powerful leap. Goodness! Chasing WAS so much more easy than running! She didn't have to constantly look behind herself in order to make sure she was far enough away, she just had to look forward like she naturally did, expect doing this she was keeping her eyes on Zarkun the whole time.

"Run run run!" The female chanted enthusiastically, allowing her strong legs and long strides to propel her body forward in pursuit. Now that she was actually the chaser rather than the chasee, she suddenly didn't mind prolonging this little game a bit longer. Maybe she wouldn't even mind being caught again after he caught her the next time, but that was doubtful. Nanashi quickly gained on Zarkun while he was still on the ground, letting out a joyful laugh as she reached out with one front leg, swiping to try and bat his tail to tag him. She would win this, too!

This may not have been the meeting that either of them had expected, but Nanashi was enjoying it all the same. She had been a bit worried, to be honestly, that Zarkun would be stuffy and talkative and talk over her head like Kadin could do without meaning to, but he wasn't like that at all. He was friendly and eager and, most importantly, fast! She was more than pleased with her quick, graceful little companion who was kind enough to play with her. In her book, any draconic who would play with her before getting all serous and stuff was a good draconic.

Running, running, running...

Panting, panting, panting...

Zarkun found his breath coming to him in more intense, harder to take in waves. The muscles in his limbs and chest started to burn as he became more and more exhausted by the action of all of this running. Yea, he was most certainly not made out for all of this vigorous playing. Maybe when he was a hatchling, sure, but he was getting too old for this, it seemed. Where had all of that energy gone, anyway? He wasn't that old, was he? The thought that he seriously thought to himself 'I'm too old for this' was met with a depressing wave from Zarkun. Really, he wasn't very old at all. Still a 'young adult' by most accounts.

Still, he could feel the energy of his youth draining away. Perhaps this is why adults do not play games like this so often. When one gets older, the body no longer has a desire to move very fast all the time like it does in its infancy. Simply enough, his body could not take the same things it did when he was young. No longer constantly growing and changing, he was also no longer eating and absorbing every activity and thought that came his way. Though, he was stronger and smarter for the effort. Overall, he liked the trade off, but it felt surreal to think of himself as old enough to worry about being tired.

Nanashi did manage to tap the feathers on the end of his tail, though he hadn't noticed. Zarkun panted, and began to slow down to a trot rather than a full sprint. Oh, he hoped Nanashi wouldn't be horribly disappointed if they had to stop playing their game. They were just starting to have so much fun, too! Zarkun silently made a promise to himself to do more flying and running to make himself better fit; he really needed it.

"No more... run. I give up... you win," he panted, flopping down on the ground. At least he had made sure to step a ways to the side before laying down. It would have been pretty bad had he not had that insight, and she barreled into him. That's the last thing he needed, a huge female trampling over him.

"I'm sorry..." he mumbled, the thought that she didn't speak very good common eluding him for the moment. Well, at the very least, she probably understood and enjoyed the phrase 'you win', even if it meant the end of the game.

It wasn't all that obvious at first, but after they had been running around for a little while, Nanashi did notice that Zarkun was moving slower and slower. She was still brimming with energy, herself, this wasn't even a warm up yet! Maybe all that speed he'd shown before was finally wearing him down. It made her sad to think that they might have to stop for a Break soon. Nanashi never liked it when her mom stopped to tell her that SHE needed a Break. It was annoying! No one should ever need a Break until they were on their side with a big stupid smile on their face, wheezing because they couldn't even move another inch. Those were the best Breaks.

What was really weird, though, was that he didn't stop even after she could have sworn she'd tagged him even though he was acting so tired. It didn't take very long for him to stop after that, though, but it looked like he was only stopping because he was tired. Nanashi slowed down with the male. She ended up standing by his side as he lay on the ground, panting. Huh. Well, it looked like maybe he had earned his Break after all. He was laying on his side and looked super tired, all that was missing was the smile! And that was optional.

"Tired?" Nanashi lowered her head, nudging his side gently. Part of her action was to make sure he knew that he was tagged even though he had stopped and stuff, she had still tagged him in the end... But she was also sort of wondering if he was faking. Sometimes her mom would stop like she needed a break only to get up real quick the next moment when Kadin walked in the caverns. Nanashi didn't like it when she tried to fool her like that! She hoped that he wasn't trying to fool her, too...

The galathan backed up a bit to give them male a little more space and lowered her haunches to the rocky ground with a sort 'thump!'. She watched him curiously, as if his exhaustion was something new to her, but after a little while she seemed to realize that she recognized some of the words he'd said when he'd stopped, causing her to brighten up considerable. "Win?" A wide grin spread over the galathan's features. "Win good! Yay! Again? Break? Play?"

It was quite clear that Nanashi did this sort of thing far more than he did. They came from two entirely different worlds, it seemed. While she spent her time playing games with her mother, Zarkun stayed at home and fed his intelligence. Zarkun didn't even know his birth mother, though he didn't particularly care about that. Ailia was as good of a mommy to him as anyone ever could be. As far as he was concerned, she was the only parent he ever needed. As he grew, Zarkun easily passed up his adoptive mother in mental abilities, though he never did get to be as strong or big as she was. Really, he didn't mind that. Size was never something he thought much about.

Well, it wasn't until today, that is. For some reason, he was feeling a bit insecure about his size around Nanashi. Never before had he thought to worry about his size. Sure, he wasn't as big as his mom, but he was way bigger than Kaokim. In fact, while he was learning to fly, he even managed to carry Kaokim on his back! Though, he did so very clumsily. Still, that alone gave him no reason to worry about being shrimpy. But that was all before he met this girl. It never occurred to him that Draconics actually got this big. Of course he had heard of them and read a few things about them, but he had never really considered the difference until he was standing next to her.

... and it made him feel positively small.

"Yes, tired..." Zarkun answered, flopping over and exposing his belly. It was not a particularly conscious thing, but it proved that he trusted her, at least. Generally, it is regarded as a bad idea to show your belly to someone you do not trust, no matter what species you are. That he was laying there on his side so casually most certainly said something, though what exactly it said was not very conclusive.

"Yes, you win. Break time." Zarkun was not speaking in short sentences to be condescending, so much as he was to tired to think that deeply into what he was saying. He licked the inside of his mouth a few times, and found it to be exceptionally sticky and dry. Ick. "Is there water...?" he asked, glancing around the room to see if there was a shallow pool nearby as there often was in the various caves around here.

Well, that was sad. Nanashi brought this up with a soft sigh and one regretful word. "Sad." She quite liked playing, if it hadn't been painfully obvious already, but she wasn't going to force him to continue playing with her. She'd tried doing that before, you see, mostly with her mother, and it had never ended well. It was probably a very good thing that Brynka had managed to beat some form of manners into Nanshi, at least when play was concerned. It would be rather intimidating to be faced with a giant galathan who got grumpy and pitched a fit every time her playmate sat down to catch a breath.

Not only did this one need a breath, but he wanted water, too? ...Oh! Was he thirsty? That was something that she could do about, and much better than him, too, especially when he looked so tired.

"I look!" Nanashi responded cheerfully enough. She got to her feet and began to trot cheerfully around the room, no doubt just happy to have a reason to be moving again. Sitting still didn't really suite her, which was odd, if you really thought about it. A creature so big undoubtedly required a lot of energy to even begin to move, let alone run around to the extent to which she had been doing. She must have had quite the large meal before she came here. That coupled with her extremely active lifestyle may begin to explain her seemingly endless supply energy.

A short while after she had left her companion laying on the ground, Nanashi did happen across a shallow pool that seemed to be fed by a small spring in the rock, no doubt to try and keep the water fresh in these rooms that hadn't seen many occupants as of late. Not that it was really of Nanashi's capacity to realize something so complicated. However, she did remember to call Zarkun over to the water, easily enough.

"Here!" The galathan let out a slight bellow so that he would easily hear her, although she probably could have just spoken and he would hear it. It wasn't as if there were many outside noises to distort their own voices in these caves. As she waited for him to join her, Nanashi bent down to get a drink herself. Zarkun had the right idea, running made a draconic thirsty! As a creature of instinct, Nanashi certainly wasn't going to turn away from the water that was so conveniently placed in front of her, either.

"I'm sorry," he mumbled. He hated to have to disappoint Nanashi after they had been having so much fun together. They just had such different ideas of what 'fun' was! Not that he hadn't been enjoying himself, that is. This was more fun than he had in a very long time. He mentally reminded himself to play tag with the hatchlings once he got home (and probably after a nap). It didn't occur to him until just now how much he missed the boundless energy and games that came with hatchlingdom.

Zarkun allowed himself to fall over onto his side and close his eyes for a moment when Nanashi went off to look for water. In his head, he had visions of the spring that was in their own home. It was big enough for a fully grown Draconic (usually Quari) to float around in. They had made their decision to move there based on the existence of that water, he had been told. Of course, he hadn't even been born yet at the time. It was just Ailia and Kaokim back then. Luckily they had picked a spot with water, for most of the Draconics had a Naniyesh in their lineage.

Zarkun snapped up when Nanashi spoke out again. So loud! Did she have an inside voice? Zarkun shook his head to fend off the drowsiness, and wandered over next to her with the pool. He dipped his head down and drank from the pool as water splashed up onto his face from all of the ripples being made from the two of them. Funny, just 20 minutes ago, he probably would have been too afraid of her to even approach, now they were practically mashing their faces together. For his first real friend outside of his own cavern, he was doing pretty well!

Girl. Now that he was standing here so close to her, and so still, the idea that she was a girl overwhelmed him for a moment. She smelled like a girl, particularly now that she had gotten to moving around a bit. Never before had he thought about the scent of a girl, but now it was overpowering. Honestly, he wasn't sure how he felt about it. Was a girl really different from a boy? Right now it felt like it, but he wasn't sure if he knew why.

Zarkun stopped drinking and turned his head up to look at Nanashi. Was she thinking something similar, or was she merely entranced with the idea of someone new to play tag with? Again, he found his head filled with questions. Always full of questions, this one. It was the curse of being as intelligent as he was. In many ways, he wished he could be more like Nanashi; with fewer questions and words cluttering up the enjoyment of life...

As her friend joined her for a drink at the small spring, Nanashi raised her head and smiled at him in greeting before taking one more sip and deciding that she'd had quite enough for now. She didn't want to have her belly all full of water if Zarkun decided that he wasn't tired anymore and that he wanted to play some other sort of game, so she thought that it would be safest to just satisfy her thirst without overdoing it.

With a content sigh, the galathan moved a little ways away from the pool and lay down, looking around at the cavern they had all to themselves curiously. She had noticed it before, but right now she took a moment to appreciate just how big it was. They had run around so much in here and she hadn't had to be turning constantly to avoid running in to any walls. It was nice, in a way. She'd never be able to play like this at home... At least, not until she expanded her room like she wanted it. It would be magnificent once she was done!

Nanashi looked over at Zarkun curiously, half wondering how big his cavern was at his home. Did he have a lot of room to run and jump around, or did he like small caverns where he could feel safe and secure while he slept? Did he spend a lot of time there, or did he spend more time wandering with his kin? Nanashi wished that she had more kin. Kadin seemed to think that she'd have much more kin, and really soon! But it made her sad that she had so few draconic to play with when the boy was away and her mother was being busy doing whatever it was that she did.

"Tired?" The galathan asked her companion. She was very much tempted to try and initiate another game of tag, but if he still needed more rest she probably would be able to bother him with it. It wouldn't be very fair of her, anyway, not when he'd tried to hard to play with her before. Geez, did all boys tired out this easily? They needed to learn to build up their stamina if they wanted to impress more females!

Not that Zarkun wasn't impressive, in his own way. He was just so much different from her. Instead of being large and strong, he was small, but fast and quick to run away and to chase. He could fly while she was always on the ground and it looked as if he could do something with his breath, too! He was very impressive, just in his own way. Nanashi liked that.

Zarkun had switched back to worrying. For the first time in his life, he was faced with a girl, and he was not related to her, and she was a girl, and why hadn't he realized that yet? Zarkun had never particularly thought about it before, honestly. Girls were not something he ever really thought about. He knew that it was a popular thing for males of his age to spend a lot of time thinking about; he just didn't ever care that much. The world was full of interesting things, and as fascinating as they may be, girls were just one of those things. It never occurred to him to take on a full time job of obsessing over them.

When he finished with his water, which he found very pleasant despite being different than that he was used to, Zarkun wandered over next to Nanashi and flopped down next to her in a way that they were slightly touching sides. If asked, he wouldn't be able to explain why he decided to come over here next to her instead of laying where he was before. It just seemed... natural? He tried not to over analyze his actions, as he often did. Thinking too much about everything (yet knowing very little in the way of the world) always got him in so much trouble. Perhaps just doing what he felt like doing and not making it awkward or weird would be an improvement. If only he could stick to such a philosophy, which was unlikely...

Yep! There he goes, over thinking everything already, just after he had committed to not doing so. He started thinking about friends, and if he was hers yet. Did you have to meet someone twice to be their friend? Were they friends in a different way than two boys or two girls would be friends? Shouldn't he know all of this already? Ugh, it frustrated him that he really had no idea what he was supposed to be doing, if there even was such a thing. His mind flooded with questions, and a sheepish little smile washed over his face in an attempt to smooth out his emotions. It didn't work. He was as confused about everything as he always was.

Wrapped up in his own mind, Zarkun hadn't noticed at first that she had asked him a question. He looked at her kind of blankly for a moment, as if trying to think of how to answer. It was such a simple question, but he had been so lost within himself that the sound of it being asked scrambled his whole world up. "Um..." he began, shaking his head lightly. Come on, Zarkun! You can do this, it's just a dumb question. There weren't even a whole lot of words to it.

"A little," he finally answered. In his head, it had felt like forever, but it wasn't really very long. Long enough to irk someone particularly impatient about it, perhaps, but not the eons it felt like. After the short break and bit of water, he felt a little better, but he wasn't entirely sure he would be up for another rowdy game any time soon.

Nanashi tilted her head as she watched her companion, curiously. The silly boy seemed to be thinking about something. It might have been his answer to her question (Nanashi knew from experience that sometimes it took a little while to ensure that one was REALLY okay), but she didn't really think that was it. He was too smart to have to think that much just about whether or not he could run around like a maniac some more. Maybe he was doing the thing Kadin and her mom sometimes did. The whole thinking in circles thing, like how Nanashi used to chase her tail (USED TO THANK YOU) only in their head and it was harder for them to trip and land with their face on the floor so they usually did it for a longlong time and...

Hey. Was she doing it do?

"Okay." The galathan said, pleasantly enough, banishing complicated thoughts from her mind easily enough. She got to her feet just then and started to stretch, lowering her upper body and stretching her legs as far as she could in front of herself, her large claws digging deep ruts into the ground as she tensed her muscles and slowly relaxed them. With a sigh, Nanashi shook her body and lay down once more, in a slightly different position but the same spot that she had been in before. The only real difference was that now her body was a bit curved so that she could better see Zarkun since she figured that now would be Talking time instead of Playing time.

She didn't completely, understand why, but she knew that there were different times for different things and, most of the time, one did not do a whole bunch of those things all at once because one would become overwhelmed. This philosophy only worked for things that took a lot of concentration and effort, mind, and didn't include things like having fun or walking. Those were simple things that, depending on what the main activity involved was, could be included in them anyway.

Right now, it wasn't Play time or Explore time or Dig time. It was Resting time and they might have a little bit of Talking time as well. The two sort of went hand in hand, but sometimes they could be separate, you see. Nanashi just wasn't sure what he might want this talking time to be about, especially since they both wouldn't be all that good at communicating. She didn't like talking to begin with! She was horrible at common, but passible with draconic... Maybe he'd be nice and just go to sleep so that they didn't have to worry about the whole talking business at all. That would make life easiest for everyone involved, no doubt.

With a soft 'huff' that may have been a sigh, Nanashi began to slowly drag her claws across the ground in front of her. She marveled at the way her claws scraped the ground and how the looser stone and gravel easily gave was under her power. The stronger stone, the rock underneath, was more difficult to scratch away at, but she knew how to scratch so that even that would bend to her will. The galathan occupied herself with this task for a little while, a sort of physical escape from mental problems, and soon she even had a small, shallow hole to show for it.

If there was anything Zarkun did well, it was thinking. Then again, it was hard to say what exactly made one a 'good' thinker. Was it he, who had superior mental prowess but inferior instincts, that was a better thinker, or was it her with her simplicity and worldly wisdom? These were all things he silently debated to himself. Were it not already established that talking was not her forte, he probably would be saying this all aloud in one big jumbled mess. Zarkun had a habit of mashing all of his thoughts together when they came too fast to all be exported at the same time. He had no idea how to reserve and collect his thought before spewing them out, as he rarely had anyone to talk to aside from himself and people already used to his ranting.

Zarkun tensed when Nanashi moved, for he was sure that she was about to get up and become huffy about his odd insistence on closeness. When she settled back and managed not to leave in the process, he was pleasantly surprised by the whole thing. He rather liked to have her close, for a reason he wasn't too sure he understood yet. There was most certainly something alluring about the closeness of anyone, but especially when that someone was not family for some reason. Sure, snuggling with a sibling was nice, but snuggling with a friend was even nicer, no matter the gender. Though, this may be his opinion; as he understood it, it was not very common for a male to enjoy snuggling at all, but particularly not with other males.

That was something he never really understood. Most concepts, he could grasp once explained to him. This whole weird way that males acted around one another was not. Females seemed about the same any way around it; they always acted like females, whether in the presence of other females, males, or both. Of course, females were weird and confusing for a long list of reasons, but at least they were consistently weird and confusing. Males, however, acted totally differently around females then they did other males. They played differently, they spoke differently, and they had trouble admitting how they really felt about anything. Though, not admitting things seemed to be a male specialty all around.

He shook his head, trying not to think so hard at the moment. Instead, he tried to focus on what Nanashi was doing. Wow! She was pretty good at digging, wasn't she? He feebly tapped the ground a few times with his paw, determining that he could probably not dig as well as she could, and she seemed to be doing it rather casually like an afterthought. This girl could do a lot of interesting things. Not bad for someone who couldn't talk very much...

"Mmm..." he hummed lightly, rubbing the side of his face against her side affectionately.

It was calming, in a way, to scrape at the dirt and watch it move. To know that one had the power to leave a mark upon the land, be it intentional, practical, or just for fun. She enjoyed her own power and relished it, but she did not overuse it. If she had so desired, she could no doubt dig a hole out of this place, excavate tunnels and create her own home, right in this very rock, but she did not. The instinct to dig was there and so she satisfied it by scraping the ground a bit, nothing more.

The sound of scraping that was not her own broke Nanashi out of the trace she had seemed to have fallen into. As she looked over, she was a bit amused to see that Zarkun was trying to make a hole of his own. The galathan chuckled a bit, to herself and not really directed at him. She then did something that her mother had done for her, when she was very young and very curious as to why Kadin wasn't joining her and her mother in their digging.

"Look." Nanashi said, moving one of her large paws so that Zarkun could get a better look at it. "Claws." She flexed her long, thick, but blunt talons, digging them partly into the ground to further get across her point. She then leaned closer to him, pointedly looking to his own paws. "Small claw. Big claw. See?" And that was why she could dig while he was mostly scraping at the ground. If Nanashi knew enough to be vain about her abilities, she might have been a bit smug that she could dig so well while he was struggling. It sort of made up for the fact that he could fly while she would be forever bound to the earth and her caves.

The galathan looked over at her companion curiously, a bit surprised by the display of affection, but it wasn't entirely unwanted. In fact, she found it almost a little pleasant. She already knew that she liked Zarkun very much and also enjoyed his company, but now he was showing her with no uncertainty that he liked her, too! It was a relief, in a way, she would have been very sad if he had only been faking his fun while he was playing. To do so would be tricky and mean and not very silly. She liked the silly, clumsy, yet graceful Zarkun and that was the Zarkun she had, with her, right now, alone. Hmm.

"Wanna play new game. Yes?" Nanashi murmured in draconic this time, swinging her tail lightly so that it brushed against his. Her mother had told her about the game that adults played in order to help further their race, if it could even be called a game. Honestly, it sounded something like work, but her mother had told her that it was pleasant, in its own way, and it did lead to more hatchlings being born. Kadin liked hatchllngs very much and so did Brynka. Nanashi wasn't very sure if she liked hatchlings, at least not in the way her mother did.

Hatchlings were fun and energetic and they could run and play almost as much as she did, but you also had to be very gentle with them... Still. This galathan was never one to run away from trying out new experiences. All she had to do was tell Zarkun what she knew about this game and see if he agreed to play... Maybe he liked hatchlings, too.
