This is somewhere the boy had never been before. The Eccentric’s Mansion. It was a strange place, he had heard, that had been opened to the public while he was gone on his… trip. Being curious as he was, he decided to go check it out. Rumors told him that very strange and interesting things happened there, and it sounded just like his kind of place.
Vulcanus was with him today, walking calmly by his side. The clever little canine was happy to come along, his fiery tail swished back and forth as he walked. This was their first real outing together, and he was so far enjoying it quite a bit, even if they hadn’t actually done anything yet.
Silver stopped just outside of the mansion, taking a moment to look at it. “Well, Vulc, are you ready to go explore?” Though he couldn’t understand the boy, Vulc looked up and tilted his head while he was being spoken to. When Silver was done talking, he yipped playfully. “Sounds good to me,” the boy said with a smile.
Silver lead the way, followed closely by Vulc, who was sniffing around as he walked. The two of them wandered cautiously into the mansion, wondering what it would have in store for them.

Pop!
Silver nearly jumped out of his skin as a burst of light was followed by a loud sound. He grabbed for his swords, and looked around for the intangible assailant. Vulc growled loudly, the hair on his back standing on end. The flame that was his tail flared up, and his eyes pulled into a squint. Whatever that was, he didn’t like it one bit.
Pop!
The boy spun around, looking for the source of the noise. What the hell was going on, anyway? Vulc looked around as well, growling menacingly the entire time. They were soon met with a flash of light, which Vulc barked at, and Silver slowly started to put it together. There was some kind of explosions going off in this room, obviously. As he watched, he started to discern that these were some kind of magic, colorful explosions. Bright and a little loud perhaps, but they didn’t seem to be hurting anything.
The weirdest part about it was that there was nobody else here, just him and his dog. Who was causing these flashes, if they were the only ones here? Maybe that’s what people were talking about, when they said that weird things happened here. It must be some kind of magic, or spirit.

“Hush boy,” Silver cooed softly, trying to calm Vulc down a bit. He was obviously very agitated, and wasn’t fond at all of all of these random flashes. “It’s going to be okay, they won’t hurt you.” The boy assured, reaching down to pat Vulc on the head. Slowly, Vulc began to calm down, his growl becoming quieter and quieter as Silver stroked him affectionately.
‘The spirits are loud here,’ a familiar voice echoed around in his head.
‘I’ve noticed.’
‘Be careful…’ and the voice left him at that. How ominous.
A little wisp of flame moved slowly, appearing to look around from its position between his ears. It was almost as though it was sentient, and trying to see what was going on for itself. The crossbreed didn’t seem to notice it at all and merely continued to enjoy Silver’s hand that was idly stroking his neck. In fact, Silver didn’t really seem to notice either, despite his hand being frighteningly close to it.
“Are you feeling better now, boy?” Silver asked in an encouraging tone. As always, Vulc didn’t know what he was saying, but he understood the tone. He looked up at the boy, his tongue hanging out of the side of his mouth. His pose had certainly become a bit more relaxed, though he was obviously still a little nervous.

“Shall we continue?” Silver asked, taking his hand off of Vulc, and taking a few steps forward. He didn’t get very far before he paused, and did a double take. The room seemed to move and shift behind him, but he when he looked back, nothing appeared to have moved. He shook his head, thinking he was imagining it.
Vulc looked up at Silver, concerned for a moment. Was he okay? Why did he just stop like that? Well, he was continuing on now, so Vulc once again opened his mouth to let his tongue hang out, and went to follow him. The flicker of a flame between his ears seemed to have noticed the same thing Silver had, but nobody was paying attention enough to notice what it was looking at.
The boy started to walk around the large room, wondering where he should go next. Should he just wander aimlessly… or what? Oh look, there was a door! Perhaps that’s where they should go. Maybe whatever was inside there would be a little less nerve wracking than the ever changing, brightly flashing room they were in right now. Or, maybe it would be worse. Only one way to tell!

Silver opened the door slowly, pulling it towards him cautiously. All sorts of weird things were happening already, he couldn’t help but to think that whatever was in there wasn’t going to be much better. Before he could see inside, he heard something. Something… singing?
His ears perked up, and he looked around to see what could possibly be making such a racket. It wasn’t an unpleasant melody, but it sure was a bit unnerving. Somehow, he just knew that there was something not quite right about it. Then again, when was there ever anything right about this place? So far, he had been led to believe that nothing around here was ordinary.
Slowly, he walked into the room, Vulc following unusually close behind him now. He looked around, and failed to see what it was that was singing, though he could certainly still hear it. Well, other than the disembodied voices, this room wasn’t so bad. No explosions, which was always a good thing. The room was overgrown, which was odd considering they were indoors. Bushes full of berries were all about, and grass grew through the floor. Always one to like plants, he felt a little more comfortable here than in the last room.

Wine? There were glasses of wine lying about. Silver gingerly sniffed at one, and it smelled okay, but he still wasn’t going to touch it. This whole room felt like a harvest party to him. Like the voices, who were still singing, were merrily celebrating a wonderful harvest with wine and a get together. If there were actual people here, and not just odd spirits, it would actually be kind of nice.
Vulc continued to look around the room, searching for what was making all that sound. Somehow, he knew he wouldn’t find it, but he felt compelled to search for it anyway. It was drawing him in, like a moth to a flame. He pressed his body against to Silver’s leg, not wanting to get too far away from the boy. It made him feel much safer to be close to someone else. Someone tangible.
“It’s okay, Vulc,” Silver said warmly, rubbing the creature on the nose. It was amazing how far a simple gesture like that could calm down the creature. “Nobody’s going to hurt you here,” Silver said aloud, as though he was trying to convince himself as much as he was Vulc.

“Here, let’s sit down for a bit,” Silver said, plopping himself on the floor next to Vulc, who decided to sit as well. “There’s a good boy,” the boy cooed, rubbing his crossbreed warmly. “See? It’s going to be okay.”
This really did seem like a good place to relax. If you got over the fact that the singing was coming from essentially nowhere, it was actually kind of pleasant. Some of the songs even sounded familiar, like the ones that performers in the city would sing while begging for credits. He always loved to watch street performers. It was such an interesting and fascinating art, no matter what they were doing. The fact that they did it to entertain, to draw a crowd, always seemed interesting to him, though he couldn’t really explain why.
Vulc pushed his nose into Silver’s chest, reminding the boy to pet him. Apparently, he had lapsed in his efforts while he was listening to the song that echoed throughout the room. “Sorry boy,” he mumbled, and began to scratch behind Vulc’s ears. This made him content, and he continued to sit quietly while Silver enjoyed the sights and sounds. Even the mysterious little flame seemed to calm down a bit, and swayed slightly with the sound of the music.

Silver had no idea how long they had been sitting there. It was almost like they were in a trance, enjoying this garden party along with the spirits. Well, he assumed they were wayward spirits, anyway. It wasn’t like he had any real good way of knowing what was going on at all. For all he knew, it could simply be a record player someone had hidden away. Though, he doubted it. This didn’t feel like it was coming out of a machine, though it didn’t feel like it was coming out of people either.
“I wonder…” he said quietly to himself, pulling a berry off of one of the bushes that littered this room. It looked good, but he knew enough about plants to be wary. This could very well be the world’s most poisonous plant, though it could just as easily be the world’s most delicious. When it came down to it, he decided to air on the side of caution, and not eat the fruit. Vulc sniffed at it, and came to the same conclusion.
“If you want something to eat, then here,” Silver said, pulling his backpack off of his shoulder, and pulling a little sack from it. Inside was some jerky, which he intended to share.

“Good, innit?” Silver asked, handing Vulc a piece of jerky. Vulc chewed at it a few times, trying to break up the tough dried meat. Despite the fact that he really didn’t like chewing anything, he did rather enjoy it, and he inched closer hoping for more. Silver giggled lightly at him, breaking off another piece for him to have.
Just when it seemed like he couldn’t get any closer, Vulc inched forward one more time, putting a paw on Silver’s lap for stability. “Okay, I like you and all, but you need to get down,” Silver said, giving Vulc a gentle push. When he didn’t budge, Silver had to be a little more firm. “Move it!” Though he didn’t say it all that loudly, his tone got the right point across, and Vulc backed off a little bit.
His ears flopped down a little bit, and he made a pouty face. Why did the boy yell at him? What did he do wrong? He whimpered lightly, and curled his tail up around his legs. Silver, not one to resist a good puppy face, apologized for yelling. “Aww, come on now,” he tossed a piece of jerky over, “Better now?” It was like he had never been sad in the first place, as now he was wagging his tail and gobbling down the treat.

“You’re a jerk,” Silver teased, smiling all the while. He was a clever little fellow, wasn’t he? He had to know that face would get him exactly what he wanted. That’s why he did it. It sort of made Silver feel like a sucker for falling for it, though it was all just in good fun.
Vulc took a step forward, and rubbed his face on Silver’s cheek. He really liked this boy; he was full of affectionate pats and yummy treats. What more could he want in a person? The crossbreed already had it in his head that this was defiantly his person. Well, not exclusively his, so much as the person he knew he was supposed to take care of, and that would take care of him. Though, if you could ask him, he would most certainly tell you that he was the one doing all of the protecting.
“We should probably get up,” Silver said, looking around the room. Ugh, but he didn’t want to get up yet. It was so comfortable here. For all he knew, the next place could be more explosions. Or worse. Well, they were here to explore. They weren’t getting a whole lot of that done sitting here, eating jerky, now were they?

As Silver and Vulc were sitting there, they were greeted by a pretty little creature, landing gently on Silver. The boy turned his head to look at it, "Hey there little guy." It was certainly a very pretty butterfly, wasn't it? Almost unreal, with its odd white glow. It seemed to match everything else here, strange and alien, but interesting nonetheless. "Do you want to come home with me?" He asked, reaching out to touch it. When it didn't resist him, he assumed that meant 'yes', in some odd way or another.
Vulc had been watching the butterfly jealously for a moment, but his attention was soon diverted. What was that? His head turned, and he watched it very closely. Nose pointed straight at it, his eyes stayed very fixed on an odd little green bug. Silver turned to see what he was doing, after shifting the butterfly to his shoulder, where it peacefully sat. "What is it boy?" Silver asked, looking in the direction Vulc was staring. Well, would you look at that? Apparently, they had two little visitors. This one wasn't coming nearly as close at the other had, though. It would probably take more effort to obtain. Not every creature just (literally) lands in your lap for you to take home.

Silver was pulling a jar out of his backpack, carefully and slowly as not to scare the creature away. Vulc, on the other hand, had a plan of his own. He was going to eat it. He crouched down, butt in the air and face near the ground. Tail swishing, he was ready to jump on the little creature, any second now. "Vulc!" Silver shouted, gaining his attention and frightening the bug into flying a few feet away at the same time.
"Damnit Vulc, you're not supposed to pounce on it!" Silver said exasperatedly, though not scolding. Vulc hung his head, whining softly. He wasn't so sure what it was he did that made Silver unhappy, but he was sorry that he had done it. "It's okay, boy. Let's just go try to get it, huh?" Silver said, holding up his jar with a smile.
"On second thought, I'll go get it. You stay here." The last thing he needed was for Vulc to scare the bug away again. Next time, they might not be so lucky as for it to stick within eyesight like it did last time. Not to mention, Vulc was likely to kill it if he pounced, whether or not he did so on purpose.

Silver slowly started sneaking toward the little green bug, open jar in hand. Carefully, he crept up on the bug, trying to be as quiet as possible. It sat there, completely unaware of his soon to be attempt to catch it. With one quick swipe, he cupped his hand, and threw it over the creature, hoping he hadn't crushed it in the process. He scrunched his eyes closed, and balled his fist. Slowly, he opened his eyes back up, and tried to peek through the cracks in his fingers.
Sure enough, there was a little glowing creature in there. "Ha!" He cheered a bit, before trying his best to stuff it in the jar. For a moment, he got his hand stuck, but he managed to pull it out and cap the lid back on in one quick maneuver, without killing the bug or breaking the jar. "Success!" he said, excitedly.
Vulc barked, obviously also happy with Silver's accomplishment. His face was pulled up into somewhat of a smile, his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth. This was starting to become a very good day for the two of them, wasn't it? "I wonder how many more we can get!" Silver said, smiling brightly.
