It wasn't like him to be nervous, but now he wasn't so sure about everything he'd told Es and Cy while they traveled. The cave was right there, waiting to be entered, waiting for another fight. He still hadn't heard of anyone else fighting the Golgoth, could he really be the only person to fight it? It just wouldn't be right if he was the only one, but maybe other people just weren't all that intrigued by things. Maybe once his Golgoth hatched and he started training it more people would be on their way to the Grasslands in order to fight the thing. Only made sense... right? Es glanced over at Cy and grunted, nodding behind the Human, motioning for her to stay behind him. He didn't want the Human getting mad at him for letting her get hurt or anything, really, the last thing he wanted to happen. Obsidion smiled at Cy as she slipped behind him, glancing around him as they began to make their way to the cave. The young man took in a deep breath and began to tie the Ribbons around his arm again, quiet determination radiating from Es. This would be fun, oh yes, and they would win, they'd won before, after all, hadn't they? Obsidion smiled and pushed them forward, into the cave, as the rain came down even harder than before. It was raining. Hard, loud, splattery rain that made everything muddy and squelchy and that leaked in to her cave and made it stink like muck. Worms wriggled across the cave floor and the rocky walls were slimier than usual. She could smell the detritus forming at the mouth.
She hated rain.
Nevermind that it made the cottle come out to play and the grasslands came to life in the precious water - she hated rain.
With an aggravated grunt the Golgoth rubbed at her nose, as though trying to rub the stench of moisture from it, and then lumbered deeper in to her cave. And then, as a particularly misty breeze wafted through her lair, she caught it. It was very, very faint, but it was foreign and thus threatening.
Intruders.
One scent was familiar, but at the same time, somehow wrong. She recognized the smell of Eudrace, but this was... a different sort, a new sort... a distinctly less dangerous sort, from what she could tell.
Well. As though she wasn't in a mood enough already, now she had to fight some scum away, protect her lair and her eggs. At the very least it was an outlet for her frustration.
With some effort (she was quite large, after all) she turned herself about, and then slunk towards her cave entrance as stealthily as she could manage.

Nervously chewing on his last ear of corn, Obsidion nudged Es forward a little as he heard the grunt. The Eudrace and Wolthox had already heard it, however, their ears swiveled forward, heads up and alert. Es already knew the scent, remembering it, and his upper lip curled back over his teeth.
Get behind that rock and watch, Cy. Es, come with me, the young man ordered, tossing his pack behind the rock as soon as the Wolthox had slunk behind it. The creature peered out from behind the rock, trying to catch a glimpse of the thing they had warned her about. What if Es couldn't beat it? What would happen if the Human got hurt...?
Obsidion kept a hand on the Eudrace's back while they walked ahead, alert and ready to fight if they needed to. You're really ready for this, right Es? he asked, glancing over at him as they rounded a curve in the tunnel toward the main cave. He remembered the last fight of theirs, he thought Es had been poisoned too badly, but the Eudrace had managed to fight through it and the poison had worn off.
It would work out best for them if they could get a jump on the beast, but Obsidion knew it wouldn't happen like that. The thing had excellent hearing, he figured, and it would be hard, especially since he thought he heard it move around, and the ground was starting to shake a little harder.

The farther the beast lumbered towards the mouth of the cave, the grumpier she became. Louder was the rain, squelchier was the mud, slimier were the walls, more numerous were the worms, and - of course - more intense was the stench of intruder.
Eudrace. Definitely Eudrace. Or - rather, almost-Eudrace. Different-Eudrace.
And then another. A scent she had never encountered before, one that was distinctly out of place in her cave, and certainly in the plains that surrounded it.
And - she sniffed - a third?
It was... familiar....
She hesitated, sniffed again, her tail twitching with agitation.
Human, yes. They were occasional visitors to the plains areas. Squishy, hairless little things that were of no consequence, and certainly no threat to her.
She harumphed and continued forward.
The Eudrace would pose little threat, as long as she was careful about the spikes. The unknown scent bothered her slightly, but - well. This was her cave. Surely they would see that.
A bend in the cave was washed with the rotten light from outside, yellow-tinged from the rain and the grass. Around this bend was the mouth of the cave, and the intruders that threatened her clutch and her horde.

Stay there, Cy! he ordered as the great beast turned the corner. The Wolthox's eyes widened and she ducked further behind the rock, not wanting to antagonize such a creature. The Human and the spiked one had beaten it before, and while she didn't like the Eudrace one bit, he was the best chance of them coming out alive again. She still didn't really know how to fight, something she wailed about at the moment, though in silence so she wouldn't distract the Human.
Upper lip curled back, a snarl coming from his mouth as the Golgoth came into view. A vile, nasty, bulbous thing, waiting to be beaten. He'd beaten one before, who was to say he couldn't do it again? Eyes narrowed, Es lunged forward, waiting for the command he knew would come in a moment.
Crunch! he bellowed through the Ribbon, ducking to the side a little to, hopefully, avoid the gaze of the Golgoth for as long as possible. From what he remembered, they had pretty decent hearing, though his own hadn't hatched yet for him to experience it first hand. He just hoped Es hadn't gone soft since that last fight, there was nothing they could waste in such a fight. There was no chance, he just needed to have faith in his creatures, faith in his training, and as the Eudrace lunged for the Golgoth, all he could do was watch.

WHAM! Blindsided.
The Golgoth took the attack full on the neck. She bellowed with outrage, losing her footing in the mire and skidding in to the cave wall. Her skull cracked against the wall. With a grunt she tried to shake the Eudrace off, her breath catching in her trachea, vision spinning. Already she could feel her limbs weakening.
Impossible!
How was she so taken by surprise? Especially in here! In this, her own domain!
With a heave she rose to her feet, trying once again to shake the reptilian creature.
Jaws gnashing, wet with foam, she turned to bash the Eudrace in to the wall, attempting to sandwhich him between herself and the wall. In her desperation, she forgot completely her own warning to avoid the creature's spikes.
The spikes - more like jagged plates - tore into the Golgoth's hides, rending her flesh. She snarled wetly, froth alighting on the mud beneath her feet.
Even as her ferocity turned to disbelief, her vision begin to fade. Different-Eudrace, indeed; the wild Eudrace in the grasslands could never amount to the controlled steel this creature was.
She quivered and slid to the mud, awash in her own blood. With a sigh she slipped to darkness.
((The Golgoth uses Bash... not that it really matters))

His teeth connected with the soft flesh of the monster's neck, blood pouring down his throat with the hit. It was something he almost missed. The fight, the battle, the blood, the emotions. Tuning out anything else, the Eudrace's attention was focused solely on the Golgoth. And then he was against the wall. Wriggling and squirming, Es fought back as hard as he could, shoving his spike against the soft flesh of her belly as she shoved him against the wall of the cave.
His spikes apparently did their job, the weight of the beast vanished as she dropped to the floor, a final sigh before slipping away in her own blood. Es sniffed and licked the blood from his chops, staring down at the monster through a red haze. The final battle, the end of it all...
ES! the command came, the voice smashing through the bloodlust rising up inside of him. Es blinked once, twice, and turned toward the source of the voice, muscles relaxing, though he hadn't known how tense they had become. Good boy Es, leave her alone now, Obsidion said, standing up again and walking over to the Eudrace, rubbing his snout and hugging him around his neck. His attention turned toward the cowering Wolthox as well, motioning her out from her hiding spot.
Cyove crept forward, tail between her legs as she stared at the Eudrace. She knew he was strong, but strong enough to take that down in only one hit...? It was impossible, and she knew she would have to learn even more things in order for her to beat him, eventually. Alright you two, time to find her nest... Obsidion told them both, rubbing Cy's head before motioning for them both to follow him deeper and deeper into the cave.

It might have been a disgusting cave, but hey - it had been home for a while.
At the rear, where the Golgoth had originally been heading, a victorious traveler might find a nest of eggs, grouped closely together... or they might find something more valuable.
Glinting subtly in a small pile are a collection of items usable for breeders.
Which will you choose, adventurer? The nest or the horde?

The young man paused, stopping them behind him as he stared at the small stash of things in front of him. He remembered the last time he'd gotten to the end of the lair, only to be faced with a decision. Only one, he could only pick one... The last time had been an easy decision, he'd picked up an egg, crooned to it, and then left with Es at his side. ...the egg hadn't hatched yet though, and he was beginning to wonder if it was a dud. Cy, as though picking up on his insecurity about the poor egg nestled in his bedroom back home, wound around the young man, licking his hand before she padded over to the nest and licked one of the eggs. Her eyes flicked back and looked at him questioningly, knowing she shouldn't ask the question, but let him come to his own decision. He knew Es would go to the other one, and with a quick glare made him stay in place. It was his decision to make, even though it was hard. The items next to the beautiful nest of eggs seemed to have a few items peeking out of it, and as he inspected them, he saw they could really work for him, in part of what he wanted to do in the Freehold. But another Golgoth egg... Obsidion's eyes flicked back and forth, touching the cool shell of the nearest egg before picking up a vial in the batch next to him, inspecting what was inside... He scowled and shook his head, he would have enough problems with the Golgoth egg he had already, if it would ever hatch, so he might as well go with the other... right? Obsidion grunted a little and picked up a few things from the stash before turning and leaving, motioning for both Es and Cy to follow him. Hopefully he wouldn't regret not taking an egg...
