The red squirrel is actually something from Norse mythology (Ri told me about it... last night maybe?), though I totally can't remember the name of it. He's a messanger who runs up and down the tree of the world, going between a dragon and... a wolf?

We call him Ratatosk in danish, I'm not sure if he has any other name in english. He brings information by going up and down the tree of the world, yes, and he in particular brings messages from the eagle to Nidhogg* and vice versa.

*Wwhich seems to be its english name from what I could find?.

...

If they're all supposed to be like 'mythical animals' as Ri said.

Then why a cold snake, a butterfly and an Eel? XD

See. I saw the suggestions and assumed mundane animals were generally well accepted.

Apparently I am wrong. ^^;

I will be of the brainstorming, in any case.

That's half of why I'm confused, Silv.

Although that does clear up the red squirrel question, thank you Obs and Josie. =)

All amulet spirits can be familiars; but not all familars are amulet spirits. Make sense?

Khesia- To clear things up.

The Veil/EA is my thing. The amulet spirits OOC were something -I- designed and thought up to have something I could really enjoy doing on MML. I wanted to make a WHOLE OTHER ADOPT-IT thing where people could adopt tiny mythological critters.

Instead, we modified it and decided they could be 'Amulet Spirits'! And then got all sorts of cute little ideas.

Spirit and I have this issue where occasionally he fails to communicate with me, or does so AFTER the fact, Which generally means I go to bed, wake up and he's changed the entire world. Or in this case, he posts a poll and then tells me 'I wanted to see what sort of amulets people wanted, kay? ;D'

Obsidion can attest to how much with the not-happy this made me. Mostly because -now- everyone -will- be confused, irritated, or unhappy that there won't be butterflies and the like.

So effectively, Ri-and-Spirit are two different minds. They do not always mesh, and Ri needed to remind Spirit and explain to everybody that while Spirit is encouraged to play with her toys, he cannot put the Cowboys-and-Indians with the Jungle Animals-and-Dinosaurs.

---

Woo! Vixen and I need to get together so I can pick her brain on stuff. And Ratatosk is <3 So much love that he has a whole tribe of gypsies somewhere far on the other end of this continent devoted to him. ;D

My translation of this?

Spirit owns site.
Spirit gives site to Ri (save for some basic artwork).
Ri starts running site.
Spirit has hard time making this transition, even if it's for the best.
Spirit plays in Ri's sandbox.
Ri gets mad.
Spirit goes back to doing stats for the upcoming war.

-hugs Spirit- We still love you, Papa, even if you DO play in Ri's Sandbox. <3 She's always there to clear it up, so it's all better.

Ah, it all makes sense now. *wise nod*

In that case, if the Amulets are indeed supposed to be legendary, mythical creatures, I rescind my objection to the use of the Thunderbird as an amulet spirit, and instead say that it would actually be a pretty darn nifty thing, 'specially since Ri'd do an awesome job with it. :)

Of things unknown, but longed for still;
And his tune is heard on the distant hill, for
The caged bird sings of freedom.

First off, I would appreciate it if I don't get my head bitten off when I didn't single anyone out, thanks. I've never heard of legends with foxes, and generally, in books I've read or whatever, I've heard of 'spirit wolves' way more than foxes. Never heard of foxes, in fact, so I thank you for not expecting me to know every single thing on a topic I don't care for. No reason to get defensive, if you're not at fault.
But you really can't deny people favor foxes and or wolves here. Whether or not -you- said it to jump on the bandwagon, the fact remains they're way over used and overrated, and they were suggested by more than one person.

That said, I no longer have an idea of what's going on other than these will not be amulet things, and Ri got mad at Spirit cause Spirit jumped the gun or something. XD So. I'll sit back and see what happens. Specially since I'm not a myth fanatic like most people here seem to be. ;-;

Far over, the misty mountains cold.
To dungeons deep, and caverns old.
The pines were roaring, on the heights.
The winds were moaning, in the night.

I know very well that this is most likely over, but may I suggest a Nekomata, maybe?

Nekomata are fork-tailed (two tailed) monster cats in Japanese folklore... But yeah.

Just had to suggest that.
