Only rumors had he heard of this place; ‘It is dark and eerie’, ‘Monsters rise from their graves’, ‘The smell of the place reeked’. Were they true? He hadn’t an idea, but he’d find out in time to come.

The boy had always feared the dark; or what was in the dark, more specifically. Every night he leaves the blinds open in the window, as to let in the light of the moon. The rumors had gotten him a bit nervous, so he decided to go to the graveyard during the day. It’d be okay then, wouldn’t it?

The Malii woke up that morning, knowing something special would happen that day. He sat up on the end of Riku’s bed, glad that he was even aloud to do that now, next to his warm feet. Now he didn’t have to spend his night sleeping in the chill hay piles. But most of all, he was glad to be able to spend more time with Riku; along with Pyre, Zarella, and Genesis.

A screeching laughter was all that was heard, other than a heart like thumping, which was felt more than heard. The only sight was a deep black rose, which shed its pedals as fast as a dog shed its fur. The sight, sound, and throb slowly intensified, more and more. The laughter grew louder higher, the rose grew darker and darker, and the throbbing grew denser and faster.

“EEHAHAHAHAHAHA!”

His eyes opened, and he sat up in bed. It was Halloween.

He peered at the clock: 9AM. If he was going to get to the Graveyard by half after noon, then he’d have to leave soon. “I guess we’d better get ready, eh?” Riku stated as he looked at Revelation. He scooted out of bed, and changed into something suitable. By the time he had gotten something to eat for himself, and the four Malii, along with brushing the Malii’s fur, it was noon. “It’s time to leave now, Revelation!” he exclaimed.

A kiss, a hug, a wave and a goodbye; they headed out the door. Today was a marvelous day, yet it didn’t quite faze Riku; he was a bit uneasy. It was as if a horrible day was masking itself to be a great one. He didn’t fall for it. Revelation at his side, they headed down the street towards the graveyard.

They reached Bread St.; Riku glanced at the street sign again. Someone had taped a piece of construction paper over the name of the street! The word ‘Dead’ was written on the paper. He looked back at the street, it looked pretty ‘dead’ itself. Surely by noon, there would be someone up and about? The only way he knew how to get to the graveyard from his house was to go down Bread St, and turn left down Brim St. He made his way down the street.

Although it was daytime, Riku felt very nervous, and fearful of what may happen. Everything would be fine, wouldn’t it? Wouldn’t it!?

“Tap-tap, tap-tap, tap…..tap.” Riku reached the entrance of the Graveyard. He shivered, as a cold breeze flew by. Peering around, he saw that the gate was originally black, yet mostly rusted now. The maples were not as jolly as most; it was dreary, and dying. The grass had faded, it was hardly green. The robin that set its nest upon the hensha bush to the side of the gate was no longer there. Instead the a intensely black crow had taken its place in the scratchy twig pile. The day had turned to dusk; was this just a coincidence? He slowly made his way in.

Revelation sat at Riku’s side, cautious. He was scared, but not entirely for himself; mostly for Riku. Something…bad…was here, but he couldn’t tell what. No matter what it was, it sent chills down his spine. He followed Riku in; close enough to touch his side at Riku’s as to comfort him, as well as to comfort himself.

The two of them crept past the gate, feeling a bit relieved; but not for long. As they exhaled a sigh of relief, they soon noticed that this ‘relief’ was not just; they were surrounded with tombstone upon tombstone, as far as one could see. They cringed at the reek of the place; rotten flesh was definitely among them. The light had become scarce now that it was limited to the moon, which was hidden by the scratchy trees. The scattered shrubs and bushes raked at his ankles and clothing; at one point tearing his scarf away from his neck. This place was not a pretty one, but he was here for a reason.

He made his way towards the back of the graveyard; the very back. This was there destination, and it was a long way still. Revelation peered around with immense caution now. He was sure that something was just not right.

They continued their frightening walk along the cemeteries path. Riku had forgotten that Revelation was there, at times, until he’d feel the warmth against his side again. The warm, fluffy fur made him feel a bit at ease; yet still not enough to settle his nerves. He’d shoot his head to the side, then the other, at the thought that something had moved. First here, then there! He felt as if he was being followed.

“What’s in the bump on your back?” questioned Revelation, speaking of the backpack Riku was unaware of. At the sound of this in his head, Riku shrieked in fear. He fell to the floor, gasping for air; he hadn’t expected a voice, nevertheless a voice in his head from his forgotten Malii. Calmed down a bit, he tried to answer the question. He grabbed the backpack and unzipped it. A flashlight, a blue glowing black cat mask, and some scraps of paper left over from school.

“I had forgotten that I had brought my backpack; nevertheless these.” Riku said, as he pat Revelation on the head. Revelation looked utterly confused.

By now they were sitting on the ground next to a few tombstones, and one giant one. The few closest to them had cracks through the names; illegible. They had moss creeping up the base of the stone, and ants scattered on them. The large tombstone behind them was shaped like an angel, she had wonderful hair, although it was stone, and her gown was beautifully detailed. There wasn’t a single insect, nor crack along the whole statue. The grass even seemed greener next to it; yet would not creep up it’s base.

The boy and his Malii felt comfortable, not giving even the slightest care of their surroundings. “This is a flashlight.” Riku stated, as to teach Revelation of its use. “You press this button…and” He pressed the button to reveal a bright light.

“…see? It makes a light!” Revelation jumped back at this. It was so…magical. How could this be!? He hadn’t the idea that Riku had even the slightest knowledge of magic; he didn’t even k now what it was. Oh, but Riku obviously did! He could control it in this odd-shaped yellow tube. This made him admire him even more then he had.

“You are…magical!” Revelation stated. “How do you do this...this …magic!?”

“It is not magic, it is called technology. It is very complicated and, trust me, I did not create this, I just use it to help me see.” Riku replied as he flashed the light on the line of ants next to them. Revelation went to investigate the ants, and then came back and sat down. Riku turned the flashlight off, and put it back in his backpack. He saw a glow at the bottom of his backpack, even without looking inside he knew it was the Cheshire mask.

A smile grew upon his face, as a cloud snuck in front of the moon. He pulled the glowing mask out of the bag, and dusted it off. “You see this?” Riku said at last “This is a Blue Glowing Cheshire Cat Mask. I found it last Halloween; it was in a bush, hidden deep within.” He watched as it got darker and darker. Finally, he put it on, hiding his face, and head from Revelation; fore it was so dark you couldn’t see him at all. His black clothes made not a shine, his face nor skin not a highlight in the night. He was invisible.

Revelation watched as the black mask was brought out of the bag, and put on Riku’s face. He heard the words of the boy, but didn’t understand them fully. He watched as his owner disappeared; yet he had not a fear. Riku would never leave him, he would never harm him, and he wouldn’t ever do anything negative towards him. Riku was good, and loved him just and he loved Riku.

Riku sat down, as silent as possible, fore he didn’t want Revelation to know where he was, even though he was right in front of him. He slowly reached his hand up to the back of his head, and pressed the button on the back of the strap. The Cheshire’s face lit up a neon blue, with a skeletal feature. He watched as Revelation’s face lit up, both with the light, and with amazement.

Revelation stayed sitting, and waited for Riku to show up again. He knew he wasn’t very far at all; he was so loud when he wanted to be quite! The Malii waited, and waited, and finally saw it. A bright blue skeletal figure of the a Cheshire cat. It must have been Riku! He had seen Riku holding it, and even though he hadn’t been shown what the glowing part looked like, he had seen it in Riku’s room, hung up. The mask would sometimes go off at extremely random times and he would see it lit up that way.

Revelation pawed at Riku's 'snout'. "Silly!" They laughed, and Revelation put his paw back on the floor. "You know, you are always really loud when you try to be quiet." He looked Riku in the eyes, he loved him so much! Riku could see the loving mood on Revelations face, and he felt the same. Riku had loved Revelation as long as he had known him. He loved that Malii from the moment he got him from the labs; there was an immediate connection. From the few cute incidents at home, to the training in the park, to this very moment as they spoke through a Magical Ribbon Of Telepathy. This relationship would last a very long time. Riku took the mask off, put it in the bag.

It was still pretty dark, so he got his flashlight out. They looked around, and realized that they were still in the graveyard; yet this time they weren't as scared. It was as if their comical bonding had decimated the eerie feeling of nervousness.

The boy and his Malii then head over to their destination. They walked, casual as one might be when walking through the mall; as long as they are not extremely feminine and carrying shopping bags over their shoulder while swaying their hips from side to side as they did so. It was their normal walk, as they did in their daily lives. Their fear had been exiled, and their laughter had been brought back.

Revelation still hadn’t an idea of where their destination was; he hadn’t thought about it. Riku hadn’t told him, and Revelation wasn’t even for sure if they were going to a specific place, or not. He merely followed. He glanced around at the various shapes of tombstones. He didn’t even know what they were, or what they meant; he just passed by them, paying attention to their conditions. Based on these conditions, he could try to figure out how old they were.

Revelation couldn’t really find a pattern, of any sort; unless randomness was a pattern, there was none. There would be a group of old, then new, and after a while of new, there would be a group of old, then extremely old, and then back to new. In the groups of new or old, there were always the oddballs. There would be an array of new, then one immensely ancient tombstone in a group of the shiniest of the lot. There would also be tombstones that were probably put in that week, in a section of really old ones.

The grass was different for a lot of the graves as well. Some had fresh, new grass that had been raised a bit above the ground; these were for the newest of tombs. There were also ones that had dead grass, or almost no grass at all; these were for the older ones. Every so often he would see a very old tomb, with newer grass; it had obviously replaced the old grass.

On most of the grass in front of the cold stone you could see dying flowers, and dirty pictures. Sometimes there would even be food that was being devoured by insects; these must have been those people’s favorite foods.

Tired of tombstone watching, Revelation looked for something else to waste time doing. He knew that they weren’t close to where they might have been going, so he figured he’d do something else. Finally, he decided to watch the trees that they passed, and point out the strange features to himself.

The first victim was a tall, slender tree, with a white trunk and pink flowers. It had a strange indent in it’s trunk near to bottom end, that looked as if someone had cut out a chunk of the tree. It obviously wasn’t a cut, but the deformity had lines that were really straight. Revelation moved on to another tree, as he passed the first; tall, slender, but this time with a dark brown trunk, and leaves each with a different shade of orange.

This tree had an oddball branch, which had only purple leaves, like a plum tree. Moving on, Revelation found a tree that was short, and fat, with a grey-brown trunk. This tree had several nails in it, as if it had been turned into some sort of bulletin tree.

On to the next tree! This one was tall, and slender. It had a white trunk with pink fl- wait, hadn’t he already seen a tree like this? He gave it a closer look, and saw a large indent, that looked as if someone had cut a chunk out of it. Was this just a coincidence? Perhaps someone was going around cutting chunks out of all of this tree type. He moved on to the next: tall, slender, dark brown, with orange leaves. It also had a branch full of purple leaves. Was this really a coincidence? And another: short, fat, grey-brown, with many nails punched into it.

Was this a coincidence? By now Revelation knew that is was not. They must have been going in circles!

The wind starts to pick up, the trees rattling angrily, a low moan echoing over the vast graveyard, engulfing everything.

Just as the wind stops, and you think everything's back to normal, the moon is covered with clouds and the world seems to go black.... It's only for an instant, a second at the most, before the moon's light prevails.

They were with you just a second ago, weren't they? Or was that just shadows playing tricks on you? Where did your pet go? You turn around, twisting in the darkness to spot them, but only dead leaves, withered grass, twisted trees and tombstones are to be found... And then, you can hear their pain-filled shriek! You race toward their cry in the darkness, leaping over gnarled roots as you fly toward them! Only to find them bleeding on the ground, as a dark... THING slips away into the darkness...

(Your pet is down to 1/2 their stamina immediately and must be healed before it can be played with again.)
