((I don’t like this so much, and will probably go back to fix some things later…))

Name: Hai En'La (No meaning)
Age: 16
Nation: Obviously Fire, though she grew up in the Earth Kingdom
Bender: Lightning/Fire

Appearence:
When you think of a fire bender, the appearance that comes to mind is the usual. Pale skin, golden eyes, dark, luxurious hair. But with Hai, these looks are off. Her skin is the color of honey and spice, giving a healthy glow to the usual opaque look of a fire-bender, and her hair is a shocking golden blonde in shade, strange anywhere on the Earth-she had no idea where it came from-though it definitely points her out in a crowd, and because of it she was subjected to much picking on when she was younger, so she had dyed it the color of pitch with some ink…but even that had eventually washed out. Her eyes are large and exotic looking, the color of molten silver.

It this wasn’t enough to make her an oddity in the land of Earth-benders, her body is the small and lithe form of someone with fire-bender blood; with not too many curves, and she tries to hide her lean, dancer’s build with baggy clothing and almost no jewelry. Sometimes, when stealing or doing other misdeeds, she makes herself look like a boy-by tucking her shoulder-blade length hair up into a cap and smudging her face with dirt to hide her delicate bone structure, high cheekbones, and obviously girlish eyes.

Personality:
Hai sadly suffers from a multiple personality disorder, something that made her life much more difficult when she was growing up in the streets of Ba Sing Se. Her first personality, who calls herself Lai (Lie) is the cruel, heartless persona who is in want for more and more power, never content with her place in the world. It is the one that keeps on trying to force her way to the front of Hai’s mind, though she isn’t suppose to be there, and Hai’s pretty sure that Lai is just an angered spirit trying to use her body to get revenge on the world…and Hai knows she cannot fight this darker side of herself. Her real personality though, because of Lai and others continual put-downs, is shy and quiet, with a proneness to stuttering and tripping over her own two feet when scared, the complete opposite of Lai, sweet and kind. This is the Hai whose around more often then not, as Lai usually doesn’t force her way out of Hai’s head unless the latter is under extreme conditions of stress, pressure, or an immense amount of anger. Then there’s heck to be paid.

History:
Hai grew up scum on the streets of Ba Sing Se, always teased about her weird looks and shy demeanor. “Freak” was her most common nick-name, and she held it with pride.
Being an orphan, with not the faintest idea of whom her parents were, Hai grew up with the notion she was a girl of Earth people descent…and oh how wrong that assumption came to be.

It had started out a normal day, when she had seen 14 summers already in her life. Scrounging around for bits of bread and gold, pick-pocketing many richer looking people walking the streets, when she had touched the purse of someone she shouldn’t of. She was heaved up by her slender arm to be inquired of by a very stern looking Earth Nobleman, her hood falling off and her covered hair showing to everyone in that moment. Intrigued, the man asked her business, sneaking around in other people’s purses. She just shook her head silently, over and over again, trying to feign stupidity or the like, getting more and more scared as the man’s face turned redder and redder.

“I ASKED YOU-DON’T SHAKE YOUR HEAD AT ME GIRL!!! I ASKED YOU WHY YOU WERE GOING INTO MY-”

But her stop at that moment when a change seemed to come over the almost placid girl, her once nervous, warm looking eyes turning almost frostlike, her whole demeanor transforming in an instant as she even held herself higher in the man’s ox-like grip. She grabbed on to the hands that had been holding her up, and the man dropped her instantly, cradling his now injured hand as if it were burned. And it had been, the ugly black mark still sizzling in the heat. The crowd that had begun to form around them shuffled nervously before Hai-or should we say Lai-finally spoke.

“Don’t touch me. Ever. Again. Or that breath will be your last.”

With that she whirled around and the blue fire leapt from her finger tips, as natural as breathing, slashing across the man’s forearm as he fell backwards in the nick of time, or it would have hit him where she had been aiming for-his heart.

“FIREBENDER!!”

The people had started to scream, and Hai, who’d been able to summon lighting her first try, and not knowing what it was, had to force herself into hiding in the out-skirts of the great-walled city, afraid of herself. For two years she lived on, cheating death in more ways then one, loosing herself as Lai became stronger and stronger. Then the Fire nation came for the last push and conquered her “home”, the walls that had been her sanctuary crumbling down. Free from prejudice and curious as to what fate had in store for her next, Hai left her hermitage of a refuge and entered the Fire Nation army, wanting to know not only who her parents were, but what her true past was. She was still rough with her lightning bending when she began her official training, and to this day she is still trying to master her ablility without Lai's assistance, though her agility from dancer training earlier on in life, and the nimbleness of her thief’s instinct grant her a deadly style of fighting uniquely her own. Her lightning is strong, but she is still somewhat afraid of it's power. And that which we are afraid of now, we cannot master.
Yet, she feels she is ready now, to serve her “true” people, and to discover herself.

And if she came upon the avatar along the way…she presumed Lai would take care of him.

Anything else:
The reason Hai can use lighting without excessive training is because as we remember from the actually shows, lighting is created by balancing all the forces in oneself, both good and evil. Since Hai has both her “good” and “evil” personality, they balance each other and thus make lighting a natural bending technique for her over fire. Though, she still has trouble using it without letting Lai take over.

Everything looks really well done, so bravo on that. And I appretiate how you went on to explain why she can control lightening. My only concern is that she has accomplished it at such a young age. The characeters that we have seen bending it have had extensive training and seem to be genetically gifted. (Like Azula having the best training at her fingertips and being the great grandaughter of Sozin and Roku.) So maybe make it a less controled talent of hers, perhaps showing how she still needs practice at it.
