une interview et un article concernant Unscripted 2
| QUOTE | When Patrick Dempsey launched his first scent, Unscripted, late last year, I have to admit I was skeptical of another celebrity fragrance hitting the market. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle, clean scent, and even Mr. Bella — whose idea of a fun night out involves climbing mountains and camping in the woods sans showers — is a fan.Patrick has been bitten by the fragrance bug once again. The launch of his latest scent, Patrick Dempsey 2 ($30), pays tribute to the intimacy between two people. (That’s his wife in the ad campaign.) Expect to see at least two more fragrance launches from Patrick in the future, but in the meantime, check out my one-on-one interview (sigh) with the sexy actor when you read more.
We actually really enjoy your Unscripted at home, and now my boyfriend wears it. Jill [Patrick's wife, and Avon's Global Creative Color Director] is always bringing product home that I have to try.
Oh yeah, especially the lip gloss, right? Only if it’s cold and my lips are chapping.
And if it’s the right color. That’s right. (Laughs)
Just like Unscripted was about following your passions, what is Patrick Dempsey 2 all about? I think it’s about the inspiration you get from being in a relationship, and the power that comes from that, and the strength, and the vulnerability as well. It’s the struggle in a relationship. It’s hard to get the time to keep growing in a relationship. You need time together, especially if you have children or you’re working all the time. How do you find time for a date night? And so that’s the whole concept behind 2.
This time around, what were your must haves and have-nots for this scent? 2 is a much bolder scent. Its classification would be an oriental-spicy. The different notes we had this time are a little stronger. It’s a little calmer, too. I think that’s the different direction than what we had than with Unscripted. For me, I really love the top notes. And when you put it on, the saffron, the nutmeg, and the mandarin, are really nice and it really pops; it’s very bold at the beginning. Then it starts to calm down. It’s a great calming cologne.
What made you decide to do another fragrance with Avon? We just had such a good time with the first one. And they were like, “Are you interested in doing another one?” and we’ve got some more coming in the future that we’re already working on. I really love the process. I love the team. I just really enjoy it and the challenge that it presents creatively. It’s like, “How do you come up with something you really like, and keep pushing it a little bit, and staying within the price points that we need to stay in?” So it’s a great challenge.
What kind of scents do you like on a woman? Nothing that’s too overpowering. There’s nothing worse than getting in the elevator and having someone that has way too much cologne on. I really like it when it’s subtle and it brings you to them. I think that’s the best approach.
Do you have certain memories that you associate with the scents in this fragrance? Are there certain reasons you selected what you did? The olibanum is a really interesting scent because you find that a lot in churches. It’s a calming smell, and that’s something that reminds me of my childhood, and then the patchouli is another interesting smell that people kind of go either way with. In context with the cologne, it’s not as powerful. It’s not like the patchouli-based smell with someone who’s wearing Birkenstocks walking around. It’s just a beautiful scent, and I think it’s completely misunderstood. Also, the fresh fig I find really really appealing . . . It reminds me of Italy . . . There’s something very sensual and sweet about it. So, putting all those scents together and finding the balance is very important.
How do you feel when you wear a scent? In Europe, people wear a lot more cologne than they do here in America. It’s another way of presenting yourself. It enters the room before you and lingers when you leave, and I think that’s an interesting thing. Hopefully, it’s something that people are enjoying, and it’s really great in the sense that when you spray it on, when people go, “What is that scent? I really like that.” It sort of brings them to you. It’s another way of dressing, I think.

| QUOTE | On the heels of Unscripted, Patrick Dempsey’s first foray into the fragrance world a little less than a year ago, comes Patrick Dempsey 2.
The actor’s second fragrance, which Avon launched earlier this month, is a sophisticated evolution of his first. “Both of the fragrances are aspects of me, but this one is more complex, says Dempsey. “It pushes it a little further — it’s bolder, not as sweet, and more spicy.”
Dempsey loves creating scents — and in an industry where many stars slap their names on juices for an easy profit, his involvement is refreshing. We interviewed Dempsey about his first scent, Unscripted, and his exuberance was contagious – he described raiding Barney’s and buying twenty of his favorite scents to study the notes and the bottles.
Now more seasoned, Dempsey has traded his wide eyed newcomer persona for that of a fragrance insider. It’s the nuances of scent creation — and the emotions fragrance evokes — that are sparking his interest this time around.
“I really enjoy the overall process of creating a scent,” Dempsey explained. “You learn that the top, middle and base notes play like a song, and if you change just one note it can either improve or disrupt the melody.”
“Unscripted is about the individual, while Patrick Dempsey 2 is about coming back to the person who makes you feel special; it’s about the importance of a union,” he said. “This scent evokes the feeling of strength and intimacy you experience with the person you love.”
The scent is no doubt inspired by his relationship with wife Jillian Dempsey, a beauty industry icon who started as a Hollywood makeup artist (the two met on set), created the cult favorite Delux Beauty line, and is currently Avon’s Global Creative Color Director.
With three children and busy careers, keeping their relationship strong is a huge focus. “It’s hard to find a date night and steal those moments together,” he said.
Ironically, work has actually helped the Dempseys spend more time together. “Working with Avon brings Jill and I together, and it’s really fun because it’s not so much work as it is creative play.”
The two appeared in front of the camera together for the first time for the advertising campaign for Patrick Dempsey 2, pictured above. “It’s fun to be in front of the camera with my wife,” he said. “It was neat to see the different sides of each others personalities in front of the camera.”
With top notes of saffron and mandarin, middle notes of green fig and spiced wood, and base notes of patchouli and skin musk accord, Patrick Dempsey 2 serves up some totally new notes, while doing new things with Dempsey’s old favorites. “Some of my favorite notes from Unscripted, fig and patchouli, appear again in this fragrance with a darker, more mysterious effect – it’s a completely different way to wear the notes
