Our last couple of rigs have been toyhauler 5'vers.
One of the main reasons for this is we like the open floorplan so we can spread out and be comfortable, aside from being able to take some of our "toys" with us from time to time. Generally we don't take much along and use the extra space for a "livingroom" and also an area for the three parrots. But when heading off into the bush we do add the ATV to the rig and if we are going to places we want to poke around in doing the tourist sightseeing thing in towns we take our Yamaha BWS scooters. Having the ability to take these items along adds to the overall fun of the trip by being able to tailor your toys to the type of event. Heck, we even used the space to move LadyJay's son and daughter-in-law once, from one Province to another! On the way out to where they were for this event, we had a 8'x4' utility trailer in the back which they then towed out behind their small truck with the goodies that wouldn't fit in the ToyBox. The one thing I did do was design and build a frame and winch system that allows the door to be openned and closed easily. It sits flush against the wall on one side and does not stick out into the room any wider than the 2" door frame does. The electric winch I'm using is attached to it in a way that makes it removeable and able to be put into a reciever hitch if one needs a light (2500lb) winch. Certainly gets some looks when you power down and power up a tailgate on one of these in a campground. |

I figured you need another post here so you can do your job!!! hahahahahahaha
I started with a bumper pull toy hauler as I could fit my powered parachute in the garage and have my hotel with me. The problem was my ppc was too long and I had to leave the door open between the garage and living quarters. Still the setup worked well for when I towed to and camped at a field suitable for flying. I ran into a problem however when I camped at state park or other campground as I would have to break camp and tow the bedroom to the airport to be able to fly. I ended up leaving the ppc at home more often than not and the garage turned into a huge dog crate for us! I ended up chosing our current 5er and added a well built hitch to tow the ppc trailer behind for those times where I can or want to fly in combination with our camping. Before I sold the TH it did make it out on several pheasant hunting trips and one elk hunting trip. That worked out well for us to have the garage for cold storage for the elk meat while we stayed warm in the camper. I almost went with a 5er TH but decided to separate the hauler from the camper. There.....you have toyhauler post number 2! :D |

Well thank you for joining in!
Yes, there are limitations as found in pretty nearly every "multi use" arena. The option of a second unit is great, in those places that allow towing two trailers. Here, in BC, that isn't an option. We haul a quad or small aluminum boat in ours fairly often. Great hunting and fishing setup. As we have the truck to pull our 5'ver moving the boat around isn't an issue. |
