1997 3500 crew cab LWB.

Lift pump replaced 2000.
IP replaced under warranty in 2000.

Truck ran fine til last week.

I got into some "vintage" fuel we had stored and filled tank. Around 5 years old.
Ran it through a filter device and water remover filter.
Added about 3/4 tank of the "old" fuel into truck tank.

Replaced fuel filter same time in case of any debris or trash.

Truck ran fine for a few days, then started to just "die" while driving.
Thought it might be fuel, so I filled AGAIN with new fuel from about 1/2 tank to "dilute" the old with good.
Also added "diesel power fuel treatment with cetane booster" just in case.

I kinda think this is "incidental" because the truck runs fine on the fuel for part of the time, then just has a "fit" at other times.

Truck ran fine yesterday and last night to work and home, and then to walmart and home.

This evening, ran fine to work, but died 3 times when i went out to get supper.
Died after work while in parking lot idling.... TWICE.
Died on way home THREE times, and had a few very detectable "miss" (lurch) episodes while at speed of 50mph or so.

Also, it seems to have a problem moreso on downhill/uphill grades while stopping. But not sure since it also died sitting at stop light.

Oh yeah, ..... it also started this tonight while i was accelerating kinda heavy on a straight line down road... but that may have been same as going uphill.

Lift pump runs audibly.
Fuel "squirts" out of the filter vent when opened and key turned on (without starting engine).
Fuel flows from water drain when open and idling, engine does not die with drain open.

Yes, i could have gotten air in system when i changed filter, but have "bled" several times since i changed and this started.

(one thing i have NOT checked is the filter gasket to be sure it's not kinked or messed up when i installed.)

I am thinking NOW that it may be trash in filter housing screen, a failing "intermittant" LP, or clogged "snot sock".
(but won't dismiss bad fuel)

I also treated the "old" fuel with algaecide.
In fact, i used a "double dose" just to make sure it killed the slime and gunk.

You could have easily clogged the new fuel filter or it could be a fuel pump issue. I had similar symptoms from an older GMC 454 which turned out to be the fuel pump.

If you are having electrical issues and have an electric fuel pump, they may be related.

How cold is it? You might be getting some gelling.

I've never had much issue with old fuel if the storage has been good (well sealed and in clean containers)

Could have a bad filter right out of the box too, have run into that before.
