BZP closed to new members?, is this true?

I heard BZP was not accepting new members, is this true? I was talking to my sister about Bionicle and she suddenly wanted to join BZP. I was banned so I haven't been there in a while but she made her account and stuff and it needs to get verified now. I don't know where but she says she read that they were no longer accepting new members. Does anyone know anything about this? Is it true? Why did they stop? Do you think if I emailed Black Six he'd make an exception? Bionicle could really use new fans....

I don't know where your sister got this from, but seeing as BZP's most recently signed-up member is from today, it's certainly false.

Of course there is the small matter of why a Bionicle fan these days would want to be there, seeing as from what I've seen it's no longer a very good place for Bionicle discussion. But that's a subject for another thread wink.gif

Maybe you were IP banned, so you couldn't just create another profile from the same computer and pass yourself off as someone else, so your sister appears to be "you," a banned location, to their forums.

I'm not sure she could persuade them to let her in. It seems unlikely that they would be sympathetic without conclusive proof. Saying she's your sister may only raise suspicions.

...And yeah, I prefer another site for Bionicle discussion, mostly because they're so off-topic that Bionicle makes an interesting change around there. There's some great MOCs on BZPower, though the discussion of MOCs tends to be better here.[/advertising]

It's not impossible to get unbanned from BZP, or at least it wasnt before, dont know how their policies work today and that was years ago that it happened to me. Ive been banned and unbanned myself after a misunderstanding. The gist of it was when I first came to MOD I made a topic with a poorly chosen tittle and asking about something a BZP staffer did. Even though it was off their website and I didnt mean them any harm, they took it as a sign I might suddenly start causing them trouble on their own site. When they caught up to me and banned me for it, and once I found out it was that topic I made, I edited the topic and added in an apology, explaining I never ment them any harm by what I said.

Unfortunatley its not easy to get a BZP staffers attention once youve been banned, they often dont have the time to go back and review everyone for a second chance, and theyve probably got an IP ban on you like Takal suggested.

Not to mention there is a minority of voices over there who decided all of a sudden that Bionicle was crap and like to air that view whenever a suitable thread shows up.

I stopped actually talking about Bionicle on BZP somewhere around 2009-10 so I haven't personally contended with that crowd, but having read a few topics featuring them I can see how it would get old real fast.

Almost edited your post there...

No, I meant the other site's off-topic. BZP still has much more on-topic conversations than... say... us.

BZP has long been the stiffs-in-suits of the Bionicle fandom; never much liked the atmosphere there. Doesn't surprise me that some of the people there are too cool for their own site.

They aren't closed to new members - I've recently gotten an account back - but the bigger question is why in the world you'd let your sister anywhere near that site. tongue.gif

Waoh. Wait, is this site like an anti-BZP site or something? I mean I guess a lot of people here would be like me: banned from BZP so this is the next best thing. But start from the beginning, I got banned probably weeks after Bionicle officially ended. Is BZP not a Bionicle fan site anymore? What did you mean exactly about this "minority group?" What did they do? I agree that the rules there are VERY strict, my younger self despised them. But after seeing some other forums, I'd do anything to go back. No joke. And it is kinda the number one Bionicle fan site. My sister started asking certain questions I couldn't quite answer so I pointed her there.

Oh, and thanks for the answers everyone. Appreciate it. I think she got it working. smile.gif

These days it tends to be more of a general Lego fansite, but with some Bionicle focus still left. However, there are certain members there who have convinced themselves that Bionicle was terrible. There wouldn't be much of a problem with that except they tend to be dicks about it, flaming people and all. As you might imagine, they tend to be at odds with the 'BRING BACK BIONICLE' crowd (another, pretty self-explanatory minority group).

We are not an anti bzp website, and I try to support them and think of them as neighbors with similar interests as best as I can. Many of the members here have also been on BZP, a number of which have been banned. I try my best not to let bzp disccussions turn into bzp bashing topics, and this is just barely starting to get there, so I hope you guys will understand if I wind up deciding to remove this topic.

It is my understanding that BZP gets a bad reputation for having to maintain strict rules to keep the forum clean of things innapropriate for their younger readers and to manage the thousands of members who visit the forums each day. They often dont take the risk and ban members at the first sign of disobediance to the rules, and they often dont have the time to go back and review people to be unbanned. A good number of people often wind up not even understanding why they got banned despite never intentionaly trying to do the site any harm.

I will understand if you close this topic for bashment against BZP and I will thank you if you do. And I will try not to bash your neighbors in the mean time.

I was actually surprised at how long I got away with pushing the line with the admins there. Which was a mistake. I didn't know they still had so many members, I would think the site would slow down after Bionicle ended.

How is it that these anti-Bionicle members are allowed loose in the forums though? That one really does bug me. It seems to go against what BZP was striving for and I don't want to have to beat up some poor stupid kid for being a jerk to my sister XP.

What happened to the bring back Bionicle group? When I left, that's all that anyone was pretty much. I mean a lot of people surprisingly got over the fact that it ended and the flaming against Bionicle for ending it only lasted like a week. Then everyone got their cool and either got into Hero Factory or latched on to what GregF said about Star Trek. I thought the point of BZP after that was to keep a Bionicle fan-base going to show Lego we were still here. Everyone was talking about Bionicle: Next Generation and all that. Did all that die? Am I the only one left???

Far from the only one, but they've sort-of quietened down now, as it's been made clear that if Bionicle does come back, it won't be soon.

Most of 'em, anyway. (I'm not naming names, it's obvious to anyone who cares anyway)

Used to be somewhat anti-BZP (only in the matter vs antimatter sort of way), but mostly in terms of the differing characters.
BZP has always been very strict about guidelines (some of which I take issue with), where MoD has actually evolved its rules somewhat (we can use the word "crap," for example).
From what I recall, we've had a lot of focus on RPGs and miscellaneous discussion for awhile, whereas BZP had slightly more general story-related discussion.

If there are any vengeful spirits who take issue with BZP, it's out of a) loyalty to MoD (mostly occurs in oldies) and/or b)disdain for the environment over there. It's as good site, to be sure, but I think the reason they kept the member count up is because of the exclusivity of the community due to some of those weird guidelines - some of which, when I was there, violated some of my country's constitutional freedom (no religious quotes in signatures, which MoD's never cared about).

So the answer is sort of.

It's strange to compare the old proboard MoD to tTH. They have pretty much the same absence of rules, yet on tTH it somehow worked. There's enough respect between the members that they've only had to ban... how many was it? four members? for disorderly conduct, and most of the waffle only happens in the shoutbox.

Still, I think the system here's safer for the nature of the forums. Also, the admins don't keep changing my font colour...
