@fire: The Huna glitch I'm aware of, but I'm having some trouble fixing it due to the way masks are listed in the code. I might have to slap on some crude circumvention to get rid of it.

@Arctic: BZP is still accepting new members just fine (the member list shows join dates every day this past week), so I dunno what you are talking about there.

I'm glad you like my game, and yeah, I do offer some Game Maker coding help; though that is better suited for PM. smile.gif

EDIT: Finally updated topic with the BZP version of it. Version 9.5 is now available here too.

I can confirm it doesn't work on Wine on Linux Mint.

That was quite the crash.

Has any BZP account registered from your household's network ever been banned? If so that might be branding your new registration attempt as a duplicate account. Otherwise I dunno what to tell you, since as said there have been new members lately and so it's not a general site issue, it seems.

You need help with basically everything from scratch, then? In that case I'd suggest you first start by going through the tutorials provided with the program, especially the one about platformers. Then there are also plenty of resources and examples on the Game Maker Community in order to learn specifics.

I can still walk you through the basics, if you want, but mke sure that you have the game planned out in advance. This game was planned in detail, but even that didn't help once new stuff started to be added. Internally, my code is inefficient and kinda inflexible. I'll be rewriting a lot of it in order to add certain things. If you want to avoid that, make sure you know what your player should be able to do beforehand. For example, programming just running and jumping first and then adding a special slide move later can be hard. It would then be better to have it from the get-go.

Okay I think I managed to get into bzp.

Anyways I would love to keep on asking advice from you but can we PM each other about that. I'm a bit afraid that I'm slightly getting off-topic cuz this topic is about your game, not mine.

Woah there, no need to quote the entire first post. ohmy.gif

New version will have some new stuff, yeah. Exactly what is a bit hard to say, but there's been some trouble with loading settings and character files that I'll have to look into. I'm also planning to make a new engine on the side that I will later port the current game over to. Should improve a lot of things.

Meanwhile, check the final few pages of the BZP topic and my blog for some game design and sprite reveals. Plus, the Dropbox gallery.

I have no idea how Linux even works, so I don't know what I'd do to make it "Linux-ready". My Game Maker version only exports Windows EXEs anyways.

Although I'm impressed by your game, I can't say I enjoy the gameplay much. I think I just have to wait until it's complete because it's very unbalanced in its current state.

Fair enough. You are right in that there are some rather glaring issues here and there, which can be blamed partly on missing features like multi-direction melee, regular blocking, roll/dodge/crouch etc. and partly on bad code. Most elements fire out of nowhere, which gives you less time to dodge and allows an AI player to just chase you down with Lightning that hits instantly while you can't even dodge properly.

Being able to shield should improve survivability, having slight start-up lag for elemental projectiles should make them a bit less spammy, and adding a proper scoring system should make the game feel better overall.

Oh, and some revision in stats and status effects and stuff. Lots to do still. tongue.gif

Just wondering, when you finish the Toa and Rahkshi code, are you going to do the Bohrok and others like the Piraka, Zyglak, Glatorian, Barraki. And are you planning to also incorporate vehicles like the Jetrax.

@Arctic: I don't think they would work in a game like this. Skakdi use their elemental powers in a strange way. Glatorian don't use them at all. Barraki have very narrow selection of powers and don't forget that they aren't one species. Vehicles are a cool idea but I don't know if there are Rayg sprites of them. And Zyglak... seriously? tongue.gif
I'd rather suggest Bohrok and Makuta.

@Katuko: A couple of things I didn't mention in my previous post:
- Why are the sprites so blurry? If it's intentional, I must say it doesn't look good at all. It ruins all these beautiful details Rayg's sprites have.
- Is there a way to change the color palette in the 'character' section? I think you should limit it a bit and change these generic, mspaint-ish colors to the official LEGO ones, preferably labeled with their names. And if I were you I would assign the colors to their respective elements to prevent people from creating e.g. yellow Toa of Air or blue Toa of Fire.
- I can help you with some minor graphics and programming.
- I can also translate your game to my language.

But then I wouldn't be able to create white/yellow male Toa of electricity and tan/silver female Toa of plasma.

And then there would be Problems.

That said, I still haven't dual-booted Windows on this, so it's not like I'll be playing again any time soon.

- I can help you with some minor graphics and programming.
- I can also translate your game to my language.

- The sprites are blurry because the game is scaled to 150% at the moment. This was done to make things appear larger and thus easier to look over, while not making you able to see 5 miles around you. Of course, it also looks pretty bad, so I will add view size as an option.

- You can literally mix any color that your computer can handle; just reduce saturation if you feel the need to. Right-click the element button to set a character to the "official" colors of that element. I might write my own color picker later, but I can guarantee that it won't be much different.

I kind of want to limit the colors to canon, in some way, but in another I do not. One of the major reasons I made this game was to have a game where you can make almost any character you want, so blue Toa of Fire will probably stay, despite the incosistency in terms of color. In fact, the only reason you can't have blue fire as well is that it's the powers that need to be distinct, not the character. It's not like the colors will surprise anyone for more than a few seconds when you first meet them, anyways, and mask powers + potential use of Rahkshi staffs or other weapons can emulate powers.

- I'm always happy to get help with some sprites, backgrounds, music, etc; but I will have to do most of the programming myself. It just gets messy otherwise. If you're skilled with making multiplayer games in Gamer Maker 8, however (particularly the Faucet Networking DLL), I'd be more than happy to get some help there. Screen distortions and light systems from surfaces without killing FPS would also be nice to get some help with. I have a forum I can ask for help, and plenty of examples on the web, but having someone who actually knows these things that I can discuss privately with could help.

For now, I need missing Rayg poses for Rahkshi, and some other stuff, if anyone would like to help with that.

- Translation is OK, but considering that all the text is hard-coded (or worse, hard-labeled onto the graphics), it's not really possible to do a translation without making a copy of the project. In that case, my work increases a lot per language. It will stay English.

To be fair, I do have a few years more experience than you, my code is somewhat messy even as a one-man team, and I have most of the programming skills I'll need already. What I might need help with, I would need to ask some pros about anyways. Therefore, I'm a solo programmer with a few outsourced tasks here and there.

Pretty nice sprite, that, at least. Way too big for these sprites, though. tongue.gif

Regarding sprites, here, have a gander at some upcoming graphics.

9 years? Earlier than me, then, at least when it comes to computer games.

Lately I've been working on sound effects for this game, by the way. Sounds make everything come alive, sort of.
