Title: Nogemi Workshop
nikki - August 20, 2008 10:00 AM (GMT)
Created back in the day, the image of the nogemi has changed over the years. Overall, the race as a whole is extremely unappealing, and it shows. This is a race I have tweaked for years, but never have I been satisfied with the result. Just now, I realized that I was the only person that ever typed up the description and jobs. Why shouldn't it be a group effort? In this thread, we will perfect this race as a community.
Feel free to make suggestions and comment on my current work. I want this race to be appealing to every single member so that everyone may be inspired to create one.
Nogemi are shorter than humans, but taller than moogles. Facially, the nogemi have a distinct feminine build, and it can sometimes be difficult to differentiate the males from the females. Overall, their facial structure can be described as a combination of the smallness of moogles and the slenderness of the viera.
They are most recognized for the single horn on top of their head, their cat-like tail which grants superior balance, and their extremely powerful legs, which make them the fastest of all the races and the most adept at footwork. Normally hairless or almost hairless from the neck down, the nogemi have a refined body and skin that have been genetically perfected over centuries, minimizing air resistance to the smallest decimal to even further improve their natural quickness. Head hair is uncommon; however, some of the less competent nogemi grow their hair for personal appearance. Any sort of head hair is usually limited to short cut styles, although females tend to grow their hair long, inspired by the beauty of humans and viera of the same gender.
Their arm strength is relatively weak in strength compared to their legs, but that is not to say they cannot become upper bodily strong. Because of their religion, most Nogemi are practitioners of the martial arts, dancing, and theater work. They’re magically inferior to most races, including the bangaas.

Some sort of drawing or picture would probably make the concept a whole lot livelier. But then again, i can't draw >__>

Well, they have the horn, don't they?

If they're magically inferior, explain why. Bangaa mages are different in that they have different vocal chords, so they can't chant most spells that other races can. However, that is to say they have specific spells that they can cast easier than others due to that.
Some other races in some games/fantasies, such as FFXI's Tarutaru can easily direct the Mothercrystal's forces in the air with less effort because they are magically oriented because of their years living in plains of Sarutabaruta, full of magic from the Horutoto towers. The strongest mages are Tarutaru, because of this affiliation.
In the Nogemi's case, it might make it more fascinating to explain why they are less capable. Different Vocal chords? Simply lived in lands devoid of mist so they can't cast spells so well?
In my opinion, attraction to different races comes with backstory and appearance.

I don't think we ever agreed that Mist is the source of power in this world.
I hate that explanation, personally.
Snood - August 21, 2008 04:21 PM (GMT)
Then what is the power source? Mana?
cielo - August 21, 2008 06:42 PM (GMT)
We haven't agreed upon that, but the 'manasphere' thing is what I abide by for the most part.

Yeah. Thats another thing that needs to be worked with here...
Lore. Its kinda...undeveloped. Since we never really based this on any Final Fantasy and mixed it all up, we never really know what the power source was. If it was like FFTA, FFTA2, FFXII and presumably FFT, it'd be Mist. In FFXI its the flow of energy coming from the mothercrystal, FF7 it'd be the wisdom of the ancients...and so on.

Except that Azure based it off of FFTA.
Which doesn't have any truly specified power source, which, for all intents and purposes, I'm fine with.
DarkValkyr - August 24, 2008 12:57 AM (GMT)
Well, that's because Ivalice in FFTA was purely underdeveloped. They developed it more with FFXII/RW/TA2. Unless of course someone would like to create their own set of how things work in Fantasia, I'd think its best to assume Ivalice's stance.
However, that's got nothing to do with this topic...
Regardless, Nogemi needs a lot of effort to actually be accepted. I definitely think a picture would do the job.
