Visiting Carlisle, Attn: Carlisle

[Esme Cullen]

Esme walked up to the hospital doors. She had became bored at home as waiting for her children to come home from school. Her work was not keeping her interest so she thought that she would visit Carlisle. Esme always felt better when she was with her husband.

She entered the hospital and walked to the elevators. When the doors opened, she stepped on and pushed the 8 button. Once the elevator reached the floor, she stepped out and headed to Carlisle's office. She didn't know if he was in his office but she thought that would be the best place to look first. If he was not there, she would have a nurse page him.

Esme approached Carlisle's door and smiled. Carlisle was in his office as she could smell his scent. She knocked on the door and waited for his answer.

Carlisle was reviewing his patients notes when there was a knock at the door. He had asked not to be disturbed unless it was absolutely necessary, but then he gently sniffed the air and recognised the sent immediately.

It was his darling Esme.

"Come in dear" he said

Carlisle put the notes on his desk, leaving them open at the page he had been reading.

He turned to the open door and took in the wonderful sight before him. He truly was a blessed man.

"So what do I owe this pleasure?" he asked gently.

Esme smiled when Carlisle opened the door.

She stepped into his office and wrapped her arms around him, inhaling his scent and sighing with contentment.

"I missed you and thought I would come and say hello." Esme said, pulling back from their embrace and looking up at her husband. "It gets lonely in our big house without my family there."

Carlisle wrapped his arms around Esme and deepened the embrace.

"It's odd isn't it, sometimes when the house is busy and noisy we crave peace and quiet, but when we get it - it just seems so empty and big"

Carlisle kissed the top of Esme's head.

"I have an operation to perform in around an hour, but I think i've prepared enough. How do you fancy a walk around the hospital gardens. I'll just need to let Nurse Gladys know to page me if I am needed, then i'm all yours for a while"

Esme relaxed within Carlisle's embrace. She wished she could stay in his arms forever.

When Carlisle suggested a walk around the hospital gardens, Esme smiled.

"I would go anywhere with you." Esme looked up at her husband and smiled. "The garden's looked so beautiful from a distance. I would love to see them up close."

Carlisle took Esme's hand in his and motioned for her to follow him.

"The gardens really are quite something to look at. There are a large number of patients here that will never be well enough to get out, so the hospital put a lot of effort into the gardens."

Carlisle squeezed Esme's hand gently. He loved his job as a doctor greatly, but he sometimes struggled to accept that he couldn't accept everyone.

As they entered the gardens he paused to sniff the air. Blocking out the smell of the humans nearby, the pungent aroma of the flowers was quite something.

"There's a particular set of flowers that I think you would really love, the colours are simply stunning" he said, whilst leading the way over to them.

Esme walked with Carlisle towards the gardens.

Esme was also so proud of her husband. Despite the fact that he was a vampire, he had the strength and the ability to tend to the sickest and weakest of humans and make them better. Esme knew that it was tough on Carlisle when he lost some patients, but it definately was not for his lack of trying.

Esme gave Carlisle's hand a squeeze. She could not imagine her life without her husband. She had never been happier than she was now. She had a husband and wonderful children.

As they approached the gardens, Esme got excited. She wanted to start a garden around their house but she was not sure of the flowers she wanted or how she would arrange them. Looking over the flowerbeds, Esme's mind was swirling with possibilities.

"Carlisle, they are so beautiful!" Esme said.

Carlisle smiled warmly at Esme as she took in the beautiful flowers.

"Perhaps you should plant some flowers in our garden at home" he suggested.

Carlisle was sure that Esme would do a wonderful job of planting flowers in their garden, her interior design skills would easily transfer to the outside.

Carlisle discreetly looked at his watch and noticed the time.

"I'll have to go back in shrortly. I have an operation to perform, but after that I am coming home. Would you like to do something this evening?" he asked.

Esme smiled at Carlisle's suggestion of starting her own garden at home. Her mind buzzed with the possibilities.

"I think I will. I think a garden would look terrific at the front of the house! I will go to the garden centre today." Esme said. Esme was excited and when she took on new projects, she did not stop until the job was done. This would not be any different.

Esme turned to Carlisle and wrapped her arms around him after he announced he had to get back to patients.

"Of course dear. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to walk with me. I would love to do something this evening. What do you have in mind?"

Carlisle sunk happily into Esme's embrace and thought for a moment.

"I really don't mind. We could go to the theatre or the movies and have a quick hunt on the way back?! he suggested.

He didn't really mind what they did as long as they were together.
