He watched the students idly file by on their way out from dinner, their stomachs full and their voices soft and murmuring, their eyes - brown, blue, hazel, green - blinking slowly and sleepily. The dinner for the night had just ended - one of the first of hundreds of dinners that the students would no doubt be enjoying over the year. He knew that at this point, the house elves would have finished moving everyones' boxes and trunks and suitcases upstairs into their dorms and cleaning away the last of what was left over from the feast. Tomorrow, the repetitive routine of classes would begin, and dull, old, boring school work would begin once more. His last year of dull, old, boring school work. And even then, he was already planning to keep things lively around here - when he had the power to do so, why wouldn't he?

Jonathan Van Dawson's hands were deposited in the pockets of his charcoal gray dress pants, the edges of his dress uniform smoothed back to either side by the position of his arms. He leaned idly against the wall alongside the great doors that led into the Great Hall, whose ceiling was dutifully displaying the colorless storm clouds that shifted lazily across the sky, blocking the view of the moon and stars and turning the sky into one, dark, roiling mass. He blinked slowly, his blue eyes taking in those faces that were unfamiliar, and those that weren't. Slytherin had gotten a good-sized group of First Years this term, a thought which caused a slow, malicious smile to turn the corners of his lips. Wonderful. More little ones to worship him.

There was a Hufflepuff girl that had fallen for him last year - and there was her boyfriend, who had desperately tried to hex him and was rewarded with only a very nasty cut along the side of his cheek. There was the Second Year Gryffindor boy that had nearly jumped into the Lake with the Giant Squid when he saw him coming last year. There was the Sixth Year Ravenclaw girl who had tried to outsmart him last year and catch him at his nightly activities. She only ended up being the scapegoat. Then, a little Slytherin First Year scuttled by him, turning to look at him with wide green eyes, her blonde hair swooshing along at her shoulders. She knew already just who he was - and her gaze was fascinated. Amazed, even. He couldn't help but smirk.

There were many recognizable faces, even though the stream of students had slowed to a trickle. A few of the sconces in the Great Hall had been extinguished, a few in the Entrance Hall growing dimmer. The castle was closing up for the night, the teachers and students finishing their preparations for the day to come. Even though a new body passed through the doors of the Great Hall at a rate of one every five to seven minutes, John didn't move. He just ran a hand through his hair, and stayed where he was. He wasn't sure what he was waiting for, or why he stayed. But he did.

Jenyse had woken up earlier that morning, she knew that today was going to be a big day. She was going to Hogwarts, and she was excited. She had already been sorted a while ago, like six long years ago. Along with many people, she packed herself the night before and was ready when that day came. Today wasn't just like every other day, because of the fact Jen was a 6th year, and this was the beginning of the year. This year was going to be filled with so many opportunities for Jenyse and she knew it.

Slowly grabbing everything, making sure she wasn't in a hurry Jenyse looked over her list again and again. She didn't want to forget anything, because she was probably going to get it in the middle of dinner, and everyone would be looking at her. She hated when she got mail during dinner, she never accepted it after everyone laughed at her for receiving a most crucial book her first year. She just let it get sent to her room. Jenyse loved getting mail, just not mail that hurt her feeling's or made her get made fun of from her peers.

Jenyse grabbed all 9 of her suitcases, and started for the train station. It was a very long ride to Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. When she got there she to assigned to a room, and had finally time to relax, but only for a minute. She had to go to dinner. Walking to dinner she saw all her old classmates, some she didn't even realize. They must have been first years, or repeaters of the years. Jenyse didn't make no attempt to socialize much at dinner or while walking to dinner.

Finally Jenyse had to make her way after dinner to the Great Hall. She had to be witness to the welcome back and sorting of all the first years. Jen was supposed to be glad when her house got new members, but sometimes they didn't deserve to be in the slytherin house. That was just her honest opinion though, she never meant to be harsh, or did she? Jenyse was always mean to first yeas, because that was just what did since her third year. She knew that her second year, would be too close to talk about them. Slowly moving her head from side to side she spotted Johnathan. She started walking towards him, though he probably didn't see her. She usually stood behind him while they were watching the Sorting Hat do it's job. Finally reaching him, she spoke. "Hey loser."
