Who is the main character of City Of Dreams, and what will he do?

You play as a guy named Hank, sent by a private military to investigate the appearance of armed forces on an island, which we haven't named, as of yet. The island, in the game's timeline, is very new, and it's of particular interest because of how quickly lush, tropical rainforests and woodland have grown so quickly. Hank sneaks in through a gap in their security, and when he gets through, he explores the island to uncover all he can. The game can work regardless of whether it's possible to engage the enemy, it's heavily reliant on story. I won't give you any more, but it has something to do with genetic engineering. The RPG is going to be a modern story oriented one in the near future. You can make use of objects you find on the ground and use them to attack enemies, which are either mercenaries or hostile animals. Guns will be avaliable, so long as you don't die trying to get one.

What theme music will we expect to see in the game?

Ambient midi to keep it simple. In the jungle areas, you will hear theme music from Jurassic Park 2. In the game's title, city like areas and cutscenes, you will hear the 'Visitor Center' variant of it. Those are the only ones we're sure of.


Will this be on the wiki?

It already is. Just type the name in and you'll find it. As of writing, it'll be a bit sparse and won't tell you much.


What have you used to make the game?

RPG Maker XP, Irfanview, Paint.net, Paint, and Charas (An RPG Maker character constructor).


What genre is the game, and what will the gameplay be like?

It will be an action adventure RPG if i can figure out how to use weapons. If i can't, it'll be an adventure RPG focused on story, kinda like a book, but more interactive. Should be interesting, either way. If i can work the weapons, it might be a bit sticky to shoot, but you'll have no trouble with blunt objects.


How will the game's cutscenes be made?

I'll use the Sims 2 to make basic representations of characters, then i'll put them into position and chroma-key out the environment, and i'll replace it with stuff that will fit. When everything is ready, i'll use film grain and advanced gradienting similar to the game logo, to add the correct atmosphere.


What was your inspiration?

I was inspired mainly by Yahtzee's 1213, and you'll see his influence when you reach the research center/hospital. I was also inspired by Crysis and Just Cause for the jungle region, which will play a major part in the story. The city to the east is based on my impressions from screenshots of Test Drive Unlimited, specifically, ones of slightly run down suburbs and areas of tropical flora. There's a northern mountainous region which is based from mountain rages in the Far East.


How long will it take for you to make this RPG?

At a guess? I'll probably give up on working out how to use ABS, so at that point i'll end up concentrating on the story, so, maybe half a year, but i doubt we'll take that long.


Will we have to pay for it?

No, it's freeware, like all of my games.

if you're a newbie to the RPG maker series, try Rpg maker VX, it is so much more simpler and has more options, yet in my opinion doesn't look as good, thats also true for the battle system.
