~Chapter 1: London, England in the countryside (5 days earlier) Christmas Eve ~I was walking through the ankle deep snow with my family to my grandparent’s house. I was bundled up tight in my black pea-coat but underneath was my new red Calvin Klein turtle neck sweater with a black mini skirt and black Gucci high heeled boots. If my family didn’t know I was famous, I might have a problem explaining this almost $1,500 outfit, but they all knew so I didn’t have to worry like I do at work back home.
“I am so glad we can all be together again for this Christmas unlike last year when we had to spend it in Italy for your last movie premiere.” Mom said wrapping her arms around my shoulder as we trudged up the drive.
“Mom, you weren’t complaining last year when we were in Venice.” I said.
“Yes, mom and let me quote you here, ‘Oh this is so much better that snowy England. Thank you Kathleen for brining us here for Christmas.’ End quote.” Chris said sticking up for me, while he was walking with his arms wrapped tightly around his wife’s shoulders.
“Thanks Chris.” I said and my mom just rolled her eyes.
“It was nice then, but now we get to spend Christmas again with our whole family, not just the 7 of us.” Mom said and we all just rolled our eyes as we reached the door and knocked on the door. Soon Grandma Jackie opened it and gave a big scream.
“Oh! It is so good to see al of you! You all have grown up so much!” She said enveloping me and my brother and sisters and sister-in-law in a huge hug and then hugging my mom and dad separately, “Please come in from the cold and take your bags upstairs.” Grandma said and we all came inside and took our coats off and took our stuff upstairs. I was sharing a room with Amber and Rose, while Chris and Julie had a room to themselves and mom and dad had a room to themselves.
After I had set my stuff upstairs and I decided to go down stairs and put my presents under the tree for everyone. As I was walking downstairs I realized a lot of people walking inside and I could hear people talking in the family room. I saw my mother come around the corner and I called her.
“Pssst! Mom!” I whispered and she turned and looked up at me on the stairs.
“What is it?” She asked.
“What’s going on?” I asked trying to balance all the gifts in my arms.
“Your Grandparents are having their annual Christmas Eve party, remember?” Mom said and I then remembered. I had forgotten about the party. I then quickly went into the living room and put the presents under the tree and then was about to go into the family room to join the party when my mom stopped me.
“You will never guess who is here.” My mom said excitedly and I rolled my eyes. Here we go again, lets play mother hooks up daughter dating game.
“Who mom?” I asked and she gave a small giggle.
“An old friend of yours, Orlando Bloom.” My mom said excitedly. I was in shock, he was an old friend of mine? I don’t remember that, if it is the same Orlando I am thinking of, then I know for a fact he is not an old friend of mine.
“What? No, the same Orlando who was in LOTR Orlando? He wasn’t an old friend of mine.” I said shocked.
“Yes, the same one was. He use to live next door to us when we lived here. When you were 3 before we moved he was 7 and him and his sister use to play with you and Chris. Remember when you 4 played magical worlds together, you were the youngest princess and Orlando had to save you when you were in trouble and Samantha was the older princess and Chris had to save her.” My mom said with that memory glint in her eyes and a little smile on her face.
“Uh, no I don’t.” I said and my mom giggled.
“You 4 were so adorable. Sonia and I always thought you and Orlando would get married when you were older.” Mom said. I remembered that her and Sonia were good friends and dad was best friends with Colin, Orlando’s biological dad not his dad his mom was married to.
“Ok, mom that was a cute story but I really don’t remember any of that.” I said beginning to walk in the other direction but she grabbed me.
“Oh no, you don’t go and talk to him he is over there by the bay window. I told him you were here and he wanted to see you, now go in there.” My mom said and she pushed me into the family room.
God, I hate it when my mother does this and tries to hook me up with men, but this time. I think she might have had good taste. Other times she didn’t have good taste they were always the nerds or the men who were already engaged and wanted to get a last ride with one hot babe, but this time she picked a good one. I will admit, Orlando is a very handsome man, with his dark brown curly locks, and dark brown eyes that look like chocolate and his tan skin that looks almost golden and his bright smile that could make any girl weak in the knees. Ah, I need to stop this! I need some chocolate now that I was talking about that.
I quickly took a turn to the food table and grabbed some little Christmas tree shaped chocolates my grandmother made and then went over to meet Orlando. He was standing there with some other dark brown haired girl, who I could automatically tell was Samantha and they were both talking to Chris and Julie. I quickly stopped and looked in the wall mirror to make sure my dark brown hair was still in curls, it tends to after I curl it die out after a while but it was still curly, good. I then kept walking over to the group and my brother saw me coming over and he spoke up.
“Oh, here she is! Kathleen, come here and meet Orlando, since you probably don’t really remember him.” Chris said and as I walked over Orlando turned around to look at me and he smiled when he saw me.
“Kathleen! It’s good to see you.” He said shaking my hand and then kissing me on the cheek. Whoa, that was s surprise, but a nice surprise at that. Then he looked at me confused, “I thought you were a blonde?” He asked.
“Oh, ummmm, my agent thought at first after everyone assumed I was blonde after wearing a wig in my first movie that I stayed blonde for a while, so I always wore that wig but this is my naturally hair color and I am expecting to get a new movie soon, so I am going to be my natural self from now on.” I said rambling and Orlando laughed.
“I thought you were a brunette originally when we were younger, so I thought there was something funny about you being a blonde.” He said and I gave small laugh.
“Yeah, I really didn’t like being a blonde either.” I said and I felt like that maybe was an insult.
“I can’t believe you two haven’t met since you both are Hollywood actors.” Chris said.
“Well, that’s a misconception that being in Hollywood means you know everyone in Hollywood. I am glad I got to meet you again Kathleen.” Orlando said.
“Please call me Kat.” I said.
“So, Kat, what have you been up to this past year and the past 21 years?” Orlando asked and we got to talking about our lives and everything else. I told him about me lately writing for a magazine and how I am going to get back to work. I told him about living in NYC, going to school and living a normal life up until I got the movie role and I had to go through College on movie sets for the next years after that. He told me about his life, school, and getting in his breakthrough film. We both it turned out knew Elijah and Dom, who were two of my best friends in Hollywood. After about an hour and half of talking and laughing I was beginning to feel maybe I should go on a date with him and maybe my mother picked a good one when his cell phone rang.
“Hold on one sec.” He said as he pulled out his phone, “Hello? Hey love, how are you? Stacy now stop, I am visiting family. I am sorry I can’t be there with your family for Christmas but I am visiting my family whom I haven’t seen in a while and I have spent more time with you. Look, I’m sorry I got mad, I will see you when I get back. I love you too, bye.” He said and I felt my heart sink ‘I love you too’, damn it he has a girlfriend! Why didn’t I remember that when we did an article on them recently. How we were betting they would break-up in 2 weeks after their 1 year dating spree.
“I’m sorry, that was my girlfriend. She lives in LA and was wondering why I wasn’t in LA with her for Christmas. God, she doesn’t understand the importance of family with me.” Orlando said and I nodded my head as I took big swig of the wine I was drinking.
“Yeah, a lot of people didn’t understand that with me either. My family is my number one importance with me too.” I said once I finished drinking my drink.
“Yeah, I feel the same way too. I will talk to you later and Happy Christmas if I don’t get to see you later.” He said as he kissed my cheek and went off. I grabbed the bottle of wine next to me and poured another glass and drank the whole glass in one minute. I hate it when I fall for guys who are taken. I quickly pulled out my phone and dialed my best friend Elizabeth aka Andy’s phone, she has been my childhood friend since I was 5 and we went through kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school together.
“H-Hello?” Andy said as she answered her phone, she sounded a little tipsy.
“Hey Andy, I need some girl talk with you. Are you drinking?” I asked.
“It’s Christmas, I’m allowed to drink even if it is only 2 o’clock here when it is what 8 o’clock there.” Andy said and I smiled.
“You are crazy.” I said walking over to the front hall and sitting on the steps.
“So, what is it you needed to talk about?” Andy said and I told her about Orlando and how I was hooked up with him by mother but I began to fall for him and like him a lot until I found out he had a damn girlfriend, “Wow, you actually met and sort-of grew up with Orlando Bloom? Sweet, but bad that he has a girlfriend but polls and pictures show that they may be close to breaking up. I mean you said it yourself that they were sounding on the rocks over the phone.” Andy said.
“Yeah, I guess your right I can hope.” I said and then my mom called me.
“Kathleen! We are all going to sing Christmas Carols! Come on and do you solo singing of Silent Night!” Mom called.
“I’m coming!” I called back, “Look, I got to go. Merry Christmas Andy, I will talk to you tomorrow.” I said.
“Bye Kit-Kat bar and Merry Christmas to you too.” Andy said and I hung up and went into the Family room and everyone was gathered around the piano including Orlando.
We sang some carols and then it was my turn to sing my solo that I sang every year, Silent Night. As I sang the song I noticed Orlando’s jaw was slightly dropped the whole time and he kept watching me closely. Once I finished everyone clapped.
“She has the most beautiful voice.” Most of my family’s friends said and then Orlando came over to me.
“That was the most beautiful singing voice I have ever heard. You sang beautifully, like an angel.” Orlando said and I smiled.
“Thank you.” I said and soon the party was over and I went upstairs to change for bed and once Rose and Amber were asleep, mom crept into my room.
“Kathleen? You awake?” Mom asked.
“I am now.” I whispered.
“Here, I wanted to give this to you early. Something to let you remember when you were a teenager.” She said and I opened the wrapped gift to find the dark blue leather bound book with a silver magnet lock, it was my diary.
“Aww, thanks mom.” I whispered as I hugged her.
“Your welcome. Merry Christmas.” Mom said and she kissed me.
“Merry Christmas.” I said and that’s how I got my diary and how I realized I needed to change my life with men and my career. I decided that night to come out with my natural hair color as an actress and getting a guy of my dreams this year if it was the last thing I do, whether it was Orlando or Hugh, I was going to get the man of my dreams.
