And staying on guard
Every lesson forms a new scar
They never thought you'd make it this far Nobody should ever have to be up this early. Six-thirty was erring on the side of absolutely evil and yet, there was Serena in the back of the black-tinted town car, trying her very best to stay awake. She’d be chosen to appear on some popular morning radio talk show to discuss that evening’s show. It was only natural since she was the one who’d be in the main event so… why would they really want to be talking to anybody else besides maybe JC? Seriously, nobody else would be worthy. Her eyes were just beginning to close when the driver jerked to a stop and she had to throw her hands out to keep from hitting her head.
Muttering a few choice obscenities under her breath, Serena grabbed her bag and glared daggers at the driver when he opened the door and she swung her legs out, placing sandaled feet on the pavement. Serena could hear him apologizing but it sounded like nothing but ’blah blah blah’ to her. His apologies meant less than nothing. Serena took a sip from her iced coffee and he was trailing her, still trying to talk and she finally had enough, spinning around on her feel and putting up her free hand.Serena: Oh my God, do you ever shut up? I get it, you’re sorry. I’m not forgiving you but for fuck’s sake just stop talking and make sure you’re back here in about an hour to pick me up.She didn’t give him any more of a chance to talk and smiled at the man who held the door to the building open for her. The air conditioning sent chills up and down her arms and legs and she was quickly escorted to the right studio. She’d be having a quick sit down with Robin, Terry and Bob—one of Brisbane’s top morning shows. Serena quickly noted that everybody around her looked much, much more chipper than she was and instantly hated them for it. An intern opened the door and the blonde walked in and was almost instantly handed a headset. In the room she could see three people, a relatively attractive redhead, a younger guy and an older guy (Serena wasn’t good at descriptions). They waved and looked relatively excited to see her (which was strange in and of itself) and she sat down after offering them a feeble wave in return.Terry: Good morning Brisbane and we hope the drive in finds you well. As we’ve been advertising for a few days now, we have a very special guest in the studio this morning!Bob: A hot guest!Robin: A guest who could kick both of your asses in a minute if she wanted to, let’s be real.Terry: The UWF comes to the Acer Arena on Wednesday and we have one of their top, if not thee top superstar of the company, the always lovely Serena!Serena: Good morning everybody! Thank you so much for having me though I gotta say, this is not the ideal hour for me. I don’t know how you all can handle it every morning.Robin: Lots and lots of coffee.Serena: Yeah, that would make sense. You sound way too chipper.They all laughed, but Serena wasn’t joking.Bob: So, our sources say that you just came to the company after a year or so long hiatus, and you came back with a bang. At this past pay-per-view you debuted a tag team and beat down the competition. So they’re going for the tag team championship at ShockWave Thirteen and you’re going for the Hardcore Championship—Serena: I think you’re getting a little bit head of yourself there, Bob. That’s still a few weeks away. How about we talk about my match at Adrenaline, okay?Terry: You’re main eventing in your first match back.Serena: I am.Robin: And you’re teaming up with somebody you’ve never teamed with. Heck, you’ve never been in the same ring as her, have you?Serena: You know, I think you’re right. But Wednesday night will see me and the amazing and incomparable JC Diamond teaming up in her last match on Adrenaline. She’s always been such an inspiration and this is an amazing honor and opportunity. It’s just, I don’t think I can say enough good words about her.Bob: That’s pretty rare in wrestling nowadays, isn’t it? The notion of respect between the rookies and more veteran superstars?Serena: I really hope you’re not calling me a rookie.Bob: No! No, no, no, no. Never, I wouldn’t say that. I guess I meant, not rookie but younger superstar. One who hasn’t been with the company for as long a time as somebody like JC Diamond or Gary Reece, for instance.Serena rested her chin on her palm and could practically hear the beeping sound of him backing up.Serena: No, I haven’t been there as long as some people who have been with the company since its inception, but I like to think that I’ve gotten to the point where I would demand a certain level of respect among some of the newer signees. Unfortunately that’s not the case and it’s almost been like a thorn in my side.Terry: Who?Opening her mouth, she contemplated talking about the stunner in question, but ultimately decided against it. There was no point in giving her the satisfaction she so obviously craved.Serena: I’d rather focus this interview on my match at Adrenaline, instead of talking about any of that kinda stuff. I’ll just say, yes, there are problems and they will be dealt with in due time. For right now, my problem lies with two superstars who felt it fitting to attack members of my team after their match last week. And it makes it kinda complicated since I basically trained their quote-unquote leader and he was like my protégé, you could say. It’s nothing personal…Robin: Oh c’mon, it’s totally personal.Serena: No, I swear it’s really not. Gabe is like a brother to me. He wasn’t responsible for anything his two little Italian protégés did and I’m not going to fault him for their decisions. However, Marcus Moretti and Roberto Russo don’t realize just what a mistake they made when they decided to interfere last week. That was not their fight, but it sure as s*** is now. They’re going to get destroyed when they get into the ring with me and JC and when they make it to ShockWave, if they make it to ShockWave, Adrian and Street will just grab those pieces, destroy them even more and win the tag team championships.The mood in the room was slightly less jovial and Serena realized she was the cause of it. She took another sip of coffee and waved her hand at the three deejays.Serena: I’m sorry; I get worked up when I’m talking about my opponents. I mean, I haven’t done this in over a year and it’s exciting and I’m hyped up. Like I am totally pumped for this. Just to get into the ring and hit them and punch them and slam either one of them to the mat and feel the cheering from the crowd and the adrenaline rush… it’s almost too much to explain if you’re not in the business but trust me, it’s really nothing less than euphoric.Terry: What a wonderful segue!Serena: What do you mean?Bob: Well Robin has been keeping up with what’s been going on with you and she’s curious about something.Serena: It takes a long time to train and become a wrestler. It takes like, years and years and so much dedication.Terry: Yeah no, that’s not exactly what she wants to know. Robin, c’mon now, don’t be shy.The redhead looked a little bit apprehensive when Serena’s attention turned to her.Robin: So, you said at Unbreakable that Eddie Kassidy appointed you new leader of the group… How close of a relationship do you have with him? I mean, I know you two have hated each other for a long time now and all of a sudden you’re buddy-buddy and when I see you two it looks like there’s chemistry…Serena: It does?That was news to her, to be quite honest. She knew they had a business relationship and hadn’t thought about moving it to any kind of next level. Firstly, she had no idea if he was even single and then… Serena didn’t know if he was either. As weird as that sounded, she still heard the occasional sound byte from Bryan, got some letters from him every now and then (actual, honest to God letters and not e-mails) and she didn’t know what their status was at that point.Serena: Robin Sweetie, as far as I know it’s strictly a business arrangement. That’s not to say that things may not change in the future [she added with a mischievous smile] But no, seriously, I’m totally focused on getting the GM-Pire to the top right now. I don’t really have time or energy to waste on something frivolous like that. Other people can spend all of their time canoodling and going out and making out but not me. I have a freakin’ takeover to keep on track, and quite frankly that’s more than fine with me.Terry: And… unfortunately that’s all the time we have left with the lovely Serena, but don’t forget to catch her Wednesday night on Adrenaline with all the rest of your favorite UWF superstars and stunners.Before he even had a chance to finish his sign-off, Serena had grabbed her stuff and was out of the studio. Anything on screen, she had no problem with. She could play a character and make up some persona… but when it came to anything other than that… no. She didn’t want to talk about her personal life—she absolutely loathed talking about her personal life anymore. She’d been through too much this past year to even allow people to scratch the surface. Hurrying down the stairs, Serena flung her coffee into the nearest trash can, once again thanked the man holding the door open for her and was actually grateful to see the driver leaning against the car. She waved him away as he went to open the door.Serena: Just start the God damned car. I want to get the hell back to my hotel and if you say one thing to me you will never work in this country again. I’ll personally make sure of it.Her threat didn’t fall on deaf ears and her driver did just that. And Serena breathed a sigh of relief.END
