The Boston Bruins are proud to announce that centre Marc Savard will serve as the teams captain in the upcoming 2009-2010 season. Savard, 31, has been a member of the Boston Bruins since 2006 when he signed as a free agent following a breakout season in Atlanta where he notched a career high 97 points. Though Savard has failed to best those numbers since coming to Bean Town, he thinks that this year could very well be the one.
"We have a great group of guys here and I'm excited for the season to get going. We've made some really interesting changes over the summer and I think that they'll be for the best in the long run. I look forward to the added responsibility and feel that I can get back to playing the level of hockey I did during my last year in Atlanta and my first year in Boston."
The Bruins also announced that 26 year old Blue liner Denis Wideman and newcomer Jay Bouwmeester will don the 'A' for the Bears.
When asked about the letter on his chest Bouwmeester had this to say, "To be entrusted with a leadership role when I'm this new to the team is a real honor. I look forward to this new situation and the prospect of playing in my first playoff game is extremely exciting. The D-corps here is terrific and I think we're going to be able to do a lot to contribute both defensively and offensively."
