Hi,
Tomb Raider III Talks Begin
Jolie could return once more.
Paramount Pictures and SCi, the parent company of the game publisher that created the Tomb Raider games, are in talks for a third movie based on the adventures of Lara Croft, archaeologist extraordinaire. According to a report at The Business Online, negotiations for the next sequel have begun, and Angelina Jolie might be interested in playing Lara once more.
Jolie hinted at disappointment during the planning stages of Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life about the quality of the previous film, and neither of the two earned much praise from critics; nevertheless, the first two instalments have drummed up over $450 million at the box office. With the video game series still going strong, it's no wonder SCi would like to cash in another movie deal.
Eidos, the publisher of the Tomb Raider game series, was bought out this year by British SCi. It is thought that Eidos received both one-off payments and a percentage of ticket sales, as well as merchandising revenues. A similar deal for Tomb Raider 3 could be quite lucrative.
In the meantime, SCi is planning the release of Tomb Raider: Legend this spring for the Playstation 2 and Xbox 360, and Angelina Jolie is considering a role as a Russian double agent in Casino Royale, the next James Bond flick. Incidentally, the new 007, Daniel Craig, co-starred with Jolie in her first Lara Croft outing four years ago.
