"Come on Milly, faster," she murmured to the mare as they pounded down the dirt track. It was the one thing she would thank Arian for if she ever did see him again was for this mare. The beautiful blood bay horse had kept her alive time and time again with her speed, mostly as they outran bandits. It was very rare she fought outright, and when she did it was only when she knew she could hide the bodies successfully and have no one know. Of course she shouldn't have to worry about bandits, but they were becoming more and more of a problem, probably because the King was using his resources elsewhere.
This particular jaunt through the woods was simply for fun, that and idle catching up. Rita and Wendel, her two Beast Kin employees/friends were a couple days ride ahead. She'd stayed behind to close a deal in a local village and she was taking her time getting back to them, seeing the sights. She hadn't been in this area for a little over a year now, and she was happy to see that it really hadn't changed, with the exception of a few trees cut down for the expansion of the town. That was inevitable, but the townsfolk were good about it.
They took care of the land, knowing it would do the same for them in turn.
Smiling a bit, the bit jangling as the mare galloped around the track, she outright laughed, her hair streaming behind her. Even now nothing could beat the joy of a gallop down a clear, open track. Her face clouded slightly though, mostly because she figured that with her near constant yearning to try to shift again and fly that flying might just be better. Yet considering she hadn't shifted again since the first time (which she didn't remember) she had no idea. But gods... she wanted to.
Pulling Milly back a bit so she slowed, Nyx patted the mare's neck in appreciation for the speed, and fed her a dried date from her pocket. Really... she needed to figure out something soon because the urge was becoming stronger by the day.
A moment later though she stopped Milly abruptly, and the mare obediently did so on a dime. Eyes wide and nostrils flaring, her eyes searched the surrounding forest. She only got this feeling when something was injured, and injured badly. But she was wary too. Last time she'd tried to follow this feeling it had been a deer about to receive a death blow from a massive grizzly bear. So instead of playing that risky little game again, she called out. "Hello? Anyone there?"

No response... but she should have known better. What kind of injured creature would let another know they were injured? If it was an animal it wouldn't respond for sure anyway and... yeah. She was going to have to follow that sense. She would have to because she was compelled to. It was all part and parcel of being purple, even in part. Her father had explained once what it felt like, but... well maybe that was part of why he'd killed himself. She didn't like to think of how she'd found him, but she did sometimes anyway because she wanted to understand it. Her parents had been mates, true ones, like the swans she saw sometimes on the lake near one of their camping spots she supposed they had been 'until death do us part' mates as well.
Sighing, she kept all senses open though. She needed a clue as to where to go.
Seeing the shiver of the trees... when there was no wind, she blinked. What could THAT be? She ran through everything in her head as she turned Milly into the woods. The mare was brave, but she reacted to the scent of the big predators, so she was relieved when the mare didn't freak out. Meant that she was not on a bear's dinner menu.. most likely. Having something to concentrate on banished her sadness with focus, and she urged Milly into a trot, following that 'hotter colder hotter' sense in her mind. As she rode though she started to notice that the trees were actually moving. Like... not their roots, but the branches were gently moving and twisting in one direction. Almost like they were trying... Wait, why would the trees be doing that? That meant magic. Which meant one of two things. Only a mage or a dragon would make trees move like that, but the mages twisted the magic to their will... so the trees would be angry.
So a dragon was hurt.
It seemed that suddenly the forest realized she was there and where she was headed, and she knew it was in the right direction because vines and brambles crept across the path, blocking it, and she swore. Oh so they were playing that game were they? Either the magic was uncontrolled or the dragon didn't want her following. Or... maybe even the dragon was carrying.. what? A dying deer to eat? She shook her head with an annoyed hiss.
"I'm trying to make sure everyone's alright, that's all!" Milly, as if on cue, stomped her big hoof to emphasize the point as Nyx growled and turned the mare slightly to try and go around the growth. Too bad plants couldn't understand speech. At least she didn't think they could. "I hate plants," she muttered in the draconic tongue, hissing in growing annoyance as some brush blocked her path again. Now she was getting angry, really angry, and moments later the sky darkened and it started to rain. "Great...," she muttered, more annoyed that her silk shirt was getting wet than she was at getting wet in the first place. She loved the rain, but not when it ruined her favorite shirt. "Whoever you are you owe me a shirt!" she shouted, more to vent her annoyance than expecting to be heard.

There! Her head shot around in the direction of the noise, but it was back a bit from the way she'd come and a huge wall of brambles was blocking her way. That was a sound of pain and more than that it was resignation. No way in HELL was she going to let whoever this was die. No one should die resigned. Now she was close enough to smell the blood too, and it was strong enough that she was worried, very much. She could stop the bleeding and maybe heal the edges but she was too young... Gods why couldn't her father be here?
Frowning she studied the wall of brambles. At least the sound meant this one had heard her. "Ok...," she spoke loudly, unsure of just how close the other dragon was, "Your plant friends are really pissing me off." They were too, and the drizzle of rain was turning into large drops and getting heavier by the minute. "I'm guessing you can't call them off. I'm a purple, kind of... I can help you."
Some dragons wouldn't even speak to her because she was a hybrid, and it always made her sad... but she hoped to be able to help this one at least. Even if they didn't speak to her... just helping would be enough. But how to get past the plants... Show them she could help? How? Her eyes lit up, and drawing out her knife she flicked a small cut in one of the brambles. Seeing it tremble, she placed her fingertips on the spot and concentrated. The cut in the plant healed, and the entire wall of greenery trembled and shook as if in momentary confusion before it started to move aside for her.
"Finally! More trouble than you're worth! Bloody shrubbery.." Dismounting from Milly's back she simply dropped the reins. The mare wouldn't wander far in any case. Sheathing her knife, she didn't even think to keep it out in case the injured one attacked. She was so concerned with helping them. The rain eased up a bit, and slowly stopped, only to start again when she saw the pale green scales under a tangle of slowly clearing vines ahead. "By the Gold!" Her voice was concerned and low as she ran the rest of the way. Yes, this was the one, her senses were telling her, and gently she laid a hand on the male's head. Now that she was close she could smell that he was male, and she could also tell he was about dead from blood loss. The green of him was much, much too pale. He was also small though, and she guessed he was around her age, give or take a century. Sleek too, but young, and she could see that one day he would fill out nicely.
But his breathing was fairly shallow too, and smiling (even though she was very worried) she gently stroked a hand across his head. "You can't sleep you know. Stay awake for me alright?" She saw the wound immediately, an almost severed wing, and she could even see tooth marks in the bone. Gods.. what had happened? "Talk to me, tell me what happened, mutter in draconic, tap out a rhythm with a claw... anything alright?" She couldn't lose him.
Eyes closed as she leaned over him and splayed a hand over as much of the wound as she could. In this.. she always gave it her all. It lacked finesse, and maybe even hurt like hell, but she basically used raw magic to kind of... 'cauterize' thew wound. It was all she really knew how to do other than heal minor scrapes, cuts and bruises. This was a big wound though... draining her, but she would.. NOT stop. getting weaker and weaker she eventually stopped when she slumped forward against the soft scales, and opening her eyes blearily she was surprised to see it even partially closed. That was new. Proud of herself she patted the male's shoulder. "Sorry it hurt... but you're a good boy... didn't scream... once," she murmured, slumping. "I need sleep now. Don't you eat my horse." Moments later she passed out, on her knees, and the only thing keeping her up was her forehead against his side.

This was the kind of sleep that she hated. Deep, exhausted, her brain was still active, which meant dreams, and her dreams were never good. Twisted, nightmarish, memories welled up, and she growled, but the sound was... tiny, like it came from a much younger person than the one against the green's side. Of waking up one morning, curled against her mother's cold side. Finding her father hanging from a tree near their campsite, pools of blood below him from where he'd slit his wrists...
She twisted, instinctively pressing more towards the warmth, trying to find comfort when facing death. Eventually the images faded, and she dropped into dreamless sleep, but now she was slick with sweat as she sort of.. tumbled to her side and rolled so she was curled along the curve of the male's body.
Eventually she started to wake, and that was when she felt the puff of warm air on the top of her head. Blinking, it woke her up a little faster, and Nyx blearily lifted her head from where it was resting on a taloned foot of the green to look at his face.
"Hi...," she said softly, "Im glad to see you're alright." Yawning, she slowly pushed herself up. "I'm Nyx by the way." Looking down, she wrinkled her nose at the smell. Now she smelled like sweat. Ew. And her shirt... Eyes narrowing, she looked back at the green again, noting his eyes and how their tone changed often. From deep pine green to the lighter color of tropical plants they were beautiful eyes.
"Beautiful eyes whoever you are. Oh, and you owe me a silk shirt ok?" She wasn't actually serious about that. She'd chosen to come after him, which meant in the end it wasn't his fault the plants had pissed her off. Still, she was curious to see if he'd believe that she was serious. Yawning again she stayed sitting, using the male as a back rest for a moment as she collected herself. Besides, he was comfortable and smelled really good, a little musky even, and her eyes flicked a bit, back and forth between blue and purple as she looked up at him.
Finally she pulled herself a way a bit, and went to lean against the inside of the wall of plants that had appeared at.. well she didn't know. Looking at him, eyes a bit brighter than they had been before, she shook her head slightly to clear the slight fog in her mind. "Now shift back if you can. I need to get a look at you, and it's a smaller wound in human form. I should be able to help it along a bit more." She bit her lip when she realized something, blushing a bit. "Right... no clothes. Well... that's alright. I'll keep my eyes on your face alright?"
Of course she'd seen a naked man before, but only once, and that was when a drunk human had gone streaking down the main street during a festival and she had been trading with a local innkeep at the time. Other than that... she was a virgin and had never even been in heat before. Hell, she didn't even know the latter existed.
Blushing a bit brighter because her mind chose that moment to chime in with wondering what he'd look like, especially naked, she kept her eyes up on his as her own started to pulse a bit with alternating, bright colors. Not that she noticed her eyes were giving away her agitation. "Come on then you. Off with the scaley hide and on with the pink, vulnerable skin."

Ah, he wasn't taking her seriously. That was good as she really hadn't meant it so. Eying him, she admitted that this was going to make her blush. It already was for that matter, and she hated being embarrassed. He did seem to like snorting though, because he did so again and turned away from her. She frowned. Had she said something wrong? Well other than proposing something that would be embarrassing for them both that was...
The groan though as he looked back at her... that made her laugh, a bit nervously, and she took a step forward towards him. "Come on then. I have to get back to my horse. She's not really afraid of dragons so she's a bit in danger from them."
But he started to change and she watched, utterly fascinated. She'd never seen another change, not even her parents. Hell, she hadn't even flown before. The way the green light flickered about and sparkled made her eyes shine, and there was a big pull from the other half of her soul to shift herself, but she resisted it, a bit of sweat breaking out on her brow at the struggle. She wanted to shift but she was too afraid. She still didn't remember any details about what had happened during her first Turn.. and that scared her. What if she lost it again? What if she attacked and ate a human this time instead of a mule?
The glow started to fade, and banishing the negative thought as the pull faded she saw him. He was tall and thin, but what muscle he did have was nicely toned. His messy hair made her want to fix it, and her eyes trailed down his back, over the now bleeding wound and further down before she could stop herself. She stared for a moment, and for some strange reason she was tempted to pinch his ass. Though she didn't get the chance because he ended up turning, and thankfully she noticed otherwise she would have been caught staring and that would have been mortifying. As it was her blush still got a little more intense, creeping down her neck and over the tops of her breasts.
Nyx DID feel a little better about blushing herself when she saw how red he was though.
“Thank you for what you did… I would have died if not for you… you don’t happen to have any pants I could borrow do you?”
She smiled a bit as she looked over his face. Yes, he definitely was a cutey. "Hey, no problem. I feel compelled to help, but I don't think I wouldn't have even without the purple's draw to do so." She considered the request for pants for a moment, and decided she was going to try and flirt. Or at least see if he was as red as he could be. "I do have some you could borrow actually, but I much prefer you without them." The young dragon stood and moved towards him with a bit of a smirk on her lips. Just because she was a virgin didn't mean she didn't flirt.
When she was close she looked up into his eyes, smiled, then placed a hand on his arm and gently turned him around. "Need to look at the wound remember?" her flippancy and chatter was both to stave off embarrassment, and because she figured if she talked a lot then fewer people would ask questions. Now, she did THAT because she hated talking about her past more than almost anything else. She had told no one, not even Arian.
Gently she reached out to touch the injured arm, avoiding the wound itself. "Alright, can you feel that?" she asked, trailing her fingertips down his bicep, testing for numbness. She hoped there wasn't any. That meant nerve damage and she was positive she wouldn't be able to help him with that. It would have to heal on it's own. That done she touched as close to the edge of the ragged wound as she could and let her power out. This would sting she knew, but would have been nothing on the pain he must have felt in dragon form when she'd stopped the bleeding. The bleeding here stopped, and the edges began to close a bit before her power kind of... cut out, and she stopped. Clucking in annoyance she said a prayer to her poor, poor shirt in her head before ripping it off, leaving her in a breast band only. Ripping a piece from the bottom she wiped away the blood that had trickled down his back before making a bandage out of the rest.
"Alright," she said when she had finished, "I've done what I can. Now if you don't have a purple back where you live you might have to stitch that wound. I can do this for you when we get back to Milly. Oh, and try not to shift for awhile alright? That will only aggravate the injury." She touched his uninjured shoulder with her hand and a shiver went through her at his warmth. She... well she'd been alone for a long time, and didn't even really hug anyone. Dragons needed to touch others, and she'd been denying herself that as well as her other form. "Think you can get your plant friends to move so we can leave? I'll escort you back to where you live. Milly can take two."

In that moment she giggled, because in that moment he could have been mistaken for a red, and that amused her greatly. He was actually more embarrassed than she was, which in her eyes was quite a feat. At least she could hide some of hers though. He didn't seem to be able to hide any. At all. She knew she wasn't good at healing, but she couldn't seem to control her power enough. It was like the mix of her blood made her ultimately weak in both. Though the raised eyebrow from him had one from her in return. "Now what's that about?" she asked with a smile. "Checking me out are you?" If he was it wouldn't exactly bother her. She was used to being looked at, though so far no one had really been allowed to touch. Well, not beyond a kiss or two anyway. He finally moved to ask the plants to move, and it didn't surprise her when they did, he WAS a green after all. One thing she was wishing at the moment though was that he would actually talk to her. He didn't really seem to say much, and while she didn't hate it exactly it was certainly strange, and maybe even a bit unnerving. She was used to lots of chatter. An archway formed, and she smiled a bit as she walked after him, a little red that she was walking around in just the breast band, pants and boots, but on the other hand she got a good, long look at his butt. Such a cute butt. She really did want to pinch it, and still didn't know why. Maybe it wasn't pinching, maybe it was cute enough she wanted to touch it? Blushing a little brighter, she looked away after a moment. Which was a good thing because he actually looked at her, and she did NOT want to be caught staring. That much embarrassment she wouldn't be able to hide. “My home is near Astenley, should not be far from here. I should think the Slayer is gone now… I have never looked into death’s eyes before…. it is not something I wish to repeat."Her face drained of blood and she wasn't actually thinking about his butt at the moment. "A Slayer... jesus...." She shivered, goosebumps rising along her arms and not that she noticed but the chill was getting to her too, her nipples peaking beneath the breast band. "I hope they are gone too." Striding past him she hurried back towards where she had left Milly, her walk hurried but hips still swaying. When she got close to where she had left the mare she raised her fingers to her mouth and let out a piercing whistle. She heard the hooves and the returning whinny, and she smiled a bit and glanced at the male over her shoulder. "What's your name? And be careful. I like you, but Milly might not."The mare was temperamental and very protective if the young dragon, sometimes to the point that she swore there must be something more in that tiny horse brain than she thought. Which was when Milly burst through the brush, the beautiful bay skidding to a stop and rolling her eyes to look at Eben with a snort that clearly said 'watch it Mr'. The big bay moved towards her, briefly nuzzled Nyx, then moved around her and glared at Eben.

"Milly....," she said warningly, and the mare looked at her in protest. Simply put the bay just usually didn't like males. "Settle, he's not a threat." The horse pinned back her ears, and looked as if she was going to disobey and bite, but a look from Nyx and she stopped. Rolling her eyes she backed away from the male and Nyx walked forward to dig through the saddlebags.
“My name is Eben… and your horse would like me fine if I decided to exert power to speak with her… unfortunately I need my energy to heal so speaking with Milly will have to wait for another time…”
She rolled her eyes as she continued to dig in the packs. "You shouldn't have to use power to get an animal to like you. That just seems like cheating to me."
“Do you happen to have those pants by any chance?”
Finding what she was looking for she tossed the bundle at Eben swiftly, and maybe a little bit too hard as well. "Here." It was a bundle. Pants, a fine linen shirt and a nice warm cloak. Even a pair of boots. She grabbed a shirt herself, slipping it on but not bothering to tie the v-neck, which meant it dipped down between her breasts. Looking at the mare, she rolled her eyes before turning and looking at the green.
She was starting to think this one was very shy, which wasn't necessarily bad but.. she still wished he would do more. He really was rather cute. Deciding to see just how much she could push him, she watched him as he got dressed. Tall yes, skinny yes, but he was still well-formed and she found her cheeks heating slightly, and she finally looked away. "You're cute you know," she blurted out, turning back to Milly and securing the packs again. "If you were a little more outgoing I am sure you'd have all the girls at your feet."
That was honestly what she thought too. Fiddling with the packs some more she waited for him to tell her he was done getting dressed. It was strange being around another dragon, and a bit stressful. She was constantly feeling a pull to shift, and it scared her. A pull to fly too, and though she wanted to do both she was deathly afraid to. She needed to get him back home, and then she needed to leave. Nyx was actually starting to feel a little warm too, and she pushed at the neck of the shirt, pushing it further open, and finally turned back to face Eben, impatient with waiting.
He... actually looked rather good in the clothes she'd given him. They fit well, and she stared a bit with heated eyes. "You look good," she said simply, raking her eyes along him brazenly.

He did not expect her to throw the clothing at him with such anger. He frowned as he caught it. Yeah she was a half breed, blood unstable the lot of them. And that horse was no better, he narrowed his eyes on the beast. Something pulled at his mind, animals just liked him, it was just how things were. This animal not liking made him think of the Beast Kin, they were animals but were not influenced by the power the greens had over the beasts of the earth. He shook he head slightly and turned around giving her a nice view of his backside as he pulled on the pants, then shirt and boots. A little big for him but he was not going to complain, least he was dressed which was better then being naked around a female.
"You're cute you know, If you were a little more outgoing I am sure you'd have all the girls at your feet."
He looked at her sharply, why on earth would he want girls at his feet? Frowning he shook his head. She probably assumed he was some kind of heart breaker or some such. He did not want woman around him all the time, when he found his mate he would be totally and utterly loyal to her just like his parents. They loved each other with a passion that unfortunately had only allowed them one son. Dragons were not a prolific race and young came along in spurts. He was his parent’s only child and would have remained that until his mother announced recently she was carrying again. His father had been ecstatic in truth he had been too, a little brother or sister to look after. He was really looking forward to it.
He ran his fingers through his mess of hair and then looked at her.
“I don’t want girls at my feet… why on earth would I?”
He was genuinely confused that she would think he would want girls pawing at his feet? He would find a mate who knew how to work a field and knew how to raise horses and was good with people. He was not going to go for some hussy of a dragon who didn’t care about people around her. He had seen way too many of them as he was growing up. Believing they could pick who they wanted to mate with, hell he had yet to mate once and it had never bothered him. Then this woman can along and made him feel like less then a man because he did not flirt and was not outgoing.
"You look good,"
He felt the air heat up and he gave her a smile.
“Thank you… we should get going… my mother will be beside herself… I hope you like roast deer, my father should have been home from hunting by now….”
He cleared his throat and turned. She was giving him a look like she wanted to strip the clothing he just put on, back off! He reached out with his power deep into the ground and asked the forest if it would inform him of anyone else around them. He nodded slightly, no slayer and no golden woman. Looking back at Nyx he gave her smiled and started walking.
“Okay the forest is clear…”

“I don’t want girls at my feet… why on earth would I?”
She blinked at him, her head tilted. Now there was some emotion in his voice. It seemed he didn't like that idea, but she also hadn't meant it literally, and she thought maybe he had taken it that way. "I did not mean it literally Eben. Just that if you were a little bit more outgoing you'd have a lot of girls after you."
Honestly... she didn't know that she was offending him. She just said what was on her mind, almost all of the time, and sometimes it offended others. Thing was she never did it on purpose. Though if she knew what he was thinking at that time she would have been pissed and it probably would have been pouring rain. She wasn't a hussy. In fact she was a virgin, and these comments about her thinking the girls would be at his feet was her brain's oblique way of saying that if he talked a little more she herself would be.
Yet her simple comment brought a smile to his face, and it drew one from her as if by magic. He really had a very nice smile, and her eyes heated up a little more. Yes, he really did look good, and for a moment her brain conjured up the image of what it would be like to strip those clothes from him and- She shook her head, turning pink to the tips of her ears.
“Thank you… we should get going… my mother will be beside herself… I hope you like roast deer, my father should have been home from hunting by now….”
"I LOVE roast deer. I'm just.. not the best hunter," she said softly, "I don't use any weapon but a dagger and I don't hunt in dragon form. It must be nice to have a mother to worry about you.." She hoped he didn't ask the why of it.
He seemed to do... something, and when he said the forest was clear she believed him. He WAS a green. He gave her another one of those almost shy, but so sweet smiles and she again smiled back. Simply put she couldn't help it around him. Then he started to walk, and for a moment she watched him move, her lip pulled between her teeth, before remembering she was escorting him back. Shaking her head in amusement at herself, she swung up on Milly's back and sent the mare after him. Not like he'd got far, but she ended up beside him. Extending her hand, head tilted, she smiled down at him.
"Take my hand and I'll swing you up. No walking for you today. Don't need that injury getting worse."
